Fallout: New Vegas

Though I do like the game. I found it to be little improvement over FO3. No that it isnt a bad thing. Bottom line fun by kinda stale. Graphics wise I almost see no difference The mods that I have for FO3 they look identical but New Vegas hogs the comp more. But More or less I cant wait for all the cool mods that people will make.

My friend played this all day yesterday and is playing it all day today and has only had a single CTD and no bugs. It looks pretty sweet and better than F3. I look forward to getting the GOTY edition.

Yes it is very similar to Fallout 3, but the setting is in my home town (and area), so I had to get it.

For the record I'm not a big fan of mods and dlc. Who cares about weapon mods? Is this an action game or an rpg? I can care less about reloading ammo or crafting weapons. I'm still not sure how to do that. Is there someplace convenient I can go to see what parts I need? It seems like I don't need schematics like in Fallout 3 or am I mistaken?

So far the game seems kind of linear, at least if you follow the main quest path and do the associated sidequests for each area. It seems even more linear than Fallout 3, which I find a little disappointed. There are no heavy rpg elements as quests don't have that many resolutions. Dialogue trees are fairly simple with again no multiple ways to talk to a person. As far as I can tell there are very few evil dialogue options and they seem to have no effect on your reputation in town or with that character. The good thing for rpg fans is the story seems pretty cool so far. I like the legionaires they seem like cool bad guys. I actually get tired of super mutants etc (although I'm sure they are in the game somewhere). Finally a different kind of bad guy. Modelled after Ceasar and the romans. Kind of interesting so far.

I am disappointed it's more like an action game rather than an rpg, but I will finish the game. The setting is very cool indeed. I recognize all the names in the game. Although some locations were made up for story purposes. They have a town called Novac which doesn't actually exist. And Searchlight seems to have been taken out of the game.

You start off in Goodsprings. I acutally went to 1st grade in Goodsprings Elementary (the only school in town). So that school you see in the game (infested with insects) is the school I went to for one year as a kid. Although I don't remember it like that :D, and I think it was closer to the main road. But goodsprings does look kind of similar to how it does in real life.

So far No crashes to desktop. This game is actually more stable than Fallout 3. Although fallout 3 I played unpatched as the patch would cause problems with games for windows live which I tried to update, but it wouldn't update properly. I've had problems with games for windows before and Windows 7 (with a game called the Witcher). I hate games for windows. All hail steam!! You guys complain about steam constantly, but steam is not that bad. It actually works compared to games for windows.

So unpatched New Vegas> unpatched Fallout 3 imho. But there are some slowdowns in areas with lots of NPC's enemies. I've had a few stuttering problems. So other than some slowdowns, no problems whatsoever for me. Not a single crash or game or quest stopping bug. I have the PC version btw (the only way to play)

Downloading patch right now. That is the only downside of steam, I want to actually play, but have to wait for the patch. My connection is only like 250 k a second, so it isn't that fast. I hope the patch doesn't make my save games not work, or I'd be really pissed. I already invested all day yesterday into the game. A lot of time so far.

Damn, got hit by the save bug. After noting above the game hasn't crashed on me (fallout 3 crashes on me frequently).

All the progress I had today since my above post seems to be lost. :(

edit: I tried a recovery found in the forums for my autosave, but that doesn't seem to work. Thankfully I found a save where I didn't lose too much (maybe 15 minutes). don't rely on auto or quick saves!

That's why I constantly save my games in New Vegas now. Fortunately I only lost an hour of game play.

playing on 360. no crashes so far. I like the iron sights. Still haven't figured out the reloading. I've been following the main quest and only diverting to sites I can see from the road. My children tell me that deathclaws are wicked.

Vault 22 was a pita. Finally got there stands the grass quest.

