Everyone declared war on me! why?

I play on noble as well, and I had 2 stacks:

6 cavalry
5 cannon
3 machine guns
1 grenadier
2-3 rifles

Shortly thereafter, I upgraded the rifles to infantry :). However, this third stack in the field pillaging on the way to the capital is a great idea. I will utilize this in my next war... which as it looks will be my last push to grab that time victory.

i would recommend dropping the cav, the grenadier, and 1 machine gun in favor of rifles,
im a bit more aggressive though.

let me know how it went, or maybe even post a save?

i kicked ass. no one could touch my stack because of the 3 machine guns. After sending in the cannons for collateral damage, the cavalry rushed in with no casualties

U use the machine guns like that? I didn't mean to steal ur strat bro lol. I had just grabbed RR when I declared war, and upgraded half my grenadiers to machine guns (they already had Combat I and Pinch awesome! str 18 +85% against gunpowder units!). I had a ton of cav and figured that the only real counter was rifles (gunpowder ;) )

well, like i wrote above, i usually focus less on defense during an assault...but yes, usually ill bring 1-2 machineguns per stack. sometimes i neglect them altogether though.
i am thinking of moving up to prince difficulty, to see if my current methods will work there too. :)

Does that work? I've disabled Diplomatic victory in my games but I've built the AP in them myself.

In the normal course of things, that shouldn't be possible. The Civilopedia entry for the Palace has "Diplomatic Victory must be enabled" under the building requirements, and I just ran a test in worldbuilder the make sure of it. I'm not running Solver's patch or any other mods, so maybe something got switched around in your game. As it stands, no Diplomatic Victory = no Apostolic Palace.

I was mistaken. Looking back I thought I had disabled that victory condition when I hadn't. I stand corrected.

To put in my "two cents" worth, the idea should be to build the AP first (I always put a priority on this wonder)!!! That way you typically control the vote and avoid Holy Wars against you. Also there are definitely a few pluses by building it:

- You can vote to be given someone else's city. This is a nice little plus if you're into building culture and can influence a foreign city with it. A little surprisingly, this doesn't seem to make the old owner of the city angry with you...???

- You can vote for members to stop trading with another civ if there is someone that you really don't like. Probably will drop a few negative points into the relationship rating with that nation, but if you don't like them what the heck.

- Obviously you can get your fellow members (i.e. having at least one city with the same religion as your state religion) to declare war on another nation. HOWEVER, I never have been given this option and I was surprised to see it becoming a problem for you.

- You can win the game through diplomatic victory later in the game -- sometimes!! I haven't been able to figure out the rhyme or reason of why and when you are prompted with this option.
