Well this thread combines Matrix' farewell to the Civ 2 Moderator/Administrator job, as well as posting Matrix' final GOTM processing for Civ 2  ...

Matrix, as most probably know by now, has decided to concentrate on Civ 3, where he will still be the GOTM Mod/Admin.

For the newer players that may not know, Matrix was the one that developed and evolved the GOTM system over the last year and a half. The success of the Civ 2 GOTM led into the expansion to Civ 3. Even with the onslaught of Civ 3, the Civ 2 GOTM has survived and is doing well! Matrix' work and spreadsheet not only help us players, but will help our new Civ 2 GOTM Mod/Admin, duke of Marlbrough (who will process GOTM017's results).

So we're sorry to see you go, but understand time and interest limitations! You can now stop in and play a Civ 2 GOTM once in a while as a working-class player ;).........

Thanks for all your work, and keeping Civ 2 going since the Advent of Civ 3!!

:goodjob:

PS, Matrix did not want a separate thread for his going away, so therfore he gets one combined with his last Admin duty results ;)....

And speaking of results, we have five different award winners this month:

GOTM 016 RESULTS

Bronze - Smash
Silver - Chofritz
Gold - Starlifter

Blue Star - mercurios (high score)
Green Star - Xanana Gusmão (fastest finish)

GR Gold Cup Holder: Smash

Congratulations to all who played GOTM 016 !!!

Here is Matrix Going Away Post:
Hello Civ2 Game of the Month players!

I'm sorry it took so long, but the results of the GOTM XVI of May are finally done.

Starlifter made a nice return: immediately he takes the gold medal. Apparently he hasn't unlearned the game. ;) He is followed by Chofritz (silver medal) and Smash (bronze medal). Smash's performance is slightly enough to come back on the top in the Global Ranking with Lucky only 0.1 points behind him. Furthermore, mercurios got the blue star for highest score and Xanana Gusmão got the green star/fastest finish.

This is the last GOTM of which I've made the results. Since Civ3 came out I've lost interest in Civ2, so it has become more like a burden on my shoulders. But from now on, Duke of Marlbrough will take over. I'll still do the GOTM for Civ3.

Thanks again for all your work for us, Matrix!

 :king:

BTW, Welcome to Duke of Marbrough as the new Civ 2 GOTM Admin/Mod!

PS, People may post a "Going Away Note" for Matrix below if they want! :)

For Everyone: Don't forget to look at your own game and the games of others (teh archives file), and make a few suggestions for the GOTM 016 Special Awards!

Remember, you don't even need to have played the GOTM to suggest an award and/or category! Even you websurfers that are reading this can make nominations!! ;)

Here is the link.

If we can get the nominations in by Tuesday Night or so, we'll have the result by the end of the week :).

Bye Matrix!

...

Ok, some more things.
It´s not a real bye, since I´m one of the very few Civ2 players to also play the Civ3 GOTM! :yeah:

Concerning the results, I knew I had a terrible start, at least techwise. But it has to happen once in a while.
Anyway, 0.1 points is really very close, but I´m not even sure if I have time for this months GOTM so Smash´s lead might even grow further. And if Starlifter continues his run, he´ll take over soon anyway. :p

Hmm, what´s left of last month, is the first month without any Civ2 GOTM award for me. I hate those real time constraints!!!

Anyway, congrats to all.
:D

...Smash´s lead might even grow further. And if Starlifter continues his run, he´ll take over soon anyway.
Last month, I just flat ran out of time, and ended early. And this month, Starlifter ain't doing much but gettin' stuck in the mud, compared to Smash!!! I posted a long timeline for anyone who's interested, but the game is quite inferior to what Smash is accomplishing! For those that have not started (without giving anything away here), I just recommend you begin trade early, as always (I did not  and am paying for it, literally!). And just remember that barb setting is not Raging, too... no 150g mines roaming around to plunder. :(

Lucky, you and Chofritz have a chance of catching Smash for the GR, but after reading his posts a moment ago, my money is on Smash & his game (mine's turning out "OK" but not great or fantastic) ;). Good luck to all you GOTMers, BTW!

Gee, thanks for the goodbye, starlifter. :o ...Emm, well, let me say that the reason the GOTM became like this was also because I simply love statistics - who on Earth loves statistics?! - and the GOTM is one of the best sources of data which lends itself perfectly for some working up. :yeah:

But two GOTM's is simply too much. Especially since - argh, there he goes again  - my girlfriend is back. And I wanna get some more points for my study too actually.

Oh, and one last thing: Civ3 was the thing that got me here in the first place. I searched for Civ3 with Yahoo! and that brought me to CivFanatics.com; http://civ.strategy-gaming.com back then. ;) And with Thunderfall searching every piece of information about Civ3 and posting it at CivFanatics, I had all the info I wanted. A few days later he opened this big forum and I registered to talk actually only about Civ3. Yet the idea of a GOTM was so appealing to me I immediately volunteered to administrate it. (Haven't I said this before? )

(Haven't I said this before?)
I personally didn't know that story... :D But then, I was not here when the whole GOTM thing was first started. Hey, don't forget to come on by and play a Civ 2 game every so often, ya hear?!

Matrix (& all of the other folks at CFC),

Thanks for the good work you've done, and the foundation for the good work that others will do. :goodjob:

Starlifter, I want to nominate Dimitris for the first “rooked” award -- his score seems to be a bit off (maybe just a typo) -- He has ample score plus & achieved it far earlier than I did, yet ‘officially’ I beat him by 2 points -- somehow I don’t think so.

I have some similar awkwardnesses this month too (only one weekend home this month). I think that it will affect how detailed my log will be & some of the quality of play. :o It may affect how long I play as well (which might even improve the score, LOL).

Thank you Matrix for the countless hours of tedious number entering.Sorry to hear that whore Civ3 has stolen your heart from the pure and virtuous Civ2.She'll be waiting when you see the light.....

Don't bet on it. I have seen the light. :p It's time you do too.

(I'm on dangerous grounds now... :satan: )
