Expansive Dreams

Here are the decisions I think we need to make.
1)Should the scientist bulb PP?
Yes, that's my thinking. Will help our economy alot.

2)What should our tech path be? Tech (bulb)PP>Nat>MT>onto Rifling if it makes it that far.

3)Should we attack with our stack now and bring the cannons in as reinforcements? Yes, capture Amsterdam then wait for cannons to come in.

Declaring on WvO will makes us Declare on Mao too. He's at friendly, +6gpt for fish/sugar. We can trade JC Guilds+Music+war with Nao for Edu+Chem, maybe too big atm.

Good work sturick.

I would be happy with taking Amsterdam before we have loads of Cannons as the shrine gold will pay for our army nicely.

Tech > Bulb PP and head up to Rifling with detours for MilTrad.

Now we can build the IW we should decide were to put it. I don't think it should go to uMgung (I think HE and IW together is a waste). Chose asecond high production city and build it there. This will mean we can run to military cities and still try to grab a wonder or 2 if we wanted (or had time before we win!). Capital could be a god IW city.

I would also consider running Merchants in Seoul so we can hopefully get a GM for a trade mission to upgrade troops as and when we need to. Fast Sci supported teching isn't really that important to us now we have the tools to win this.

I'm away till monday evening so I'm afraid I'll be unable to disscus strat with you guys.

Go get some marines!

I have no problem letting Cripp wait until Sunday, but we could alternatively have Narri play now and Cripp play next.

I would be open to that idea too, except for the fact that I'm going to be traveling in a few hours. I think I should be able to play from where I'm going (if I don't get it in two days after Cripp is done, consider it a skip), but certainly I won't be ready to play until at least Sunday.

bulb PP->Rifling, then Nationalism for Taj and draft.

military strategy:
Code:
while(1){make_unit(UNIT_CANNON);destroy(SURY);}
make JC war on mao if it doesn't give away the house
If sury vassal is available, take it.
then stab Mao + WvO.

Game should be over by then!

Stop here.

Cannons are starting to roll into Rotterdam, might be a good idea to kill research after rifling. RP in 2t, Rifling in 13t. Nat in 8t.

At a glance it looks like a job well done Cripp!
I'll take a look at the save later.

I took a look at the save; nice job Cripp.

Pretty much only one question left: Do we take all of Sury's cities and eliminate him or vassalize everyone?

We're at 45% land (need 64%). We should settle the remaining open land with three culture grabbing cities (c2* + the south):
Spoiler Southern Sites :
civ_ed_6_culture.JPG

Green dot is total garbage, but red can probably hit 100 culture easily to grab some extra tiles.

Sury owns 22% land so if we took every city we'd be at ~67% (less since we'd lose all his culture and borders would shrink, but still enough for a win, espec with our extra land grabs). On the other hand, if we vassalized, we'd probably need to get Mao too, or maybe vassalize JC too and win by conquest. With such a tomahawk stack, I find that people capitulate pretty fast; in fact, in one of my recent games, one AI threw in the towel after I wiped out his stack before I even took a city. In terms of pure win date, I think vassals would be the quickest. I guess it really depends on how quickly Sury will capitulate once we start turning the screws.

I agree that we can more or less turn research off after Rifling if we need. As for Ironworks, I don't even know if we need to build it. Ulundi can build 6 cannons instead (more if we switch to Police State (which we should after Rifling)). uMung would tradeoff even higher since its has the HE. Pretty much just turn off the economy and spam military. We hardly even need to at this point; good game team.

I say push south in to Surys land and take 3/4 cities. Vassalise. Hit Mao rinse and repeat.

Only build military and produce gold. Forget tech. No one stands a chance now!

If we switch to a war economy (PS/Theo/Vass) stay in CS so we can run merchants.

Spam our unfilled back lands and run food and artists there.

Its some nice play guys!

I'm thinking of opening a new SG based around the SPI trait and maybe bumping the difficulty upto Emp (or not...). I'd like to reserve places for you guys first if your up for it. PM me or just RSVP in the thread when its open (maybe today/tomorrow).

got it, but I'm on a 28.8 kbps connection where I am, so I can't see any of the pictures!

I'll probably get the set done today or tomorrow, but the report probably won't have pretty pictures in it unless I find a faster connection.

