Kael would it be possible to have your resource directory be set to "\Beyond the Sword\FfH032Resource"?

if possible this would make it a little easier to keep track of mods and would also lessen the dent that multiple mods make on the free space on your drive. as I don't think most people realize that multiple copies of your resources aren't needed and in fact take up a fair ammount of space. Also it would allow people to rename their FfH directory without causing the game to crash.

Ok as is sits I can move all of the resource files except the Civ4.thm file, if I edit the Civ4.thm file and change the location of the resources. However the Civ4.thm file seems to be referenced by another file. Is this in the sdk? Could you move that file to be a relative path? or th sit in a directory like I suggested outside the mod directory?

Just as a point of policy FfH never touches files outside of the "Fall from Heaven 2 032" directory. We want to be as clear as possible and don't want ot be dumping files in other locations that could effect the main game/other mods/etc.

That also makes sure that if I make a mistake I cant mess up anything outside of that directory. And make the wrapping process very simple, since I just grab that directory.

Changing that process just to save 18 meg for players that want to keep multiple versions of FfH (though Im not sure why anyone would really want to do that) doesnt seem worthwile.

As to your 2nd question. Im not sure if anyone ever tested have a mod load a customer resource that wasnt in its own mod directory. Theoretically I would expect it to work, like you said. But Ive never tried it.

Thank you for the response Kael. I understand your feelings.

but a quick question

I have moved all of the resources out to the directory specified in the first post except the Civ4.thm file, could you tell me where this is referenced? as it seems that this is the only file that I can't seem to move without the crash issue.

Thank you Kael. Now just to figure out why it doesn't like having a relative path instead of an absolute one.

Kael, a thought occured to me the other day semi-related to this.

You haven't used a "smart installer" program that can detect in the registry where someone has installed Civ and allow them to change the directory if needed. As I understood it this was to keep them from changing the name of the Fall from Heaven 2 032 for the mod, which is required to be precise for the .thm's.

If you set up the installer to install to the MODS folder though, instead of the Fall from Heaven 2 032 folder, then they cannot possibly rename it, and you can safely use a registry scan to assist in proper installation targets.

This would of course install nothing into the Mods folder itself other than Fall from Heave 2 032, but it keeps them from renaming that folder in the same way they would be unable to rename Assets or XML (because it is nested).

EDIT: Foot in Mouth Much? While installing the patch I realized that this IS the location you install to. So I got no clue anymore.

What does FfH actually change in the Resource Directory anyway? Playing with the HUD I started to wonder if I could completely make that directory obsolete by replacing everything with TGA and DDS files. I'll have to do a comparison to see what the beef is sometime.
