Environmental consequences

Would I be right in saying there are no longer any environmental consequences in the game? I've only played into the industrial age once (still finding my way), but despite mowing down acres of forest, chugging out coal smoke and nuclear reactors, there has been no global warming, no meltdowns, nothing.

Did I just get lucky, or has this feature been left out? If so, other than cost and resources, is there any point at all preserving forests or avoiding dirty fuels?

Edited for appaling spelling :)

Well, forests can often be worth preserving for building lumber mills, particularly for Hiawatha. I prefer to avoid chopping forests unless I have immediate need of those extra hammers early in the game, but YMMV.

But as far as environmental consequences? Nope. Nuke the entire planet into oblivion if you want.

I agree except keep the jungle and put a trading post in it. +2 science with University. I am always split on whether to cut down forests.

Forests i chop if they are on hills of course (unless Hiawatha), and not always, but sometimes if by rivers as i am making farms there.
I also chop all the forests outside my three ring if i don't plan to put cities there later.

It somewhat depends how many hills are around. It it's all flat lands, i keep them around for production, but if there are lots of hills, i generally chop them all for wonders, etc.

But that is from a tactical point of view. The question was about enviroment. There is no enviroment, just killing fields.

Burn it all to the ground!

Well, that is disappointing (like the neutered diplomacy and infuriating map scripts).

Oh well. :(

Thanks for the speedy replies.

Myself, I keep jungle (unless there's a resource) for the science post university.

Forest for me falls into:

Flat plains: Timber! (Farm)

Tundra: Always kept

Hill with fresh water: Timber! (Farm)

Hill next to Mountain(s) playing Inca: Timber! (Terrace Farm)

I generally place lumber mills on the rest.

Marsh though is something I always drain. Sometimes I drain that even before my culture expands onto the tile (to speed up acquiring the tile by culture)
