Fairy Tale

OK, thanks, VeBear.

De hinner med i nästa uppdatering som kommer i helgen. Jag kommer också att sammanfoga Dwarverna med resten av modden så den inte är modular längre, för det ökar också på moddens prestanda.

The Fairy Tale of The Underworld Lord

At the time of the Resurrection of the old Kingdom Zuur, the Demon King made an evil contest for his most treasured heroes, to see who of them would be best suited to lead his entire army to victory and the destruction of his enemies. Many of the dark heroes of the Western World, participated in that contest.

The Demon Lord spoke to them and said: "That one of you who can return with the heads of twenty slain Trolls from Kharrorch shall be my champion! That Champion shall lead my armies, have the princesses of the East and receive treasure and slaves!"

Twenty heroes set of for the Barbarian lands of Kharrorch, among them, Graena the Great, one of the largest, toughest and most bloodthirsty warriors in all of Zuur. He swore to return with not only twenty heads of dead Trolls, but twenty one. Zimon the Falsehood, another one of Zuur's great warriors, left behind and stayed at his castle for all the contest and the people thought he had surrendered already.

Graena alone fought a squadron of fifty Kharrorch Trolls at the hellish forest of Darkmoor. He slay twenty one while the other trolls fled in terror, and then he stood there howling like a wolfbeast and raised his bloodied axe towards the moonlit sky and yelled out: "Here stands The One! Here stands the greatest warrior of Old Zuur that has come again!" Then he commenced his absurd task of cutting the heads loose from the slain trolls' bodies and he then returned to Zuur to present his victory for the Great Demon King and to claim his title as the Champion of Zuur.

It was a great day in the dark underground throne room of the Demon King. The ceremonial banner had been laid out on the floor upon which it was Zuuri practice to present the heads of the fallen after great victories in war and joust. Champion after champion went forward to the demonic throne and threw the heads of slain trolls before him. Graena not only presented twenty, but twenty one, and stood there proud, the blood still running from the wounds he had received in battle.

The Demon King lastly looked to Zimon the Falsehood and asked: "And you then, my lord? Haven't you got a prize to show?" Zimon stood there smiling in his still shining black armour, impeccably dressed and of good condition with not a single wound on his white body. Then ten of his men carried in the heads of twenty two slain trolls and presented them to the Demon King.

The whole court stood in awe and Graena shouted: "How can this be!? How can you have slain twenty two trolls when you have not a single wound upon your body? Surely you must jest!" Silence fell in the throne room as all awaited Zimon's answer.

"You stupid fools!" Zimon answered and laughed. "I paid men to bring me twenty two heads! I didn't even venture outside the walls of my own castle! Not a single wound came to my body and I still stand here to present the same prize as you others. You simple fools!"

At that time the Demon King stood up, raised his hand and spoke, as the smokes of burning hell poured out from behind the demonic throne and the lights of purgatory shone in the entire room and spread into the city: "Zimon, my lord. You are what I need! You shall be my champion! You shall be my Underworld Lord!"

The problem with the Dwarven leaders is that there are no dwarves in Oblivion and Morrowind, the two most excellent fantasy games in world history I so imaginatively use for leader portraits in Fairy Tale. I therefore also had to create Dwarves to get portraits of them. Oh, to be picky, there are indeed Dwarves in the Elder Scrolls, but their culture (called the Dwemer) died out a long time before the era in which the games are set.

Here are the Dwarves I created. I added a mod that gives beards to Oblivion characters, and the untrained eye will not spot the fact that these blokes are indeed only Nords with beards, but only see the Dwarves they are meant to represent. They will be inclued in Update 8b of Fairy Tale, which will be published in the coming weekend. Left one is Thors, right one is Hafr.

Oh, and veBear, I am waiting with merging the Dwarves with the rest of the mod until Version 9. Version 8b will still have the Dwarves as a modular addition, but they need to be merged, since all their linking is now quite entangled with the rest of the mod. Since there will be atalogue-tree changes, I must wait to do it at Version 9 instead, since 8b only adds stuff to existing folders. I don't want to leave the old Dwarven stuff in its folder while merging it also with the rest of the mod. That could conflict. There is also a city naming error issue with the Dwarves, but it's not game-breaking, but it obviously conflicts with BUG as the Dwarves are modular.

Prince Heir to Gregory Lyssander: Sob. Daddy! You should have been around more! Mummy made me do it! She made me lead the legions to the east and burn villages and kill a hundred thousand men, women and children, lay siege to cities and burn, pillage and destroy. She made me do it, when all I ever wanted to do was to be on "So You Think You Can Dance" and play with my little Chihuahua. You should have been around more daddy! Sob sob.
Oh this just screams "Soap Opera"....

You don't like the idea of mounted mages? I was thinking type Gandalf riding into battle with his arrows of lightning and that sort of stuff. But Battle Mages then, if they're not mounted?
Battle Mages are fine...as far as mounted mages, I would have to look at the unit and see.

I don't think Ivory will be good enough. We could make small "dragon caves" to replace the elephant though. These caves would represent where dragons live and where Dragon Eggs are collected for raising Dragons. Or why not, a Dragon Egg resource straight off.
Yeah that would work...just need to find a suitable graphic.

