Fastest space win

Was someone who just got a 15XX game on diety...

I got 1600 on Monarch with Huayna Capac. Rush one or two civs with quechuas, expand like crazy. I managed to get Genetics with Liberalism (although I could've gotten a tech worth as many beakers earlier).

My best space win was on Monarch/Huge map.
1814AD with Willem van Oranje on a 2 continents map. Allthough I think I must add the fact that I use Full_Resources maps. While I use standard number of resources I've turned mountains/Ice/Tundra and Desert off, so this ofcourse helps me and the AI, which turns the tech rate up.

Fastest I have had is 1868... that was on Emperor though and I didn't focus on winning as early as I could have (was shooting for domination initially and my home continent was just under the limit). I also don't like space very much nor am I very good at it).

ok, apparently holding all the land for oneself seems optimal(that without microing and while overbuilding like I always do when getting in lazy mode - that was immortal and I start thinking deity might be faster). Corps seem the key, and with a ton of land, they work so much better(mining was giving me 32 base hammers in the end)

IMO space race is best done on continents, and I try to grab the entire continent I'm on. Two main reasons for that are:

1) More prod cities means you can distribute the workload of the space ship components (especially casings and thrusters) out wider, thus working in parallel to complete the ship earlier.

2) Defense is MUCH simpler when you don't have an overland rival at your door. Defend the coasts and let the interior be soft and chewy. This can be done with fewer units, hence, more efficiently once your conquest wars are over. Keep only the most elite of city raid units (for retake stacks in the event of invasion) and all new units are strong at city garrison and/or counterattack.

Also on the defensive front, keep a perimeter of naval units out a reasonable distance away from the continent so that if/when the AI decides to try an invasion, you get advance warning and can swith a few prod cities to units ahead of the war declaration (and bring some of your stacks into the area the AI seems to be gunning for).

If you're cooking the game to get the earliest finish date, defense is irrelevant. You put in techmongers that don't dow at pleased and suck utterly at war due to low unitprobs.

earliest with random leader/start... yeah, otherwise, fully agree, probably techmongers since they increase the pace and don't bother you, plus if you need more space, they're happily providing it.

My fastest(and to date only bts) space race victory i launched 1670 AD. That was a MP game on noble though...

I know this post is like a month old, but that sounds impossible without some serious cheating! Doubt it's real, any proof? :king:

Well, it's a valid hall of fame entry, like so:

http://hof.civfanatics.net/civ4/game_info.php?show=playerlog&dsply=0&entryID=13788

Mining inc in 660 BC...satellites before 1AD...and yes, apollo before 1AD.

He wasn't able to launch until 480 AD. Seems production was the limiting factor for him, even with mining inc.

He took industrialism with liberalism in the mid-late BCs .

My apologies if this point has already been made.

In this case, the spaceship was launched on turn 366 (if I am reading the table correctly). In a normal speed game, turn 366 would be around AD 1946. Still impressive, but not so unbelievable.

it was on marathon

but anyway, on settler the question I've started the thread with doesn't exist :p It's not like the ai can help you in any way, so I don't see why you'd leave him anything over what's needed so you don't get domi.

Follow the link in post 32, download the save games, read the turn logs, etc.

Unless you think Dynamic has some hack for the HofF mod...

You need "lock modified assets" off to be able to use WorldBuilder. If it was that easy I'd have several HoF submissions on deity by now ;)

If you *really* want to win deity HoF games, abuse permanent alliances. The culture AIs are almost never higher in power than the others, which means that if you butter them up, you win culture. Getting a legendary capitol (like, say, OCC wonder spam) makes it even easier/faster.

Considering HoF allows you to CHOOSE your leaders, throwing sitting bull in with a bunch of culture idiots should get you a very high chance of being able to PA someone FTW.

Very fair.
