Everyone hates me because I won't DoW on them?

Not everyone; just the people who demonstrate logical fallacies, doublethink, a tendency to completely miss the point, etc.

How has anything in this thread missed the point at all? You are arguing that civs that you do not backstab - for WHATEVER motive - should love you for it. We are arguing that you should not like someone for staying neutral.

Your arguments consist of insults and saying no. Ours consist of thought-out responses.

The user "none" missed the point, assuming that I was seeking advice on how to best handle my dilemma.

Your arguments consist of insults and saying no. Ours consist of thought-out responses.

Actually, my arguments consist of well-thought-out responses, whereas the opposition runs the gamut from almost-as-well-thought-out responses to insults, and everything in between.

You are the only person believing that civs should love you for staying neutral. You are contradicting ANYTHING we say at all.

I'm just gonna stop posting in this thread. It's a lost cause, like arguing to a 12th century Christian Church that the Earth revolves around the sun.

You are the only person believing that civs should love you for staying neutral.

But I DON'T believe that. This is called a "strawman argument", and is an example of a logical fallacy.

like arguing to a 12th century Christian Church that the Earth revolves around the sun.

...and this is an example of a personal insult.

That last part was just so... un-thought out that I have to reply. How am I insulting myself by comparing you to the 12th century Christian church, whose beliefs were that anything you don't agree with is wrong?

insulting myself

Since that was obviously a lame attempt at a troll, I'm going to change the direction in which this thread is going. Specifically, it's STORY TIME!

Our first story goes like this:

Frederick: Hey G-Max, help me in my fight against the evil Catherine!

Catherine: No, G-Max! Help me in MY fight against the evil Frederick!

Me: Actually, I'd rather stay out of this one. But have fun destroying each other while I surge past you both in score.:goodjob:

Frederick: You're taking her side! You suck!

Catherine: You're taking his side! You suck!

Me:

Our second story goes like this:

Catherine: Hey G-Max, I'm feeling lonely and a little bit drunk :mischief:. Would you like to have your way with me?

Me:  Well, I've stopped getting involved in the affairs of other countries, but you're pretty hot and I like submissive chicks, so OK.

Frederick: What's this? GRRR! DIE!! :ar15:

Me:

Catherine: Oh, didn't I tell you? Fred and I are having another lovers' quarrel. Have fun fighting my war for me, LOL :D.

Me: :cringe:

I agree that G-Max is a troll. You don't ask for why something is like it is and then start calling everyone idiots because you disagree with their views.

There are plenty of people who all perfectly understand the reasoning behind the AIs behavior. Now regardless of whether you agree with that behavior, you've had numerous explanations and examples to help you understand why it is that way. You've had your answers. The diplo is like it is for not actively helping but instead actively rejecting.

So shut up, and quit trolling.

IMO, you actually should be able to stay neutral and not incur everyone's wrath.

The Allies, for example, did not immediately DOW Sweden after WWII just because Sweden refused to join with the Allies/stop trading with the Axis.

Of course there should be a temporary relation hit. But those minuses should go away once peace is declared.

There should also be some function of power, starting relations, and distance.
AI country DOW/stop trading requests, again IMO, should be much rarer, pretty much only occurring if at least one of following are true;

You have good relations with the requester - friendly or better.
You share a border with both the requester and his target.
You are the #1 *power* country.

Of course arguably these AI requests aren't meant to have any real relationship with historical occurrences and are instead for pure game mechanics. Its possible you would end up with far fewer wars if there was nothing angering AIs against each other and you.

My two cents.

It's nice to finally see that I'm not the only sane person here :pat:

... You're calling yourself sane? All you're doing is contradicting anything that doesn't fit with what you have hardcoded into your brain as 'True' and praising everything that does fit with it.

What I'm doing is contradicting everything that doesn't make sense.

Well, if we're using hyperbole, then it's STORY TIME again!

Frederick: Hey G-Max, let's tag team against Cathy. I'll take her from the front while you go through the back door :groucho:

Me: No. Screw you. Also, your hat is stupid. Did your boyfriend pick it out for you?

Catherine: LOL, nice one. High five!:high5:

Nah, he isn't insane. He is just successfully trolling you.

But, that is half the fun. This is the only place I know that responds to trolling with solid logic fairly regularly.

What I'm doing is successfully defending my reasoning against logical fallacies and personal attacks (such as accusations of trolling).