Yeah! Easy enough to make Skysnake one, two and three too. But I need to call them something else; like Minor Skysnake Spell, Major Skysnake Spell and Superior Skysnake Spell. Nuclear spell is good; but we need another animation.
OK I'll check the database.

Looking forward to your update. :goodjob:

Update 8b

Good news! I submitted this update to StrategyInformer and they had it published just within minutes after I sent it! This means, I'll be using StrategyInformer more frequently and certainly to announce my updated files. The ModDB-page is also useful - and pretty - but StrategyInformer is undoubtedly way faster. It would have taken me until morning to get the file published on ModDB.

Still a lot to do, people. The Dwarves may need more units and I need to produce buttons for several buildings and units as well, and by the next update the Dwarves need to be taken out of modular status and merged with the rest of the mod. Also, we're planning a Dragon-resource that will be added and some other goodies. Work continues...

Yeah. It looks like it, but really, most of the stuff is balancing and tweaks, like the penalty for fighting with cavalry in woods and Zuur's units getting cheaper. This is not one of those big, flashy graphics updates with new castles and loads of units. Nonetheless, this update will have a massive impact because all those small tweaks are all really important.

Playtesting seriously needed. I will have to start a game myself right now...

Indeed. The Dwarven Cavalry isn't quite right. I based it off the Nordic, and also used their model. I bet there are already better ones in the downloads database. I'll have a look.

Fairy Tale Europe

Here's a special map for you all. It's based on Kalevala's huge Europe map (http://forums.civfanatics.com/downloads.php?do=file&id=13943), and contains 18 Fairy Tale Kingdoms slightly tweaked to bear names of Fairy Tale/Mythical nations and have appropriate leaders as well. For an example, Zuur becomes Transylvania led by Dracula on this map. There are Scottish, Viking, Burgundian, Byzantine and Barbary civs, among others.

Guess who plays the role of Albert of Bavaria in this show? A more proper name could have been Ludwig of Bavaria, really, based on the nutter of a king who ruled Bayern in the 19th century and was actually called "The Fairy Tale King".

To install, just put the file in the PrivateMaps folder in your Fairy Tale game catalogue. Choose Play Scenario in the Main Menu, and off you go to Fairy Tale Europe.

It's quite an interesting experiment placing the Fairy Tale fictional civilizations into a real map. I might try your Scandinavian map for one, and one of the Mediterranean too!

The New Death Angel

Those who have seen the Crystallin Death Angel unit before, may have noticed that she hasn't been quite as pretty as you'd come to expect from the Crystallin Matriarchy units. Well, now the Crystallin have a new hero.

Supplied by the master of Female Units, SaibotLieh, these are the pictures of the new Crystallin Death Angel national hero unit! He has converted her from the Online game Atlantica Online by NDOORS Interactive and worked on her extensively to reduce polycount to a reasonable level. She's still pretty high on poly, but she's well worth it, since this is the most beautiful unit to ever enter the Civilization 4 world.

I'm not lying when I tell you that she's the most beautiful unit ever. I have some of the prettiest unit artworks pasted in Fairy Tale, and I know what I am talking about! And I was the first one to download her, and I was the first one to paste her in a mod! ;) The New Death Angel will be included in the next update of Fairy Tale, Version 9.

Read more about her on SaibotLieh's thread and Download link here.

WOW!!! She looks gorgeous! That is a VERY pretty unit.

BTW I wonder what NDOORS Corporation thinks of Civ4 modders gleefully looting their game graphics for their own mods? :dunno:

Yeah. I have seen nothing like her. She's quite something, and so suitable as a Crystallin Death Angel.

Many bigger Civilization 4 mods than ours use stuff from other games. All the way from Dune Wars to Fall from Heaven. They've had downloads in their hundreds of thousands, and noone's been complaining. It's not like we're making money from our mods either

I think the same. Because this is all uncommercial and shouldn't harm them in any way, I hope that NDOORS doesn't mind about this and is happy about the extra advertisment. I just make sure to always make clear that the model is not my own work.

Yes. So do I when I make my leader portraits, for an example. I make them using Oblivion and Morrowind, and it's very important to point that out too. But all the characters portrayed are my own creations within the games, and some of them modded into unrecognizable state as well. I know Fall from Heaven's leaders are copied straight off from another game.

Has anyone tried this mod in Windows XP? Does it work in XP? I have personally tried it in Vista and Win7, but I have no possibility to try it out in XP myself.

I have a commentator on Fairy Tale's ModDB page who claims to have a problem with Fairy Tale and XP. I would like to know whether XP can cause a problem or not.

I run on windows XP, Le Sage. I havent had any real issues besides a slow down in performance on large maps. Still get the occasional mystery crash, but thats been with civ 4 since the beginning.

Thank you kindly, Jennvare. I'll tell him. There's some other problem with it then. Install path perhaps. That one's a classic.

I have a question about the religions. Except the names like (true path) nothing has changed. Even in the civilopedia, there is the description of buddhism and so on. Is the relgion still inw ork, or is something wrong? (i have the newst version of fairy tale, i downloeaded it today)
