Ethnicae - Mac / PC compatible Mod

Okay, I did what you said;
C:\Program Files\2K Games\Firaxis Games\Sid Meier's Civilization 4 Gold\Beyond the Sword\Mods
and I still see the errors.
Can't wait for the update. C:

Did you empty your cache ? You really should ask some questions to people around who can help you to confirm if your install is ok or not ... :)

Where is the cache? Or the cache for the computer?

I'm pretty sure that the install is okay; but I'll look around. C:

Taxation, I hope you really solved your problems !

Just a little post to announce the next update of Ethnic Mix More ( or Ethnicae ) for the coming Halloween

Soon on your screens ;)

I just noticed this for the first time. I saw that it was mac compatible and never really looked in because I don't have a mac, now I see that it is for pc as well. I'm downloading it now, really looking forward to the next version! Maybe someone has the ability to merge your unit graphics into a larger mod? That would be great too, but for now it's fine the way it is. Thanks.

EDIT: I just tried to load it and I get 4 or 5 xml errors related do diplomacy text and other things. I copied the Ethnic Mix More folder into my Beyond the Sword mods folder.

Just a little post to say ... euh ... well ... I'm late !!! I know I already should have uploaded Ethnic Mix More update ;)

Everything is ok except ... I want to finish some units before posting :crazyeye: and so I'm late ...

Soon on your screens anyway :)

ETHNIC MIX MORE 1.1 UPDATE :

I have been so away from games these time that's why I have been so late to finish Ethnic Mix More update :mischief:

So, here the first update of Ethnic Mix More :) and I numbered it 1.1 ( New Year Special )

What's new ? All minor problems are solved now ( until someone finds somes ! ) :p

Many improvements, new units, and 2 mods integration : GeoModder's Cultural City Style version 0.90 and Eden Project ( wonder mod ) from tsentom1

Another leader for France ( Louis XIII )

Every information you may need is in the first post of this thread !

Hope you'll enjoy it. And here some pictures ( in addition of the ones already posted in first posts )

There are no modern units pictures because they are already posted in another thread here :
Modern Units Thread

I know there is a lot of picture but as I consider it's important for a graphic modpack to have the better perspective as possible before downloading ! :)

To taxation and riddleofsteel : thank you to be interested by this mod ! But as I already said, this mod has already been tested both on Mac and PC and I'm pretty sure there are no xml errors.

The advantage to test it on PC ( beyond the fact it's a minima in a forum where there are so many PC players ) is to see what's wrong in xml when there is xml error.

The advantage to test it on Mac is when there is xml error : almost immediate crash !

So, easier for me to tell there is no xml error ... BUT perhaps there are some mods uncompatibility. I don't know, I don't play with many mods to avoid conflicts :crazyeye:

So, if someone gets problem with Ethnic Mix More, could you please post it and tell what is exactly installed in your beloved Civilization folders ! ;)

To come : some few pictures ( again )

Cheers to everyone and a bit late but truly : Happy new year !

Nice, I will certainly take a look :)

Concerning Cultural Citystyles 0.90, you should upgrade that to 0.95, 0.90 had a bug which was fixed in 0.95 which caused one of my games to crash in my mod (could play it again once I had upgraded to CC 0.95).

Hm, when I download the mod, my unpacker says it is corrupt, tried both the main download and the mirror and several programs to unpack it. Anyone else having trouble ?

My unpacker (7zip) claimed that too, but then I just force-opened it with in-built OS explorer (I have W7), and it worked. So the archive is not corrupt, but for some reason incomprehensible to some unpackers.

Thank you cybrxkhan ! :D

mamba :
mmmmmh ... bad ! I'm going to download it and see if something wrong.
I zipped it with Stuffit. The update has been downloaded 20 times but you are the first who's reporting a problem.

I could upload it in .rar format as well ;)
Coming back later and tell you if there is something wrong with the archive :)

About Cultural City Style v90 : I didn't noticed any crash, both platforms ( Mac and PC : windows XP ) and everything is working fine here but as I already said below, I suspect a mod conflict and as I don't have many mods installed, I can't say much.

Anyway, yes :D I have to update my mod with Cultural City Style last version for sure !

Walter Hawkwood : what is the most common packer used by PC users around ? I can "zip" and "unzip" with almost any tool. I don't have this kind of problem on the Mac so ...

Any clue or advice is welcome

Dunno, 7zip is cool and free (although I don't know if a Mac version of it exists) - and up to this date, your archive is the first it failed to open. Zip format itself is okay, but I guess you have to pack it with some other tool... I guess WinZip and WinRar are also pretty common; and then there must surely be people who just open their archives with their default OS explorer (which worked fine on your Zip). Moreover, I remember to have opened other files you posted without any problems (unit packs and 1.0 version of your mod).

So you can try any of those I mentioned. If you want to have more compression efficiency too, though, you can switch from .zip to .rar or .7z format, both are pretty common for files here on CFC.

7zip tools are ok for me too and there are somes on OS X. The only thing is that they are longer to zip than rar or zip tools ...

I downloaded my own upload and could unzip it without any problem ... on Mac

On my modest XP side, I got too a problem as mamba mentioned it.

Making new archives right now. One in .rar format and one in .7z format ( already tested working fine with the "basic" winrar )

Will post asap : when I finish to re-upload everything :crazyeye:

Thanks for the report !

