"Exotic" units

Does the Samurai unit count as Exotic?

Genghis K - why so harsh on fundamentalism? It's not that hard to get the normal pace of research if you have the necessarry equipment (libraries, wonders) while being worshipfull + you get all the benefits of total war. Cool, no?

Getting back to exotic units - the one unit that i used for the first time in serious combat today was the marine. I have never really relied on marines, mostly due to their slow movement. I usually wait until i have armor. But today i was ruthlessly attacked by Americans and had no other choice than to kick their asses back to Chicago with cavalry/marine/artillery formations. So, i guess the marine is an exotic and unused unit for me.
Another unit i seldom use is the dragoon, because somehow i get tactics quite quickly and if i'm in the mood for quick movement, cavalry is what i build.

I admit, I don't use "exotic" units. I just use the big and bulky units to force my way into the enemy territory, or just bribe my way in. I don't want to waste shields for my futile pillaging efforts. If you're going to attack, attack full heartedly, not with a scrawny little alpine troop. A couple of howitzers and a group of bombers will do.

What I think is truely redundant is the Crusader. Who the hell will build a crusader? It's almost the same as a knight. No wonder it was removed with the Facism patch.
