Failed to Initialize Renderer

Please, Please, Please....Can someone help me?!

I have just purchased Civ4 and installed it. BUT when i try to launch the game all i get is this ERROR message:

Initilize Renderer Failed. Check DirectX Installation, Latest Graphics Drivers and Graphics Settings

I am running the game on a 4 year-old computer.
OS = Microsoft Windows XP, Service Pack 2.
AMD Duron Processor.
1.00 GHz, 760 MB of RAM
121GB Free Hard Disk Space
ATI Radeon XIAi9250 Graphic Accelerator

I have read many messages on many different forums and followed the instructions on how to fix this problem but i just can't seem to get the game working. I know it's a great game, but i'm almost at my wits end with this.
So please, please, anyone out there reading this who knows how to fix this, please help me out.

Sounds like your graphics card just doesn't meet the requirement. Probably you did this, but did you patch up to version 1.61? Solved a lot of issues for me.
