Im having this very explicitive deleted problem that, after building up a beautiful empire, the game wont save.

I've played it lots of times before and It all worked fine.

The standard save doesnt work, as well as the autosave, I switched that one on, but there just arent any saves in the directory.

Now I'm forced to run my pc 24/7 please help me quick before my cpu burns down!
:P

hmm not a lot to go on...a few random stabs in the dark...

a couple of quick checks:-

do you have enough hard disk space to save files? Obvious but a possibility ;)

is civ trying to save files in a directory you have deleted? look in civ.ini or ptw.ini it should show the details of the last file saved and where.

how are you looking for save files - via the game or explorer ?
If explorer you may have a file filter on so they don't show try doing a search for files called *.sav from c:\ and see if any appear.

If you need more help please post details of which version you are playing and which windows version - it may help pinpoint the problem. Good luck.

if the directory is "Read Only" this will also prevent the game from saving.

To check, open up your Save Directory, and go one level up. Right click on the directory, and select Properties. If read only is checked, you won't be able to write to that directory. Simply uncheck it, and all should be well.

I had this problem when I started burning my diablo ii saves to take to work. I didn't understand why my map wasn't going over, then I realized that because it came from a cd, it was read only.

Lols it was my hd :D
too bad, when I woke up and I started playing again it turned out that darn pc forgot al my civ advances. Althoug my empire was still the same for some funny reason I couldnt build explicitive deleted because it thought I hadnt invented the wheel !
Ahh well my new civ rocks to thanx to your help :D
