Fall From Heaven 3

what's wrong with the replay value? unless you only ever play one civ, you should almost NEVER run out of things to do. there's 21 unique civs, 7 unique religions, and a whole heap of wonders and world improvements... if you don't include the wonders and map variances, theres 147 different games to play right there.
Personally, I also think that the new game options and scenarios added much, much more gameplay value than more customisability. That can be modded by hand anyway without a lot of fuss.

Cheers, LT.

Don't worry people, even if Kael and the FfH crew don't wish to continue the FfH line, I am sure the FF crew would be more than happy to .(sorry if I'm wrong) :)

I think this is a fine idea WaKKO151. A Civ/leader editor would add much
to the game of civ. And I think it would be great for a mod like FfH2.

FfH2 is superior to the game it was built on. The Team did a great job of taking advantage of the modding potential. FfH2 has more depth of play than civ$. Its simply a superior game. But beyond their coding creativity, and Kael's leadership, they also created a rich interesting world. So even if the Team were not involved, the mod would still make for a good standalone game. I wouldn't trust firaxis/2k to make the game though... not without some core changes to the way they do business.

I'll agree with that much. Having an "Create a Leader" screen combined with Advanced Start allows you to create start positions and game experiences as you wish them - great fun overall.

The problem is that I don't see how that has anything to do with commercialization. It could be sold as a stand alone and people would buy it, but that's not going to happen. It was created because the team wanted to create it, not so they could make money. I believe they actually won money in a mod-contest at one point, then donated it to charity. Commercialization is not the same as success.

As the main mod is now in feature-lock and is essentially finished, adding that sort of screen is probably down to other modders (of which there are quite a few). The biggest obstacle to that happening however isn't the difficulty of implementation (it's hard, but there are some excellent modders in this community and I have no doubt it's possible) - but the aggressive way in which it was demanded. It's a good idea, it could be refined further and implemented - but to do that you have to present it as an idea, work with a few people and get some feedback. Once there's an agreement on how it should work, you may be able to get someone to take a shot at it. Or even try to do it yourself.

Offering to pay vague amounts of money for someone to implement an idea that is only vaguely defined isn't going to work out how you want it - and the assumption that someone will instantly start working on it because there is money involved is way off base.

My thoughts on this came with the knowledge that the FfH Team is finished with the mod beyond the polish. I'm just watering seeds here. Seeds that fall beyond the team. Shortly after the release of civ$ I have been dropping suggestions here at CFC for firaxis to release a civ/leader editor as part of an expansion pack... or a patch if their feeling generous. And I would like to see, and think there is potential, for Fall From Heaven to grow beyond the mod. So be it done by community or commercial interests, I support those things.

One aspect of the money offering... perhaps the thinking was that the offer might help tilt a decision balance by offsetting some of the time sacrifice with a small monetary gain. Like for someone looking for a temporary part-time job. I think it would be cool for someone to be able to upgrade their hardware/software, or buy groceries, by donations received from working on a community project. I was more than happy to donate to the FfH Team... for whatever they wanted to use it for... though it made me smile that perhaps donations could help fund family vacations, or a team get-together, to make up for some of the family time they freely gave to us. I do think offering money is a bit misguided, but I think it well intentioned and its a nice idea.

If you want to give money to the team, donate to UNICEF.

I think somewhere along the line my orignal post was misinterupreted. i was not offering to pay money for someone to make a mod. The statement made about money was to imply that if this game was offered commercially I would buy it. Other then that, just wondering what the next step in FFH is going to be not thtere needs to be one right now. And the idea for a Create a Unit, Create a Leader, Create a Civ, were just MY logical next steps.

Well just wanted to clear that up. =)

Actually it's 140 max, since Infernals can only adopt AV and Mercurians can only adopt everything except AV. Also, not all civs play that differently with different religions... For example, RoK Luchruip and OO Luchruip play very differently, but RoK Luchruip and Empyrean Luchruip are very similar. Despite this, there is still a substantial variety.

/end nitpick