Mission: Rifling, revolt to Police,Vas,CS,Merc,Theo and crush everyone. If I get any GP other than GE, I will hold for a golden age later. Cannons will kill and kill and kill and....

GP: if I get a GE and AP is not done yet, I will finish it. Otherwise, will golden age to save our economy as the cannons roll.

Consider this an RSVP for the next SG, but put me later on in the rotation (my vacation lasts 3 more weeks, and I'd rather have pictures in my reports :) ).

The internet is so slow here, so I'm not even going to bother proofreading this on the forum.

Pre-turn:
Everything looks good.
Trade Dye to Mao for 7gpt just because I can.

Turn 1: 1300 AD
Delhi Cannon>Cannon
uMung Cannon>Cannon
Bombay Buddmon>Buddmiss

Stack waits for more cannon.

Turn 2: 1305 AD
RepParts comes in, Rifling in 11
Seoul Trieme>WB
Trieme kicks the barbs out, Seoul enters starvation mode...
Iron Fish Cannon>Settler, meant for south

DoW Sury, move stack towards Isvarapura

Turn 3: 1310 AD
oops, lost a worker near Banteay Kdei to a catapult, revenge by a longbowman
Nijmegen pops borders, converted to granary
stack now poised to strike isvarapura

Turn 4: 1315 AD
Destroy a stack of 3 knights, a HA, and 2 trebs losing 1 cannon, 1 treb.
Seoul WB>WB

1320 AD:
GS pops in Seoul (bah!), super specialist him (as SciMethod does nothing at this point)
GS in Ulundi stays put, hoping for something else next.

Try to be greedy and try to revolt Isvara with a spy, but it fails at 86% :(

Turns out it wasn't necessary, as Isvara falls with no losses.

1325 AD:
JC is losing his war (Actium captured by Mao).
Forces enroute to Amsterdam.
Cannons....
1330 AD:zzz

1335 AD:
Sury builds Notre Dame (LOL)
Mao is at peace with JC
Amsterdam falls with the loss of 1 musket (I love cannons)
1340-50 AD:
Move towards Hague and start beating down defenses.

1355 AD:
AP is done.
Hague's defenses are put to zero as troops are coming.

1360 AD:
We of course get AP residency.
Rifling is in. Put in Nationalism, but we can stop researching here.
The Hague falls with the loss of one catapult and one trebuchet. One cannon is lost in unrelated business.
And Sury capitulates!!!!!!!
I do some resource trades to get stuff we don't have like Marble and Wheat from sury for surplus resources.
I make Sury convert to Christ in anticipation of diplo victory vote.
I stop here.

Notes:
I love cannons now. It is astounding how powerful a Steel slingshot is!
I have two cannons outside Utecht as that was the next target.
Settler is at c2* and at the iron hill in the south, but THEY ARE NOT SETTLED.
GS is sleeping in Ulundi still, hoping for a non-GS next.
Change all the scientists is Seoul to anything else.
If the next GP is not scientist, then golden age->revolt to stuff, otherwise, take the 4 turns of anarchy.
Hell, we'll probably win diplo at this point unless Mao also falls quickly. Spread christ to sury's cities if it looks like it will be close. And persuade him to convert to Christ again if he goes out of it.
Game is as good as over. Good job guys!

I didn't actually do any revolting when I realized there would be four turns of anarchy to get everything I wanted (the cannons of doom were still being built at that time). Had a non-GS popped from Seoul, I would have done the civic changes with a Golden Age (no anarchy).

Nationalism is the current technology being researched (no turns invested).

Sorry again for lack of pictures, but you don't know how painful it is to connect to CivFanatics on a sub-56k connection in India.

Will reupload soon.

Nice work setting us up for victory narri!

Since I probably won't play before this one is finished I took the liberty of quickly playing the save out to the end.

The score is tops on my high score list by quite a large margin...

I won't reveal anything further (even though it would take quite a bit to lose this one) but our gameplan is sound!

Unfortunately, I think I will have to pass on the Spiritual Odyssey.
I am currently in 4 SG's and that is too much for me to focus on.
2 is the magic number I think.

Good luck and I will certainly be lurking your next game!

Yeah, grandad I would say just play this one to the end to and finish us out unless some major unforseen event occurs and warrants a discussion.
