I'm playing a normal game on Warlords and have about 6 opponents. I decided to attack early on and took two cities from the Arabs. However since then I've come under attack from three other opponents, including the French, who have taken one of my cities.
I was just wondering how other players on here succeed in games against many opponents?

Generally speaking, I would not allow such a situation to arise in the first place. If you got "jumped" by 3 opponents, I'd say only 3 things could have gone wrong.
1. Your military was too small and you looked like a good target
2. You made some errors in diplomacy such as arrogant demands, religious conflicts, etc.
3. One AI disliked you and bribed the other into the war.

At this point, I would suggest trying to get a war ally yourself or if possible make peace with 1-2 AI opponents. Beyond that, fight smart...human players have an advantage in wars, use it.

you can add n°4 to Olgruk's list:
you didn't make sure that everyone had something to do (= a war).

To be sure that you won't get backstabbed, you get bribe one AI vs another. This way they have enough on their hands, and won't dogpile on you.