PS : yes, I supposed there was no problem with my other archives. Maybe because they weren't "heavy" ... ;)

tsss ... these PC stuff ...   ( only joking of course ! no offense ... )

UPDATE

Okeeee ...

I re-uploaded both main link and mirror files

They now can be expanded with Winrar ( and any other un-compresssion tool I suppose )

One is in .rar format and the other is in .7z format. Both tested working fine ;)

For those who have already downloaded the previous file in .zip format :

- on Mac --> no problem at all
- on PC --> if you didn't encounter an uncompress problem, so everything is fine :) but if you had no success to unzip, new files are downloadable, same place ;)

Happy game ! and thank you

:coffee:

ETHNIC MIX MORE 1.2 UPDATE :

Here the second update of Ethnic Mix More :) and I numbered it 1.2 ( Valentine Special )

What's new ? Well ... As I try to progress with Nifskope, I enhanced many many units :)

One point of weakness of the mod was maybe the lack of difference between the Minor Asia civilizations ( Sumer, Babylon, Persia, Arabia, Ottoman ). As a good wizard, Bakuel made some fantastic Berber units a few weeks ago and so, I used them for Arabia and began to re-create and touch some pixels on Minor Asia units until I have enough diversity between them. Then, I used Bakuel Berber meshes to make too some Ottoman units and worked a lot on Nifskope to get some new Sumer/Babylon units. Related to Persia, I used both Bakuel great persia units and some of my own to propose a complete set.

So ...

- Almost all India units are re-created, including a new settler and a new scout ( instead of the MidEastern style of BTS who's really not accurate for India ! )

- Almost all Sumer units are re-created.

- Almost all Arabia units are re-created.

- Almost all Ottoman units are re-created ( including a new explorer )

I began to work on Asia units. There too, I used 2 Bakuel Berber mesh and surprisingly, it worked quite fine for some Khmer units :) So ...

- Almost all Khmer units are re-created ( added new ones )

- Almost all Korea units are re-created ( added new ones )

- Enhanced too some Mongol and China units

- Created a new Africa settler and created 8 new textures for all African shields ...

- Updated some Native units

- Changed all Carthage units and use the ones from Bakuel :)

- Updated almost all egyptian units with one mesh only ... Why ? Because I plan to work on new artwork for Egypt units and this mesh ( Ambrox one ) is particulary well done ! so, it will be a base to work on very soon :)

- Enhanced many Knights of several civilizations, mostly the horse part with a new 256x256 texture ! ;)

- I re-create a new carriage for War Elephants ( a 256x256 texture ) and then worked on War Elephants to get a more visual diversity set of 20 War Elephants. I havn't finished yet, so my apologizes, but I'll add more on the next update of the mod ;)
The carriage is a bit empty to let some other creators to add whatever they want ( weapons for example, which is not my best knowledge :( )

I'll post too these 20 War Elephants in a unit graphic specific thread for those who want them without the Ethnic Mix Mod.

- Added several cuirassiers more etnically diverse.

At last, as pointed by Mamba, I finished to get some crash after many multiplayer tests so, as GeoModder updated its great Cultural City Style to 0.95, I included it. This version ( 0.95 ) doesn't crash the game. I had no problem at all with it :)

And the Eden Project ( wonder mod ) of tsentom1 is still there .

Tested both on Mac and PC ( single and multiplayer ) and remember : this mod is for Civilization IV Beyond The Sword 3.1.9 only !

Every information you may need is in the first post of this thread !

Hope you'll enjoy it. And here some pictures ( in addition of the ones already posted )

Coming ... New 20 War Elephants ;)

Here screenshots of 21 War Elephants :)

Some of these elephants are based on Carthage WarElephants, some are based on Khmer ballista Elephants and some on Bakuel "vietnamtrungsisterselephants" ...

I found really interesting the animation of the Ballista elephants, even without the Ballista. More interesting than than classic War Elephant ... So, as the War Elephant is a bit a pure "fantasy unit" for some civilizations like Meso, Native and Europe civilizations, I imagine these ones could be different and could throw some kind of "bigarrows/spears" ( the reason I suppress ballista ). Interesting at war ;)

The Egypt one is not mine at all : it is Chugginator Elephant. I just changed the carriage and the driver ...

The Celtic one is not mine at all : it is sepamu92 Elephant I just enhanced the cover and the driver ...

As I previously said, some carriages are quite "nude". It's ok to anyone who wish to add shields or weapons or anything to go with :)

Weapons are not my best part ! ;)

My apologizes if there is not your fav civ War Elephant : I'll add more on the next update of the mod :D

Spectacular units! My only suggestion is to change the design/texture on the Hindu units' shields. This is because the shields seem to have some Islamic symbols / Arabic/Persian calligraphy on them, if my eyes are seeing right. And if I remember correctly... Hindus and Muslims don't have a very good history together.

Nice units anyhow. :D

Thanks for your advices cybrxkhan :)

In fact, some pictures research pointed me it's a mongol shield ( what I find a bit euh ... surprising ) but not really sure about the truth of the image I watched

The texture of this shield is more "flowery" but maybe as you say, still too much islamic designed ...

I found another picture and quite "near" of the texture I used. What do you think about this one ?
