If we capture Essen, what should we do with it?

This is a public, simple choice poll, majority wins and lasts 2 Days.
There will be no abstain, since there are only two options in the game.

1. Keep Essen
2. Raze Essen

Just a suggestion, but either attach a screenshot of the city for those who don't have the save, or can't look it up. Or, if you can't do that, explain what all the city has available, such as resource wise.

It's hard to make a decision when you don't know what the city has.

I've removed the full screen images of the first time, and I'm now only using thumbnails. That should reduce the load time quite a bit.

I would like to Raze Essen, not keep it, since our workers are busy everywhere else (they are too few, and we cannot connect Essen as we should).


However, we should still keep a military presence in the region, and kill off new settlers coming in. Razing Essen is the most effective way to shorten the border, lower civic costs and maintain effective security of the south.

Essen simply does not pay off, and we should also see how the Forbidden Palace Polls go, so we can build a new city.

I can also see that building a city NE of the rice by the lake, would be a good location, making room for several other cities we otherwise could not build.

I do agree that we can't use Essens need for workers right now. That's why I would like to leave it German for now, and only take it later when Germanies workers have done some improving.

Problem is that if we let Essen stay, we will have to take it later, and delay the war even more unnecessarily. This also binds up huge forces in the SE, just to keep the Germans out. Shortening the border is by far the best move now.

Essen has to go.

Not having to attack Essen now will not delay this war, it will give us an earlier opportunity to make peace.

And we don't need to defend this area that much, as the german forces are underwhelming, and the AI won't be stupid enough to declare on us now after we've beaten the crap out of them.

I would not say "beaten the crap" out of them is taking tiny Stuttgart.
Essen is half their iron, and one city less to worry about.

Since we can do it in a turnchat, we should do it, and poll for peace then.
This poll was for war objectives, and a peace is a separate negotiation.

If we are not getting Compass, the war is not worth it. So I say we should fight on till they give us Compass (at least Essen to see).

So you voted "Keep Essen" for tactical reasons, just to make sure we only conquer Stuttgart, as you want to? You would like it as German, yet, you would like to keep it? The city location is bad, and we need to patch up the border.

We save ourselves 13 tiles of patrolling compared to one, for sealing off the Isthmus. Then, considering adding some more cohesion to the Berlin-Cologne-Ainu Border, saves us 7 tiles, which also makes the Isthmus Guard redundant. We stand to save ourselves 20 tiles unguarded territory, and we can concentrate a line from Cologne, and with the Axemen already standing there on the iron.

I was planning on letting the Border Guards stand in that forest south of Frankfurt, East of Cologne. That would be a measle 2 tile border compared to 20 as it is now.

I don't think we should take it yet, however if we do take it, razing it wouldn't be my choice.

This is a tie, but given the allergy to new cities, and this is a bad location, I hope sanity prevails and Essen is razed.
