Fall patch

THIS. It bothers me a lot that I have to receive 6gpt from a luxury that is actually worth 8gt... even then, there are some AIs that will offer 5gpt and only 6 if you change it. It took me a bit to realise they could give me 1gpt more. At least make it 7gpt :(

I've never gotten better than 6 gpt for a resource or paid less than 8 gpt to buy one, playing on King and Epic for the most part. This AI does not understand a fair deal, even though it seems to insist upon them for itself. If that was the AI's worst flaw, I could live with it, but it's otherwise passive nature is driving me to distraction.

I would love it if there was a building or two that helped spawn great generals/admirals. Right now, unless you are a warmonger, you really don't get to play with these GP, whereas every other type of GP at least has the possibility of being built through various buildings. But that probably won't happen in a patch ;)

When do we roughly expect the fall patch?

Apart from the obvious... being "fall" (or autumn, but rather spring in my corner of the world). I mean that is anywhere from 21 sept. to 21 dec. depending on your interpretation (I know I know we've had these debates a million and one times).

But I was thinking, does anyone remember how long after G&K a patch was released??
That may be a more useful way of estimating a release date.

Edit: it seems it was 1 November 2012.
Here's the thread about last year's "fall patch": http://forums.civfanatics.com/showthread.php?p=11954666#post11954666

Try doing some bargaining. One of my allies tried duping me out of a lux deal by offering only 5gpt, i asked for another 30 gold in exchange and he agreed, saying i am generous which makes me think that i can get more in exchange.

I would just be happy if a future patch added the Wonders of the Ancient World (even though I already bought it when it was released) so I don't have to turn it off every time for HOF games. I would also like to see a few more DLC civs, namely Vietnam and Nicaragua.

Water AI

I firmly believe that is the biggest need of change. If naval combat was as fluid as land and if AI were able to better attack your cities (and do it more often) then water maps and thus replay value would be 1000x better

What's wrong with Japan?
Play it and compare to any other civ. Or if so inclined, do the math! Japan is the second weakest nation (Denmark takes bottom place). Its very clear they need some love.

I'd like a Denmark revamp, but certainly don't expect it and definitely isn't urgent.

Please fix multiplayer...please fix multiplayer...

Hey, a guy can dream, right?

Hmm. Is Japan really that bad? I only really played them pre-GK but thought their UA was pretty beastly. The Zero was useless, though. Germany I always wanted overhauld so that's good. My want for an American overhaul has increased now since my mods don't work and I can't play my American Domination mod :(. Oh well.
They were pretty strong pre-G&K because melee units were generally strong at taking cities & Bushido was awesome because wounded units had more severe combat penalty (50% at 1HP IIRC). Now melee units don't work that well against cities & wounded units only suffer 33% penalty max so Bushido is weaker now. Overall Japan got nerfed heavily, Bushido being passive ability might be subject to change.

i listened to the Polycast, and my interpretation is that they didn't feel Bushido is necessarily weak, its that it doesn't alter your playstyle, and its effects aren't directly visible. So for a moment ignore how "good" or "bad" all UAs are:

For example with Bushido, you don't change your play by attacking. It just means they attack harder. Strategically this alters you to play more aggressive, but the way you play doesnt change. Contrarily with venice, you must play the game different than everyone else (regardless of strategy). You dont build settlers like everyone else, you buy out citystates. Changes the type of play in addition to the strategy. Also with Polynesia, you get to actually do something different with your UA. You get to travel where no one else can that early. Again, ignoring how good or bad it is, it changes the way you play them. Also with them you get a whole new improvement that, regardless of how good or bad it is, makes something unique and forces you to play different.

I think thats what they're going for with a change for Japan. While fighting at full strength even at a sliver of health is a benefit, it just adds numbers to an attacker, something that isn't "seen" by the player, and doesnt change how the game is played by Japan.

They mentioned how they want to include Japan's isolationist history and how they retained their own culture even with outside influenced trying to push in.

And they were falling behind the rest of the world in every aspect when Tokugawa enacted his isolationist policy until the Meiji restoration. Same thing with Korea, or as they were known back then, the Hermit Kingdom. And things didn't go too well for China when they decided to bunker down and separate from the rest of the world.

I think it'll be really cool if there is an isolationist mechanic implemented: something like if your civ is isolated, you won't be affected by other's civs' tourism, but at the same time, you fall behind in everything, like a minus -science, -gold, -production and -food when you are isolated.

I’d like to see Germany re-envisioned being an industrious nation. I mean common, who hasn’t heard of German Engineering!!! I also still like their military focused UU’s given their role in WWI and WWII. However, the UA of being able to afford a large military is rather dated given BNW.

Here is what I’d love to see for Germany:
UA: 75% Great Engineer points generation in Capital.
UU: Panzer
UU: V1 rocket: “early ICBM” with less range.

What I hope for:

1) Tourism is fun overall, but I really hope for some benefit from early Tourism. The fact that you are the first civ to build Parthenon or get very early Great Works, and do not get much from it? I really feel being the first (or one of the first) civs to get Tourism should give a tangible (if not too overwhelming) bonus. As it is, the extra 2 Tourism over tens of turns changes pretty much nothing, seeing as the whole accumulated Tourism from those early Great Works is about as much as you can get in two-three turns (at most) in late game.
2) Tweaks to civs from vanilla, especially America and Germany.
3) Modding in multiplayer, oh God, please finally make modding in multiplayer possible...
4) More involved vote trading for Congress and/or smarter voting AI (to eliminate things like "everybody votes for themselves to hold Congress, even though it means the civ with the most votes will win, anyway". This makes sense for a Pirates of the Caribbean movie, but not for a Civ game).
5) Autocracy buff, because, well, even the AI realises it's a pretty weak ideology.

I don't know how many of these have a chance of being changed, but these are the most major ones in my book.

EDIT: oh! I forgot, there are also two slightly more minor ones:

1) Another use for Great Admirals. I've seen a lot of people say they are underpowered, and I haven't seen anyone calling them OP.
2) The introduction of Canals (personally I think this would mesh well with 1), seeing as Great Admirals could have a special ability to build a Canal). Seeing as some map types (Fractal) have 2-width stretches of land, Canals would be very welcome and very fun. Whether they are a new improvement, or just a new function of Forts a'la Civ 4 doesn't really matter to me.

Unfortunately the way BNW is working out, once a civ falls quite behind, there are no chances for that civ to catch up.

I'm still dreaming for the day they get that AI fixed. Last game about 6 civs were in a war against 1, and I happened to capture the last city. I effectively wiped Assyria off the planet and returned the city to Poland. When I checked my diplomacy everyone thought I was the "warmongering menace to the world". The Shoshone were in fact, the most aggressive civ in the game who took the most city from Assyria. That last city was the only one I took over. I didn't wage any war before, just wanted to make a lesson to the neighborhood bully and now I am the threat around you?

Now we have something called the "World Congress". When we have problems we should discuss it collectively, not hating on a civ you don't like. The AIs declare war on me and they get so dramatic when I try to retaliate. I'd be happier if I play with a more rational AI.
