Hey, I keep getting this error at the bottom right of my taskbar with he yellow triangle. It then disappears by itself. It does not do anything when i click on it. I am using a wireless system in my house and there are many neighbours in the same apartment building using wireless internet. Does anyone know what is going on?

I usually means that someone in your network has the same IP as you....

dou you get your IP through a DHCP Server?

How many wireless users are on the hub you're using? Do all of you share a router, or do you have your own?

If it's your own, you can set up your network so your PC dictates the IP, not the router. If you're sharing a router with a bunch of other people, then you're gonna have to figure out how to change the IP address yourself so it's not conflicting.

Ah ok I am sharing a router with 3 other computers. I don't know what a DHCP Server is. Where can i find out how to change my IP address? What kind of implications does this have?

DHCP stands for Dynamic Host Configuration Protocol. It automatically assigns a IP adress to any client requesting one and keeps track of them. Now if you have 3 computers, but only 2 of them use the DHCP, it could well be that the DHCP Server assigns the IP adress of the 3rd computer to one of the 2 others, since it can't know about any manually configured PCs. So first I'd check if all your computers use DHCP (in the network properties check if "automatically assign IP address is checked", don't know if it's called that, I only have a german os here, so maybe someone else could name the exact option).

as warpus said, another possibility could be that someone from outside is connecting to your wireless router using a fixed IP that's the same as the one on your pc. I strongly advise to encrypt your wireless router if you haven't done that already (and if you do, use WPA for encryption, since WEP isn't worth dung).

Hmm ok thanks guys. My internet wireless connection is password protected but it's WEP. How can it be changed?

And I guess I have to check the others for DHCP. Thanks. At least mine is configured for DHCP. If DHCP is working will it take time for it to reassign an IP if there is an IP Address conflict?
