Well? I see some people do, but most seem to name their cities by default. I just use the default city-names, but one time I played as England, and named the capital "Bloody Hell".:p

Hm, I always take the default, even if it is wrong, e.g. Heidelburg instead of Heidelberg.

Sometimes I use this list:

1) Erheam
2) Kortander
3) Sakuraton (:p)
4) Fette
5) Kentreden
6) Tomoyoton (:p)
7) Etc.

Also, I do things like "Iron City", or "Cense City", or sometimes I rename things to like "Calix-ta-watcha-ma-call-it". :D

when i run out of default city names, i start naming things at random based on words/places/people that are stuck in my head.

so far i have never established passed the default cities.

infact i was thinking about adding new city names like HongKong ect. that was not on the list.

also well know cities today that might not be on the list.

again.. even in HUGE maps, i never really go pass the default limit so i have not had a chance to use my "wierd names".

but i do hope i can someday...

hard if you cant raze every city you get.

if you can you can make more of your cities...

taking them from opponets gives you a choise to rename but i dont want to do that...
sometimes i may rename the opponet city to the closest chinese sounds for it...
but i dont rename them to my "wierd random names".

i guess last resort would best sum it up... a wanted last resort.

I name cities after the cities in the fantasy novel I wrote.

Acropolium
Meluna
Regnus
Sevordur
Dwarfston
Illarium
Dragon Peaks

i just go for the default name. i also leave the name the same if i capture it.

the only time i every renamed a city was when i was america and added D.C. to washington and playing germany when i got to Berlin 2 utter confusion at that point
(Germany doesnt seem to have a very long list of cities

When I run out of default city names, I use the single letters for each town starting with small letters. I haven't had to go past the capitals yet.

Yeah, once out of sheer boredom I named everything after cities in Iowa. After about the 50th city I was digging for an atlas. But for that brief, shining moment I was the commander of Quasqueton...

I always go with the default names. If I run out, I go to an atlas and start finding 'correct' names for the civ/culture in question (nothing made up).

I take the default, but rename, using other city names from the civ/country, once they run out, which happens depressingly early with some civs.

I'll sometimes rename them in multi-player. Names that are insulting to my friends I'm playing against, just to clown them.

I rename cities a lot, but usually for gameplay purposes. For example, a city that generates lots of gold will be named 'gold mine' and city that is dedicated to pumping out settlers will be named "Man Mill"

Germany has only a very short list of 16 cities, and their leaders and one city (Heidelburg -> Heidelberg) are spelled wrong. Most civs have over 32 cities in the list.

When I used to play the Aztecs in Civ2, I'd give them more Aztec-sounding names after the name-list ran out (didn't even know what I was putting though). I don't really do that now...
