For those playing, should you stop trying to get more Era score once you have secured a golden age or should you keep going, I've been wondering what is the best way?

Depends what you want to do. If you want to go into a dark age, then you want to stop. If you want to chain golden ages then keep trucking. The threshold for the next golden age keeps getting higher the more successive ones you have.

Best would be to try to delay them until the start of the next age. The amount of era score you require for certain thresholds is fixed, so if you delay the era score and get it at the start of the next era you have a jumpstart.

Except, of course, if you want to go for a Dark Age followed by a Heroic Age, then you should aim for it to be the other way around.

Opinion on this is all over the place. Some folks are saying compiled era scored DOES carry over, some are saying it does not. I think I need to see screenies of three different games, showing accumulated points from the ancient age, all at different amounts, and then the points required after the classical era starts. Anyone have some to post?

Tooltip the screen as @Boyan_Sun pointed out.

Its NOT carried over, its taken from current score. +12 for a standard and another +12 for golden. Modifiers or +5*previous goldens and -5 time previous darks + number of cities you have
Just check the tooltip

That's previous number of golden ages? I'm just curious if it makes the Golden Age threshold higher based on my Golden Age score?

If you are on 70 with 6 cities currently having just gone into a second golden age you need +34 (2X12) + (2X5) + (6 number of cities). That is an additional 40 era points from now... for a total of 110 to get another golden age.

I'm not following. Is getting the Golden Age exactly different from going 20 over in terms of the score you need to get the next Golden Age?

The turn you go into a new age (it does not matter what type of age it is)... the calculation is done then. That is the "current point"... sorry I could have been clearer
The calculation is also done using the total you currently have, not the threshold. Boyan Sun is Chinese so his plurals are probably off... maybe "Current points" is clearer.

Calculation performed on the turn of a new era for the next era.
Dark/Normal threshold = current points + 12 + city number when era begin - 5 * dark ages you entered before + 5 * golden/hero ages you entered before
Normal/Golden threshold = current points + 24 + city number when era begin - 5 * dark ages you entered before + 5 * golden/hero ages you entered before

Gotcha. So if you want to string together golden ages, you're a lot better off avoiding Era Score once you've achieved a Golden Age. It's not just that you can't use those for the next era, but that they'll actively make the next Golden Age harder to get.

It's not my favorite way to do this, but I guess it'll leave me with a choice between immediate benefits or something far down the road.

Threshold is higher, but you start from a larger base. So basically, it's always 12 + #cities + 5*num GA - 5*num DA more points for the next era.

Basically, if you want to waste points (ie would like to flip to a dark age), acquire more points before the era switch, and build more cities. If you want the next age to come easier, then wait until after the transition to settle/capture cities and get new score.

:( English is not my mother tongue. Sorry for the misunderstanding.

During my game, I feel that falling into dark age in classic era may be a very good thing. All era score threshold after classic era will decrease by 5. You will easily enter hero-golden age in the next 2 eras.

Learning the euruka+inspiration+era point most effective route makes game somewhat more complicated...

tl;dr: extra points before turning to the new age are essentially wasted.

Yeah I just learned this the hard way last night. I can understand preventing a player from snowballing too much but I wish those points didn't just get wasted. It feels gamey to DELAY doing historic things. Perhaps surplus era score obtained after a golden age threshold is met could be converted into something - maybe half that amount carries over to the next era, or maybe X extra points makes all your cities are Ecstatic for X turns (celebrating how great their golden age was)

Oh. I didn't notice that it didn't reset to zero when the age changes. I'll pay more attention during day two of playing.
