Famous Korean civ youtuber discusses Sejong controversy.

I can't stop thinking: Give an inch and he'll take a yard, and the morale being: Never try to please the fans.

If Korea is always represented by Sejong, it would mean Korea only had one good leader and only had one good period, therefore remaining represented as a oneshot minor civilization. Having Seondeok was a great idea: it made people learn more about Korean history and get more recognition. Don't you want people to know how deep Korea history is?

Imagine if Russia was always represented by Stalin. In the end, Russia would be the token Communist civilization, and people will assume Russia was nothing before, and nothing after that period. Having some Tsar like Peter or Catherine made people realize that Russia is more than caricatural communist state.
It applies to every civilization. Imagine England being stuck as the colonial civilization. Or France as the European warmonger. Or Japan as the "Samurai" one. Or India being the "Gandhi" one. Or Greece being the "Alexander" one. It would be bland and tiresome. Hopeful, this have never happened, and would never happen!..

What Koreans are upset is that there seemed to be zero effect in making Sejong... especially compared to its East Asian neighbors- China and Japan.

Well, it is clear what Koreans must do. Boycott Civ VII and demand that Korea not be represented in it.

That'll teach Firaxis to offend the sensitivities of the illustrious Daehanminguk. 🙃

Can you say they have put same effort in creating Sejong compared to Yongle and Tokugawa?

Meh. As a Canadian, I am not offended by the cheesiness that is Canada. Hockey rinks giving culture? Actually farming tundra? Lol. 😂

I just laugh it off. Canada is still very fun to play with great music. ❤

It's just a game, anyway. Some people act like it's life or death, sadly, though. That's what hypernationalism does. 😥
I agree, Canada is agreat civ because its unique. Many civs are like that and exploiting them for victory is just part of what makes civ so entertaining.

I like Canada, but the feeling that it lacks something... half game civilization, but it's a matter of taste. Perhaps creating national parks on coastal tiles and lakes would help her a little

Well, I played what I "thought" was one of the weaker leaders to start trying out the builder pack (Sejong). But him being weaker doesn't seem to be the case for me. I am literally having the game of my life. I eclipsed 100 science by turn 65 roughly. I had no special natural wonder to give more science. I am doing some of the more OP game modes (monopolies, heroes, secret societies, barb clans). I'm already 6 techs ahead of the deity AI in the classical era. I think obviously, some of my great run is just attributed to half price campuses and Korea's strong abilities.

However, I question if he is really the weaker Korea. My first burst of culture was 110, My second burst of culture was about 310. That's quite a bit. I unlocked divine right 3-4 turns into the medieval era, which is solid for a science game. That was also with hitting feudalism first. I really don't know if 3% passive culture per governor title in a single city is as good as these culture burst to be honest. I mean the late push in science is all related to getting to key civics like globalization early. So, the bursts are feeling pretty good so far. But as I said, I am also just having a good/lucky run in general.

I don't think anybody claimed he would be weak. He was by default going to be strong because of the science production of the civ in the first place. I think all the leaders in this pack are strong, but Sejong is definitely the most bland one to play as.

Honestly, I’m surprised that there is an underground cabal of Koreans that are holding an emergency meeting as to the fate of the nation when Sejongs nice but boring ability was revealed.

When I told my mum about Scotlands representation in Civ, she said “what’s Civ VI, honey?”

That being said, please no to Victoria as an alt leader :)

That would be a surprise, indeed, if they reveal Victoria’s persona is not a persona, but an alt. for Scotland.

I’m pretty sure it won’t happent (alt.’s are cheaper in effort than personas, so they will surprise us saying they’ve done less work and that won’t be a nice surprise), but it would indeed be a shocker if it did.

I mean I might do that personally, as in have her be for Scotland as well as England. :mischief:

That perfectly represents those massive Canadian cities in the Arctic, so I'm happy now!
Wait that's not supposed to represent the Inuit? :mischief:;)
