experienced captain

Someone should compile a list of all events that produce good benefits like these, where the iWeights are high enough to warrant going out of your way to fulfill the prerequisities. As mentioned, things like city ruins and keeping it in your borders... if you can abuse that event several times it may be quite a good strategy, especially if doing so means you are also less likely to get the crappy events like floods etc.

I remember one of my old favourite events is called something like "Federal Reserve". It reduces inflation if you pay a lumpsum amount. It required Free Market and Corporation...[and 1000:gold:]

i'm too lazy to make a list, but i could link a bunch of these discussions onto one thread.

As I said in the other link, I don't think hunting for oil is worthwhile.

But I do make a point not to improve over city ruins. And I do try to keep some petty cash around. 10gp early on for forest fires up to 500gp late in the game.

I've never thought of fishing for the Sea Captain event. But I do believe the idea has merit. I often have an obsolete, but highly experienced naval unit that I'm planning on upgrading some day. Why not park him in my heroic epic/drydocks/settledGG city? Great idea!

I would like to see a good thread for discussing the strategy of random events.

It should discuss:
--how much gold is the right amount to keep on hand as the game progresses
--lists of specific tricks that may really be worthwhile because they are not much of a hassle and/or have a high enough payoff that the expected cost/benefit ratio is good.

well, here's something. as for the :gold: on hand, i'd say, roughly:
ancient: 10:gold:
classical: 20:gold:
medieval: 40:gold:
renaissance: 250:gold:
industrial and onward: 1000:gold:
