Hey all
Thanks in advance for anybody who can give me any info on this as all search have failed.

I've just downloanded the latest civ 4 patch and now it won't let me launch the game. The error I'm receiving is in image below.

I'm running an intel p4 with 512 ram with whatever version of direct x civ 4 installed with the game. I've also downloaded the latest driver for my graphic card but it still didn't work. I bought this workstation a few months ago and haven't updated the video card yet but it's still above specs (Intel 128 Driver Version 6.14.10.4421)

Like I said befor the game worked fine until I downloaded the latest patch today? Not only that but the uninstall does not work so I can't reinstall without blowing it away and still that might not work.

FYI This is a bought version of Civ4 not a hack. Doing searches I've only seen refrence to the exact error in a hack discussion. The bigest annoyence is the fact I can't even uninstall it because it thinks I needs to use a newer version on uninstaller since the patch (I'm assuming by the error)

One other question do Civ4 TS guys actually anwser questions here or am I dempendent on someone here recognizing it and helping me?

Some times patches creat new subdirectories and install there. For XYZ reasons your patch did not install properly. SO do aa windows search of the file and see if it is any where in your hard drive. If it is, see if you copy it to Civ IV main directory helps. If you can't find it try the CD ROM. OR

Have you tried uninstalling using the uninstall from the Control Panel or just Civ IV uninstall. Also open then close your CD ROM w/Civ IV CD in it, the starting menu appears and it gives you an option to uninstall...GOOD LUCK!!!

Thanks that's a good idea
I found both patches (1.0.9, 1.5.2)) under user files and tried reinstalling it with no luck. But the weird thing is that the default download location looks like it has full install under it excluding an exe?

I did try all this prior and none of it worked. Even when I launched from the CD it gives me the error and unfortunatly the CD launch does not have a reinstall option.
After seeing what I mentioned above from your sugestions I went into the C:\Program Files\Firaxis Games\Sid Meier's Civilization 4 folder and launched civ 4. It launched with no errors from this location but when I checked the version # it said 1.0.9 . So I checked my descktop shortcut and for some reason it's pointing to C:\Windows folder and a civ exe dated 21 dec 2005 is in there

My main concern is if I delete all I still won't be able to launch the cd and will be forced to mess with reg keys for a solution. I'll try swapping the exe file and hope for the best.
Thanks for your help... Any other sugestions would be much appreciated

Well Apparently it installed the whole patch under C:/Windows with all the system files but the reg settings think it's properly installed. What a $%#@ pain in the ass.
I don't know what to do to clean this up since I can't properly uninstall?

What happens when you launch setup.exe from the CD? On my system, it offers to uninstall the game.

Yes it does
Great thanks
I'll update once I clean this up

Got it to work
Thanks for your help guys

I have to say this is total amature hour by the developers/QA of civ4. I can't believe I hade to spend 4 hours cleaning up after a patch install.
