I imagine there's a thread about this poor woman's suicide, but I'm hoping the family wins their lawsuit. The cop was a jerk and his excuse for pulling her over is BS. Kinda like stopping someone for not having a front tag. If I was a judge and cops brought people before me because of that nonsense I'd be angry with the cops. "If" the failure to signal was relevant to another motorist I'd reconsider, but I suspect most cases of failing to signal dont involve other cars. Its like a cop stopping you for crossing the double yellow to avoid a pothole or something.

What is particularly odious about it is that the cop came storming up behind her, so she moved right to get out of his way. So you are absolutely right. It didn't involve another motorist in a situation which might cause an accident.

And setting a $5000 bail is beyond ludicrous. She was punished for being an "uppity" Northerner who did not properly kowtow to a white policeman in Texas.

wow, I didn't know that... I once had a cop tailgate me entering the outskirts of a town where the speed limit drops and pull me over for speeding.

I'd consider applauding if this cop gets fired, but I doubt that'll happen.

Your acceptance that it was a suicide is a level of trust in police that I do not share. It may have been, but there is no particular reason I see to be sure that it was.

What's all the fuss about? This woman is clearly guilty of being black. And the cop is guilty of being a Latino. I say "Throw the book at both of them". Dead or alive.
