Evolution????

Any civilization with a Macdonalds within its borders gets a larger population. Not more people, just larger ones.

Mod that, please.

We could have cities founding McDonalds, whilst a rival founds Burger King  . You would create business managers that would open new restaurants (if they can be called that) in your opponents cities. AAAAGH! I have been converted to Pizza Hut!!

Wait, isn't Darwin a great scientist in the game? I can imagine loosing evolution in the chopped-down tech tree, but having him in the game nonetheless (and able to build his own academy) is quite a concellation.

I agree that the game may be somewhat anthropocentric with greek-roman-american wonders dominating the landscape, but they're the ones that most stand out to the team and plenty more can be added later.

However, considering Bollywood and the film-making state of modern Torronto, having a movie mecha as a national wonder after some civ founds hollywood would be a cool expansion idea.

One thing I'd definitely like to see, for the sake of civ diversity, is national wonders actually being specific to the civ, like the Greeks get the Illiad and the Romans get the Aenied and the Arabs get Gilgamesh instead of each of them getting the generic heroic epic.

I think you agree, that industrial, Industrious and Organized are the most important traits in Civ4.
and now considers which Civilization gets this three traits..... the american one ;)

I thought it was ants, but mebbe I'm missing something...:crazyeye:

How is the commonly-cited McDonalds/KFC/Pizzahut 'American culture'??

like people didn't eat fried chicken or burgers before they came along?? Or is it that Americans invented pizza??

In the same logic Japanese culture is officially all over the world cuz everyone drive a Toyota. (and play Playstation 2, have a Sony tv, eats SUSHI).

Back to the original theme.

Know someone why Darwin's Voyage taken out in Civ 4? In Civ 2 and 3 was it a powerful Wonder, where you get 2 research findings.

And what happend to the Johann Sebastian Bach chapel, Isaac Newton University, Kopernicus Observatory, Zeus statue, Shakespear theatre, Magallan's voyage,... Could it be that the people from Firaxis the good old europe hate??

And where is the Great Wall??

But also the americans must accept that this is not fair to the second greatest game market in the world, when only their culture is eliminated from the game.

Civilization was always a game for all people around the world, but the new Civ need the subtitle "Americas Culture".

It's not evolution...

It's ELVIS-lution!

Charles Darwin is a great scientist in the game. I got a popup message saying that Charles Darwin was born in a foreign country.

Americans popularized it through the innovation of fast food chain restaurants. There were really *no* chain restaurants prior to America's development of them.

Video games and cheaply, but well manufactured cars are in fact a staple of modern Japanese culture. Video games, microchips and cheap mass production have their roots in Japanese invention and innovation. Without Nintendo's cultivation of video games, we'd most likely still be in the 'digital dark ages' in regards to the popularity of video games. Back in the 80s, the only people who owned game consoles were considered 'geeks', now every teenager owns one.

Well this is a first. People complaining that a Civ game isn't euro-centric enough =P

Europe was the hotbed of civilization in the past so maybe it should be more Euro-centric!

Here's an idea, lets remove America from the game. That should solve it. I mean after all it IS made up of the European countries anyways, why should they get anything when most of the world (based off population/land mass) isnt American.

Honestly, You can take it all away but removing Hollywood from American culture seems absurd. Its the reason we are morons people. If you take away our high budget movies we have to read! The inhumanity! Take Broadway its not even a real big deal over here unless you want to be an actor... in Hollywood. I agree with the above quote of having Musical stuff just be 'pop' aka 'popular music theatre' or something.

And yes the game is gonna glorify America. Sid probably grew up here and knows this culture better. If he was british big ben would be in here, which I am very mad it isnt honestly because every sim city game I play has it in town square. It may not be a wonder but its cool as all hell.

OK, here is an issue on which I CAN agree. To me, the removal of Theory of Evolution is a terrible tragedy for what sounds like an otherwise great game. To me, it seems clear that an obvious effect might be bonus Great Scientist points for the creator, or possibly a free scientist specialist or just a free Great Scientist for the creator. BTW, it would no longer be a 'Wonder', IMO, but a World Project.
As for the other stuff, I think it would be great to see the Baroque, Classical and Romantic Artistic movements as World Projects-working much the same as Hollywood or Broadway. Similarly, having Bollywood, Pop Music and West End theatre would also be great 'alternative Wonders' in the modern age, to reflect alternate cultural superiority.
That said, though, I think we can definitely look forward to a mod featuring this kind of stuff in the not to distant future-but ToE should have really been in the vanilla game!

Fast Food Industry. World project- +2 Happiness, +2 Culture and -2 health. Creates 5 Fast Food types which can be exported to other nations. Boosts the chance of the appearance of 'Fast Food Retailers'-such as Ronald MacDonald, Colonel Sanders, Taco Bell and Burger King-who can perform a 'build franchise' order. This earns gold for the city which built 'Fast Food Industry'. How does that sound?

If you go to many third-party countries and mention "West End" they will stare blankly back at you, but mention "Broadway" and your more likely to get a response of recognition. Same goes for Hollywood and Bollywood, which copied the name from Hollywood. I"m glad to see Darwin go. Origin of Species can be consider a great work from down under, and I don't mean Australia. All it did was lead millions of people into the pit of dispair.

The Great Wall is not in the game. Amazing. Its the only man made structure ( of the ancient era) seen from space. Simply must be in the game. As should Babylon. How can you have a hanging gardens without babylonians in the game?
Agree with Lurker on Darwin also.
peace.

Oh dear. Im going to burn in hell anyway for not going to church every waking hour, so believing in some tangible like the theory of evolution is no big deal!

That would be so good!

Also, as with the religions sweeping a country, fast food franchises could do the same!!

Taco Bell has replaced Burger King as the State Junk Food!

That is actually an exxcellent idea for a mod, Hentooth!

:)

And religion caused so much joy; as crusaders and inquisitors made millions into mushy meat paste.

No thanks, Cyberman - I'll take science over fairy tales every time.

I played my second CIV IV game yesterday evening and well ehm - - one can argue about the pentagon, mount rushmoore and the internet. Probably that's okay for a "wounder" or at least a "great monument" but plze be honest: Broadway, Hollywood and ESPECIALLY Rock'n Roll - this Elvis building with a pink guitar on its roof. That's not the CIV I used to play--- that simply is KITSCH! Hope it will be removed or changed in a mod.
AND I'm looking forward to an espionage mod. Why can't I do espionage missions like in CIV II? Poison my enemies drinking water and bring atomic bombs in cities protected by the SDI??
AND I'm looking forward to a U.N. mod. The way the UN is implemented in the game is loveless. In SMAC the planetary council was much better (not only optical) there were different possibilities and when a resolution is passed, why can't I trespass against it? Why am I forced to have e.g freedom of opinion??
That could have been solved more elegant and exciting.

Now now. This topic has remained fairly civilised so far, let's try to keep it that way.

Losing many wonders isn't nice, but kind of unavoidable with the concept of great people. What would it be like if you had Bach running around as a unit while your neighbour completes his cathedral?

Besides, we got Stonehenge and Notre Dame (And maybe some others. I don't have the game yet.) in exchange.
