Anyone ever tried fasting for any reason? Are you currently on a fast? It's been a topic on my mind on-and-off for years because I do it every once in awhile without really trying; I just have a busy schedule and prefer to eat less often typically on those days.

However, it's interesting to me to see how popular short-term fasts have become: intermittent fasting (usually 18:6, no-eat:eat), day-long fasting, monk fasting (36 hours), and so on to about 3 days. The reasons are numerous, even going as far as to say it increases HGH and lifespan, but oftentimes, the science behind each claim seems to be limited to short-term fasts anyway.

Were you interested in experimenting with longevity benefits?
Were you sick and tried fasting to feel better while sick or get better faster?
Were you fasting for religious purposes?
Were you fasting for weight loss?
Are you currently fasting and want to share the wins/losses with people who also play Civilization?

Plains-Cow would like to know!

Moo.

When I sleep in until noon on the weekends I like to tell myself that I'm intermittent fasting.

Otherwise no. I need my 3 square meals a day.

Wednesday of this past week.

It helps focus the thought that I am dust and will return to dust.

Yeah. We even did one together on CFC a long time ago to help alter the vibes away from invading Iraq.

I have done both intermittent fasting for health reasons and fasting when liturgically appropriate. However, since I do intermittent fasting by default (I have lunch and something small for supper) the Catholic-ish fasting is only salient during Lent when I avoid meats other than fish. Interestingly, Upton Sinclair wrote a book on the health benefits of long-term fasting. IF is fairly easy for me because I don't get hungry until late morning and don't need much in the evenings than a little nibble to take pills and such.

Only when required before an operation.

I fast between breakfast and dinner most work days. Sometimes I get so hungry, I need something though.
But most of the time, it works. Just remember to drink plenty of water.

Normal breakfast alternating an egg with veggies and toast with oatmeal. Cafe au lait and OJ every day; big lunch mid afternoon and a very light dinner (toast or fruit).
