Hello,

Like some, I have gotten the error:

Failed to Initialize Renderer - Check Direct X version and graphics settings.

I am using the most recent version of the ATI drivers.

Attached is my Dxdiag.txt

Please help!

Yes, I have run through the instructions at that URL. It doesn't give me the error anymore, but now the game just doesn't start after showing the "loading screen"

Yes, directx was installed from the game CD although I am pretty sure I already had it installed at version 9.0c.

Any other advice?

I Have The Same Problem
After Using That Tool，that Error Message Doesn’t Appear Again。but THe Game Just jumps Back To The Desktop Like Nothing Happens。。。。。。。。。。。。。

I have followed the same, and still get that dumb message.

Ok - delete everything in the "cache" folder in the Civ 4 directory. That might help.

I think thats why I jump back to desktop.

I get the EXACT same error.. I got mine at the time of my last crash.

I got past the city tiles error by copying the file and putting it in other folders, but I still cant load the game another error comes up instead.....

RESMGR: Scene file Art/Terrain/Lights/UnitLight.nif failed to load. Reason: (code:1) Cannot open file.

Ok - delete everything in the "cache" folder in the Civ 4 directory. That might help.

This might be meaningful...I have no cache directory under C:\Program Files\Firaxis Games\Sid Meier's Civilization 4. Maybe I'll try a reinstall.
