Don't know if this has been up before :rolleyes:

1
The computer never moves Caravans on the map, after it has been built.. it get teleportet to another city!! cheating! hehe.

2
What is the best way to get most trade? I have discovered that it is better if it is far away horizontal but not vertical.. anyone can confirm?

3
If the computer has a unit fortified in your contry for a longer time, then suddenly every turn a diplomat comes out of that square and destroy something in my city... what is up with that? can computers produce diplomats without cities? or must one city build it and then the diplomat gets teleportet?

And remember: A true Civ player never uses :nuke: (unless the Computer uses them first hehehe)

Never seen a dipomat that wasn't a barbarian. Upload the map & sve file and some screen shots.

I've never seen a diplomat coming. I think that I have seen them in the split second that go into a city, but usually its just a message saying that "The Germans (AI) have stolen Steel from the Indians (me)." You never see them on their way.

And -by the way, how come the AI can meet with me anytime they want but I have to send a diplomat to them?

i think it did happen while i was playing civ.1 at amiga2000 ( -> ~ 1995 )
but it DiD happen and was visible... :crazyeye:

I know, and it used to frustrate me to no end because they could and would often kill my caravan while they got theirs out for free. Grr! :mad:

Your trade per turn doesn't change based on distance but your trade bonus does. I've never tried what you are saying about the horizontal and vertical. Test it more by counting squares between and getting 2 cities an equal number of squares apart, and see what happens.

I have never seen a diplomat from the AI in Civ1. The units can do all that stuff, just like the units can talk to you without needing a diplomat like we need.

Yup, this is one of the many ways AI may cheat on you. Those diplomats are produced out of the tile the unit is placed on.
And these diplomats are indeed visible. You may see their image slide from below the other unit into your city. At least it does look like a covert action ...

In addition - the AI's diplomats are visible in general, even if created in a city. I usually take my fighters or bombers to take care of them asap on their home turf when at war.

I've only been back playing Civ1 for a week now after a long absence, and I do play the SNES version. I do not remember ever seeing a diplomat from another nation, but again, I haven't played for awhile.
