Europa Universalis II

Played the original, which is very similar, and loved it. It's pretty complicated, so be prepared to spend a while learning the game. The most similar game I can think of is Imperialism.

I would definitely recommend it.

Yes, it's excellent. I like it much more than Civ 3. Pick a country, and expand, expand, colonise, and take it through 400 years of history, basically.

Here's a pic of a French-controlled Canada. :) - Well, it was suposed to appear! :(

Where is the pic ?

it's addictive as hell, once you work out what you're doing. However, I've never been bothered to actually complete a game.
For some reason i just don't find it as satisfying as civ or even imperialism.

I would say it's in my top 3 games - Civ 2, Imperialism, EU.

You may well find that your political/historical preferences come to the fore. All my games as England/GB involve gaining Canada, India, Australia, South Africa, plus Saxony, Hannover etc, and fighting a war with the French. I like the game so much because of its level of detail and history. It really is a great game.

Edited for really horrible grammar

Sounds like it gets pretty high marks from those that have played it. I've heard of it, but never tried it.

Argh, I knew this forum was dangerous... keep finding out about new strategy games that I just have to try...

Well worth your money, I havn't
had this much fun since Civ 2 came
out.

It is the Best Strategy game today.

Lots of History to look forward or
dread occuring. Good Trade and
economics.

Has supply lines and attrition
for armies.

I'm looking forward to taking
Zanibar tonight. Not only as
a centre of trade, but as a
naval base and springboard
to India and the far east.

Thanks everyone, guess I'll get it. It looks excellent, and apparently most people here think so too.

Great game. I haven't played in a while, but it is really fun and really addictive.

Teaches you patience in your stategery. Can't always be in a war and conquering.

Good stuff.

Heard it was good, never liked "Europa Universalis one", though.

This looks like a game I had years ago called something like "Mongol Conquest". It had the territories spilt up like this gameboard shows and allowed the player fairly complex control of each state's economy, military, and politics. The object was simply to conquer the world, using economic, political or military means. Rebellions were common  , and I spent half the- game shifting gold and food all over the map to keep bribed local officials loyal. If this game is anything like that, I may pick it up.

EU2 is more complicated than that, Vrylakas. There's even religion involved I think fr the reviews I read long ago. Very complicated.

Is this Mongol Conquest game called Genghis Khan 2 by Koei? I love this game too! :D

For some reason, never did got around to getting this game.... Probably a good thing, or else what remained of my idle time will drain away.... again. :)

Yes. Religion is a relatively big factor in it.

I have only EU, not EU II, so I don't know if it is different, but I always switch to Protestant for the imperialist capacity. Does anyone else always stay Catholic, or is the balanced changed in EUII?

It depends on who you are in EU2, As Spain I stay catholic, England i would switch.
