Have you ever noticed, how in the original Col, there was a Situation in Europe that caused Colonies to go to war with each other, but NOW, there is Peace for 300+ years (more then 300 if you modded the time-frame)? Anyone going to make a Mod so that Wars actually go on in Europe, and if a war DOES start, The King gives you a few soldiers free of charge? (Maybe have them wait at the docks?)

If someone does end up trying to mod this in to the game, I suggest you make some of the REF soldiers of each side show up and attack the other colonies and defend colonies of their own.

I dunno, I think it should just spawn, like, a couple Regular's for each colonies' docks

Anyone making a mod of this? Is it possible to make it with XML so I could try?
I don't want the euros to be at peace for 300 years! :cry:

I don't know about free units, but I want this back from the old colonization - it could work as a demand from the king in addition to gold and taxes ....

maybe the first thing the king does is demands gold if you pay he is happy for the next 10 - 25 turns ... if you refuse he then asks you to go to war with another european nation, if you do it he is happy for 10 - 25 turns .... if you refuse he slaps you a +5% tax (or a goods party)

The basic Civ4 engine allows for random events and quests, which I find sorely missing in Civ4Col. I suspect the tags in the code are still there, but I'm not enough of a modder to make that happen.

Who's going to give us random events and quests for Civ4Col?

Cheers, --- Wheldrake

Some of the event code is in because the "tutorial quest" use them, but if some are missing, you can just copy from civ4.

Sounds great.

Wars in Europe could lead to different events in the colonies, ranging from :

Events before war (king inform the player that relationships get tense) :
- demands for funds (or goods like muskets) to support preventive king's military forces build up
- demands for "cover" operations (i.e. ask indians allies to declare war against enemy colony or sail a privateer)
- demands for diplomatic action (cancel treaties)

Events during the war (The European wars evolution could be calculated comparing the two REF) :
- demand for declaration of war against the ennemy colonies
- more demands for funds, weapons or troops
- privateers and/or fleets from both sides operating in new world seas
- limited royal expeditionnary forces launched against ennemy colonies

Events at the end of the war (treaty) :
- Funds again to be given to the winner ;
- Colonial city to be given to the winner;
- Weapons to be discarded (cannons, muskets, horses) or given to the winner;

Now, I AM going to Necrobump this thread due to my absence, mostly because I've been thinking on this. I'd still need to figure out how to do this, seeing that I haven't worked on it at ALL. But I figured that I'd make an event list in case someone gets around to it (or if a kind chap helps me, so I can get this stupid self-imposed title off of me)

Also note: It's been a while since I've played it (been busy with real life), so pardon me if I get something wrong)

Event List so Far: (in case you wonder, these I want sorta like the King's demands that are already in the game)

Event 1:
Spoiler :
- I am preparing to go to war against the [colony adjective], and my ever so full coffers have gone dry! You will pay me what I need, or else.
a) Yes, your majesty! -Some percent of your money, opens path for event 1a
b) We shall never support your wars! +Tax Percent, Opens path for event 1b

Event 1a:
Spoiler :
I am going to war against the vile [Colony Adjective from before?], you shall do your duty to me by eliminating their colonies.
a) Yes, my Liege! +2 Regulars at the docks, DoC against the colony.
b) Sorry, my Liege, but we cannot at this time. +Tax increase rate

Event 1b:
Spoiler :
I am going to war against the vile [Colony Adjective from before?], you will do what I say this time, right?
a) Yes, my Liege! +2 Regulars at docks, DoC against the Colony, decrease tge Tax increase rate
b) Didn't I tell you I would never support your wars? + even MORE tax increase rate.

Event 2:
Spoiler :
I have gone to war against the [Colony Adjective], you will support me, yes?
a) Yes, my Liege! +2 Regulars at docks,
b) I will not do that, my Liege. +tax increase rate

Very nice idea, would be good to see in the game.

Kinda related to this would be getting foreign involvement in the war of independence - this could probably be scripted with random events, biggest rival to your mother empire e.t.c.

Thanks for the reply. I was planning on doing Foreign Involvement in the War after I figure out where the money demands made by the King are. I was thinking with Foreign Involvement, maybe have at random times during the WoI, a foreign king would offer, say, Five Regulars, Two artillery, and maybe like, 2-ish Man-O-Wars, but as a result, maybe add some soldiers on to the King's REF? Once again, I'd have to find where the King's Demands are in order to do this (I think)

Yeah - this function was nice in the first COL. But there are also other things, that I miss from the original COL.

1. It's rather annoying that you can't turn back the ship, when it has leaved the docks of Europe. In the first COL, this could be done rather easily.

2. When you have tons of money, you don't get offers from your king or other leaders on buying regulars, dragoons or cannons.

Yea I'd love to see this feature in.
But don't forget to include the FF that prevents war caused by Europeans.
