Just what it says. I'm curious to see what map types everyone's been enjoying.

I've tried every type besides Inland Sea, but I've settled into fractal for now. I'm finding Pangaea maps to be a little *too* simple (unless I'm going for a quick domination game), with not enough outlying islands to really satisfy me. I've had mixed results with Continents – one map that was very interesting, including a 2-civ island, but another with 2 very boring large Continents. I also tried rolling a few with Island Plates, but encountered a lot of weak starts, as you're not even going to get fresh water much of the time (I've seen starts with no fresh water within a 1-tile range, which seems punishing for a capital). But so far, Fractal has been just the right mix for me, including some really varied starting positions.

I'm currently playing on inland sea and really liking it. Lots of space for expanding (once you kill the two AI players that are 9 tiles from your capitol.) There are also a lot of homogeneous hex areas that make for some very specialized cities. I found a beautiful spot that had almost half flood plains and the other half plains hills. It is going to be a production powerhouse.

I agree, Fractal is the way to go. It's unpredictable but still doesn't go too crazy. Exploration is a lot more fun than on standard continents. Sometimes it's even possible to explore quite well with a galley and find interesting little islands with unique luxuries close to your starting position.

I've played 3 Fractal maps so far and have just started a Continents map.

Have been a little disappointed in Fractal tbh as all 3 maps have been more like a crazy messed up Pangaea. Rather than how I remember it being in Civ5, where there were quite often large unconnected islands away from the main landmass.

My fractal game was interesting. It was very similar to England and Northwest Europe in design, and I was on the big England island by myself :D I had crouching tigers on the shores warning off incursions and the Venetian armada pumping out a navy to protect my channel, it was fun but ultimately kind of boring since I was going for a space race and was completely uncontested.

I've been enjoying the Fractal maps I've been playing

Shuffle is my favourite. And no, it doesn't just choose a random map script! It takes all the subfunctions of all the ordinary map scripts and makes a big mumbo jumbo of them all.

Wait what? You sure?

He's right.

So what does that end up producing? That sounds incredibly interesting. I've been really enjoying fractals, as I like the unpredictability, but if shuffle is as crazy as this sounds it may be even cooler...

Ok cool I've added shuffle. I'll have to try it out -- it was completely unclear it was its own map script and not just a random option.

You can't say what it produces. It's really more or less random, also when it comes to age and aridity etc. I had maps close to fractal and island plates, but also mixes of continents (more Pangea) and island plates. Some are horribly unbalanced, but I like the exploring part much more with Shuffle.

When / how was this confirmed?
It was like that in earlier civs. Then the tooltip says something different from 'chooses randomly one of the above.' They even used the word 'Shuffle' instead of 'random.' Okay, that is not 'confirmed' but what else so you need? They are probably not going to announce map scripts further than the tooltips if they are not new. This all is + I played a few games with that map script.

But Siptah, that would mean there is no "Random" map option in Civ VI, which seems wierd right?
