Greetings,

For those who are interested in a surprisingly entertaining dungeon crawl (in the vein of Hack, Larn, Rogue, ADOM, Diablo, etc) you should check out "Fate" (http://www.fatethegame.com).

Ostensibly the game is developed by one guy, and costs a scant $20 (there is a demo available). He's extremely active on the forums, and very receptive to suggestions from the player base (in fact, he recently made a post asking what the players would like to see in an upcoming patch -- don't see that very often). The 3D graphics, while not bleeding edge, are quite respectable (though a little cartoony). The game is extremely stable... and the few known bugs are very minor. It boasts randomly created dungeon levels (that, theoretically, never end), skill based character creation (no classes), randomized "mods" for equipment/gear, pets, an "heir" system, etc. As a bonus, it appears to be extremely easy to mod.

If you're looking for a "deep" RPG, this probably won't fit the bill, but it will definitely scratch the itch of those who enjoy pure dungeon crawls.

For the record: I have nothing to do with the production/development of the game -- just a fan.

hrm, get as far as creating my character, then it gets about 3/4 of the way through loading, and crashes to the desktop. :(

So much for minor bugs  Seriously though, you might try asking on the forums available through the link above -- I'm sure someone can help you out.

I did play way way back in my earlier amiga days. ASCII rogue game.
Ahhh the memories

Aye... so did I. What's nice about Fate is that it has most of the same elements of the old "Roguelikes", but instead of ASCII, we get 3D.
