Europe map (Small)

Well, Jason's post made me to try it also.
I will do it tonight, i quess.
Sounds wery interesting.
I have always tried to begin in mainland, hoping to crab as much land as i can early one.

E: also religion and culture spread more easily, if you are situated in the center of the map.

Well, its truely good map, ruling sea means something here.
Im having troubles with culture - taking over your opponents cities, near your capital, they tend not to grow and keep resisting. Probably have to take some Great Prophet there.

This looks like it might be the map I am looking for. I cannot play on HUGE maps, game just boggs down too much, so I am looking for a LARGE europian map. What I did not realize was that since I can play TERRA Large well, I figured I could play a Large Europian map, but did not think about land mass being a factor.

So if this SMALL Europian map plays like a TERRA generated LARGE map, this will be perfect. Thanks for sharing either way.

I really like this map. I think it is well done and plays great on my machine. It is a little resource heavy for my taste and I do think there are some balance issues, but it is fun.

Great Map. Thanks.

How does it know to put the civs in the historical spots? How do I get itinto my game?

You just go in the editor in the first turn and you place the civs yourself, then you save the map and play as a scenario.

I also want to note that I like this map very much. I played other maps after I got bored form this one because of overplaying. It has this boardgame feel. Every nation is playable and each has its chance with different pros and cons. Except from Mali may be. It doesn't even have copper or iron.

This map is so close to perfect that you are always encouraged to fine tune it.

One single critisim will be about the greek and italian peninsulas. Italy seems shrunk at the bottom and Greece is wide. That is where I added 3-4 plain plots to south-east of Italy and replaced a square of land in Morea and two in the north with coast. A minor advice will be to fine tune the resource distribution to increase the success chance of Mali, tune down Egypt, etc for the board game feel. But this depends on the taste whether you are seeking balance or close-to-historical outcome.

This map is very good for my taste a I prefer to play with no more than 5-6 cities. I would love to see it reaching excellence.

This is a great map, and i play it almost exclusively.

However, I did update it with my attempt at balacing out some of the resource placements. Among many changes, i lowered the amount of oil, putting it in the North Sea, Caucasas, AFrica and Asia Minor, etc. My goal was to give England, Arabia, Africa, Siberia, and Romania oil. To balance it, give Hispania, and Western Europe (German, France) alumnium and extra coal. I added bonuses and some plot or two of land to Siciliy since it was a major 'breadbasket' of Italy. I also upgraded the site of Byzantium, since that was the world's greatest and biggest city for much of the classical and mediaeval era. There were other changes such as defaulting to no barbarians, and making Elizabeth the leader of Britannia.

However, I still haven't toned down Egypt yet, that will be my next intent. What I may do is take away a few of Egypt's superfluous bonuses like its dyes, perhaps take one of them away, etc. Egypt's in a fairly easy place to defend though because of the narrow passages from asian minor and west africa to the Egyptian main cities.

Another problem remaining is that Germany seems pathetic and weak, perhaps partially because of Frederick.

Added: Also, this version has the turn limit removed.

is it me who is getting better, or was this map "easier" to win at? I just got a Diplomatic Victory @ 1655, beating my old record with 300 turns...

You mean the custom 1.6 Version of the map I posted was easier?

Which side were you and what level?

romans @ warlord, first version of the map. And oh yeah, I remember someone pointing out something about Germany being unusually weak, well at least in my game, Bismarck turned out second in power and area.

Great map!

Why is it that whenever I play this game, the game always ends in the year 1500? I have been playing on marathon mode, if that makes a difference.

Open the map with a wordpad and delete the line:

MaxTurns=

Then save it.

:king:

I have made a Warlords version of the map (custom 1.6 from saw192837):

Added Vikings Carthage and Ottomans (removed Arabia).
Put some Deer for the Vikings.
Removed the Oil from the mountain (?) near Mali, put it on Desert.

Also removed all units so the number of units depends on difficulty level.

Have fun!

are your version of this map is also without turn limit? :)
ohh why there aren't small map with whole scandinavia? :(

This map is so good, it is going in both of my mods....

Using the Warlords edit of the edit, will give proper credit in the mod to those that worked on it.

On a side note I am looking for a realistic Africa and Possibly A North/Central/South America Map for warlorids when Civ Gold Warlords Ports over (a few days away) of different size's and different number of civ's (my mod can handle 24 but these would be less than that maps)

Anyone interested in giving a hand on those?