Spoiler :
turns out I was trying to hide in the wrong doorway when igniting the gas. You actually hide in the room you download the files from, not the one down the hall. And as long as you don't stand too close to the door you'll be okay. I must have burned to death 25 times before I figured that one out

@Azale, Princescamp

It would be nice if I had my PS 3 avaliable for hundreds of hours :p

I'll get it soon I suppose though, my fingers are twitchin for it

Vegas has pretty much everything 3 was lacking, there are numerous human settlements all with the ability to remember your trespasses (you can also dress in the disguises of factions) and the gameplay has really been rebalanced. I'm not sure if the map is larger or smaller than Fallout 3's, but it's definitely packed with far more useful things to explore, more people, and ASSLOADS of quests. Also unlike the 3, you don't have to work with all those lame butthurt moralfags in the Brotherhood and although I haven't finished, I'm pretty sure there are four different endings. (You can side with the NRC, Caesar's Legion, Mr. House, or take Hoover Dam and Vegas for yourself.)

VATS is no where near as overpowered as it was in Fallout 3; you can really get clobbered while in VATS and accordingly I usually use it less and rely on melee weapons (there is a new extremely powerful perk "Super Slam" that allows any melee weapon to knock down enemies).

All the ammo crafting and food cooking is pretty useless though. There just isn't a need to go out of your way to find ingredients to make useless food, and ammo is relatively plentiful.

My Xbox has crashed several times and I experience annoying slowing or pausing when the computer renders places like Hoover Dam. Load times are unbearable; I think about quititing every time, but once I'm back in the game everything's good. Also on my first file I think I glitched my relations with several factions and the quest tagging is awkward and bugged, but maybe it's because I did everything in an inconsistent order.

Plentiful ammo and health is one of the things I complained about for Fallout 3. It sort of broke that "roaming the abandonned wastelands while scrounging" feel. Well I see they haven't changed that... :(

There definitely is less stimpacks/med than there were in Fallout3. There used to be so many first aid boxes you could open in fallout3. They still have them here, but not as much stuff in them. I only have like 5 radaway. Compared to fallout 3 where I had 20 by about the same time in the game.

Ammo is also very hard to find, at least for energy weapons like I use. Luckily with all the human settlements mentioned above you can usually find someone selling.

Money used to be a problem until I got to New Vegas. :D. With a luck of 8, I kick some serious ass in Blackjack. And yes I got the achievement to be banned from all the strip casinos. I now have like 40000 caps. So money to buy ammo shouldn't be a problem anymore.

Actually ammo is cheap, it's getting your gear repaired at mojave outpost that is real expensive. He can repair to 100%, but it can be very pricey.

I'm wondering if this game has the stupid SecuROM that limits installation like Spore.

I gotten it through retail (I know I can get it via steam, but I cant be arsed in waiting to download it). Though in a strange supprise, I gotten the Classic Pack.

Though I do wish there was a way to import my keybinds from Fallout 3 into New Vegas.

And Simon, wait for some mods then :)

If you don't like the orange, you can always try Fellout for NV. I used the original Fellout for FO3 and it's great if you dont like the vanilla tint (FO3 had a greenish and NV had a orangey tint)

I did see how the devs took and used some of the ideas from the modding community. I like FNV. But there is something there I can't place that would make me crazy for it. Maybe Ill wait another month and see what mods are out. I will be getting the fellout mod for FNV. I loved it for FO3.Hmmmmm maybe they will bring that prostitute mod to FNV :goodjob::king:

Is this a new game altogether?

I loved Fallout 3 until I hit the level 20 cap. I was shocked and lost all interest in the game. Part of the fun of the game for me was getting new abilities and leveling up while exploring the "sandbox." (Isn't that part of the fun in all of these games?) I even bought the DLC that extended it to 30 so I could keep going, but I stopped playing shortly thereafter.

Is there a cap here too?

Does the PC version still have the same stupid , cumbersome console-interface Obliovion and Fallout 3 had ?
It wouldn't be a deal-breaker, but I find it very irritating when a game's UI is wasting my time.
