Exploit?

Yeah, but you had so many children because of her. She increases the rate of children of Kyorlin GPP.

I took the mage because I memorized the spot on the map that gave you "Knowledge of the Ether" for free, so sent my scout there immediately. She pops up to having fireballs instantly and makes life so easy.

Plus the extra science from her building while she is in a town is REALLY nice :)

When I played it I took the mage but she was pretty useless really, I remember I had a lot of children of Kyrolin who could cast better spells then her. I don't think I ever made it to upgrading her though.

I doubt that the spells they could cast are better than the fireball IF you get Knowledge of the Ether early. It can be dominating early and middle of the game. It can kill units (getting a lot of experience points for her in the least along with killing the enemy!), it can take down the cultural defense, etc.

Of course, the key is how you get 'Knowldedge of the Ether' quickly!

Try to find the Elohim Chancel quickly; it gives you Knowledge of the Ether for free, without even needing the prereq techs.

I haven't played AoI much (I more of a builder, so te scenario doesn't fir my style), but I find it is best to choose the Caerbulin and send him straight to the chancel (a little north east of the center of the map) to get the free tech. Then, when he dies, get Epona and upgrade her at once.

In AoI, when a hero dies you get to choose another of the remaining heroes. The first turn you have 3 choices, when the first dies you have the there two choices, when you lose your second hero you have one more left, and if you lose the third there will be no more replacements..

Heh heh. I got that event the first time I played it. All I had was my capital city at the time though, so Mulcarn won a religious victory instantly :)

i too had to give myself a slap after i picked that selection and immediately lost

was that input as a joke do you think?

Note however that the new hero does not start with any extra experience points. So the lost hero can be very, very costly. When that hero with 150 EP's is replaced by one with none, it can be a game breaker.
