Fairy Tale

Spoiler :
All links go to Fairy Tale's ModDB page. Right now, there's only one single file to download, Fairy Tale Version 7. That's the file to download and install if you want to play the game.

Further, there's also a Terrain Patch, which upgrades the looks of the Terrain, but that one is optional as it is only of Aesthetic value. Tomorrow, I will be uploading HighwayHoss' HEFT Patch as well, but that will also be optional.

The two patches, the Terrain and HEFT, will be integrated into Version 8, which I'm working on right now.

Thanks for the update. I was just about to ask. :goodjob:

Just started this Mod out and when I tried to DL 'Highwayhoss' HEFT, I was told didn't exist. Bad link or somethings down..anyhoot GL w/ future of mod, so far it seems fun!

Quick question, any chance of adding in BULL, or is that not in the plans..the BUG options screen is so ..naked w/o the other options.

I actually think HighwayHoss has BULL in his HEFT (phew). I will be uploading HEFT to ModDB when I've checket it all out, so it will be there for download in the near future. Just keep checking ModDB.

Great news! I'll check later for this update :scan:

Thanks for this mod. Good stuff! Are there any recommended mods to the mod?

Thank you kindly.

Actually, there are no mods to this one yet. HighwayHoss is currently working on his mod though, called HEFT, and that will be available soon. He had some things he still wanted to do.

OK Everyone I got HEFT 1.2 ready....download here, than simply merge the Folder marked "Fairy Tale" with your "Fairy Tale" folder in the BtS/Mods folder; overwrite when prompted.

Excellent news. Have you checked its stability and does it work as you hoped? I can't check it quite yet.
Oh yes...I've been keeping a test file in my mods folder for just this very purpose....it should work fine; but if there are any problems give me a message and I'll check it.

Some highlights:
  1. Considerable trait tweaking. Traits are extensively redone; used some python goodies from the database. Feedback is welcomed here. (BTW I haven't fully updated the Civopedia entries yet but I will when I get a chance).
  2. Tweaked the promos; Attack promos reduce withdrawl chance while Defence promos increase; all Adventurer promos now have new buttons! :goodjob:....also check out the Berzerker promo..now you can create suicide units....:D
  3. Lots of little tweaks and adjustments.

Possible ideas for future updates:
  • Looking at JustATourist's JARM mod for adding extra religions, use some of them for yours; Drudism just begs to be the Tree for example. Maybe preassign religions to certain civs like the Order of the Eagle (BTW how did you preassign that religion anyway? Python or XML?)
  • Resources; either modify the XML file to prevent unused resources from being generated or find ways to integrate them; Uranium could be Mana for example or Aluminum could be some magical metal...use as prereqs for magically enhanced units....and speaking of which...
  • New goodies from the Mad Scientist's workshop...I saw units in the database which can make for all sorts of exotic new toys from the workshop....:mwaha:
  • New World,New Civs; StrategyOnly has a large number of fantasy civs in his database...I was looking at the lizard clans especially; had the idea of Lizards inhabiting a separate continent to the east and making contact with the Fairy Tale civs....leading to all sorts of mayhem...
  • Add new random events with Fairy Tale flavor...

OK feedback would be appreciated on this ModMod..

is there another link to this mod? the link isnt working
Yeah I checked it the link is OK but Filefront is being wonky.

FYI Le Sage just sent me the files of his 7a patch; I just finished merging HEFT with his patch and sent him the merged files; I have the 7aHEFT update ready but I want to wait until Le Sage offically announces his patch before I release it. I've been playing it and it works fine so far.
So what's in the patch?...sorry but I'll leave that announcement to Le Sage; it is his mod after all. :)

Excellent, HighwayHoss. I'll be doing my own checking today and publishe the updated file online if all goes well tonight. Then it should be available tomorrow morning (my time - 24 hours from when this message is published, approx). I think we need to update Fairy Tale to Version 8, since it will then also include and merge with HEFT.

Thanks very much, Le Sage; I hope you like what I did in HEFT. I tried to make the traits more interesting and balanced especially.....some might think they are somewhat powerful but I figured this is a Fairy Tale, not a historical sim. Be sure to check the new buttons for adventurer promos; I made some of them myself with Paint.NET.

OK time for bed; gotta work tomorrow.

Oh before I forget:
Spoiler :
I played a test game with the new Civ; it was great! This new Civ really kicks ass! Love those new leaders; personally I like these leader pics better than the standard Civ4 ones. I did notice one thing I found annoying, but it has nothing to do with the Mod; its something I always found annoying in Civ4 and I am going to do something about it in my next HEFT update. (HINT: it has to do with resource requirements).

Hope to see version 8 so I wont have to download alot of things. Keep up the good work, guys.

Version 8

Summer is supposedly a low season for modding, but here comes Fairy Tale's roaring V8!

This update contains a whole new Civilization, called The Black Banner, some corrections and also finally integrates HighwayHoss' HEFT-package, which comes with a lot of tweaks and work in areas previously untouched by the mod. This is indeed starting to live up to its name as a Total Conversion. Also integrated, is the Better Landscape, finally, which makes the game look better on your screen than in my screenshots!

Now get off that boring summer beach and start playing Fairy Tale instead. Enjoy!

Installation

NOTE: If you have a previous installation of Fairy Tale, it is advised that you delete that install before installing this new one.

Unpack and just drag-n'-drop the Fairy Tale folder found within the .zip to your Mods folder in the Beyond the Swords folder. Do NOT put it in the MyGames folder. To run, in the Civ Main Menu, choose "Advanced", then "Load a Mod" and pick Fairy Tale in the list. Off you go!

Just delete the previous version of Fairy Tale before installing the new. Also, if you have saved games going, finish them before the install of V8, since this invalidates saved games.

Changelog

V8 Update, June 21, 2010

*It is now possible for the player to become a vassal of another Kingdom. This has certain interesting strategic elements to it, so that's why it was implemented. It is furthermore to be considered quite experimental.
*The AI will now be more aggressive when attacking cities. Lowered its reluctance to just charge in!
*Added a new scenario, A Military History of the Principality, based on a story of mine. Further, did work on The Elven Civil War scenario, which wasn't quite working out before.
*The King, the Royal Prince and the Crystallin Matriarch are not born instead of Great Generals anymore.
*Forts have been weakened substantially. They now give a 30% defense bonus.
*Fixed the Battleship. It's no longer useless, but rather, the Ruler of The Seas, as should be.
*Gave the Zuur a Spear/Pikeman; he's something in between a Spearman and a Pikeman, in fact.
*Added a new Kingdom, The Black Banner, of course complete with all the things that should be.
*Merged with HighwayHoss' Enhanced Fairy Tale (HEFT). The ReadMe for HEFT is included in the Fairy Tale folder. This update comes with a whole lot of new work in areas like Civics, Promotions, traits and has other tweaks and additions that make Fairy Tale an even better game. Thanks goes to HighwayHoss for his work on HEFT.

Yeah. I was going to upload it to StrategyInformer too. Their moderation is usually much quicker these days, but I had problems getting it over there, so SI will have to wait till another day.

Fairy Tale 8 will be on ModDB tomorrow morning European time.

Actually, I am from Finland. Swedish is my first language, Finnish my second and English only ranks as third.

I chose the name Le Sage, because of the French king Charles V in the 1300's who was also called "The Wise", Le Sage. He was a ruler to my liking. Very intelligent; he threw the English out of France and at the same time headed a formidable golden age in French history with culture and science. He restored France.
