I decided to log back on after being away for awhile. The reason is that I have been DM'ing an Erebus campaign for a few months now.

We play every Sunday night and it usually ends with at least one dead player :mischief:.

The players are playing as reincarnations of the characters Arturus Thorne, Thessa, and Garrim Gyr. Initially they just rolled up normal characters and I basically played them off as having "amnesia". They started as Planescape low level characters and they woke up one day inside the Theatre of Dreams. They hitched a ride through Elysium and landed at a Balseraph caravan.

Now this campaign is basically a referried form of Fable, played via D&D using your mod as both the backdrop and as the campaign board. I have a 60 inch LED/LCD monitor in our game room with the whole screen used as the board btw.

I have an insane number of smallish quests as well as enough freeware to basically make any town on the map fully realized (and saved for future use) as well as enough random monsters to lighten any purse at the local resurrectory.

The game so far has involved extensive use of land hex/tile movement so far and has been quite strategic despite them mostly just dungeon crawling.

I added in a reputation system, which is VERY fun to use btw, and we also use the taint and insanity rules in Unearthed Arcana (playing 3.5 btw).

So far they have:

1. Stopped a cultist from manipulating the Theatre of Dreams artifact and handing it over to the Octopus Overlords.
2. Interrupted Basiums summoning into this world, accidently.
3. Defeated the Calabim Baron ruling over Foxford along with the help of Apple Treants (think Wizard of Oz).
4. Party deaths due to a few Minotaurs here and there as well...

They also have side characters, who perform tasks when the main lvl players are busy. Luckily I have a fairly large gaming group with plently of fill-ins.

They have accomplished the following.
1. Hippus player dies to minotaurs again.
2. Balseraph player dies and rerolls a Hippus because he learned they get a free horse when they start.
3. Kuriotate Halfling has things happen to him I can't type here.
4. Interrupted Tebryan Arbandi's tapping of the Bradeline's Well Artifact. As well as stole his Entrophy Mana.
5. Stole the Crown of Akharien, +6 to either Int/Wis/Sor, effectly a +3 to all mental skill checks while worn. Cannot be taken off without break curse etc etc.
6. Sailed to the Lanun Isles and traded the Entrophy Mana over for a Water Mana Crystal. This was in turn used to leverage the Treants assistance in taking down the Calabim's Governor Mansion in Foxford.

In this campaign I use the mana nodes in a kinda gimmicky way. Some examples below:

Racial starting mana; Chaos +1 to any 1 roll per play session, Body free toughness feat, Spirit +2 Will Saves, Law Mana Axiomatic Strike as a paladin of equal level etc.

Mana itself can be imbedded in a wand, rod, staff, wonderous magical item, etc, this will allow the players to cast spells like; Spring, Scorch, Courage, etc.

All of these effects have easily transferrable abilities in the D&D game itself.

If this thread gets any interest I'm thinking about updating at least every Sunday :p.

Damn, sounds fun. I suppose your players are local mates, and as such, unable to add randoms like myself?

This is a local, in-the-flesh game played in someone's game room, not something being done online. Unless they happen to be in the same city as you, the commute might be prohibitive.

That's a really interesting idea... I wonder if I could put together some sort of similar system.

This is the second summer for me DM'ing an Age of Ice story (post-apocalyptic survival horror pretty much) in 4e. Age of Ice has a nice, clear setting and a great atmosphere.
