That should cut down on lag time. Sounds wonderful. I keep promising myself an upgrade. Let me know how things work out.

Yeah, my 512 MBs of RAM really runs smoothly, and multitasking works wonderfully. If my 512 MBs RAM is good, your 1 Gig of RAM should be awesome!

I'm still on a Pentium III at 1ghz and 256 MB ram. It limits me with lots of pondering time between moves late in the game and I find that more than 12 civs creates alot of drag. 64Mb graphics card helps but we all need more power. Right?

I personally don't like the low Civ's limit allowed for map sizes that are randomly generated...

You can make randomly generated maps with more than the usual limit. I learned this fact not too long ago myself.

If you go into the editor you can change the rules and the player starting items/units/techs while not using a custom map.

In the PTW editor go to the "Scenario" drop down menu and at the bottom there should be 3 options. Custom Player Data, Custom Map, and Custom Rules. If you only check custom rules you can jsut change the civ limits for each size. Just make sure you dont check custom map, and you dont touch the map at all.

You still must use the "Load Scenario" option in the game but when you load it up you go through the same creation process as with the normal way of starting a new game.

Hope this helps.

5-6 on a normal size map. I like to have some room to expand without going to war. Being fenced in in the Ancient Era makes me mad

as much as possible to help the advanceing techs to go faster

The more the merrier, IMO.

And the more civs that I get to crush with my superior civilization! BWAHAHAHAHAHA!

I usually play standard map. I do like playing on larger maps. The more civs, the better. However, my PC is not well prepared for it. More exactly, I am not patient enough to wait their turns. Reasonable enough - 5 mins per turn is just too much to enjoy the game.

It should haveen possible to play with more than max civs through the default rules (say 8 civs in a tiny map)

Try 31 civs on a tiny map via the editor, then. Then try it on deity with maximum aggression.

You can mod the game to more Civs in a map?! Woooohoo!

/Beeblbrox runs off to start a max map game with all Civs

I think you can guess what I voted for :D

I like lots of civs, but I've found there is a limit.
I recently played a game with 30 civs (including mine) and finally quit with only 12 techs to go. I couldn't handle waiting half an hour at the end of the turn for all the opposing civs to make their moves before I could take my turn. Just the goto, roadto, and railto commands alone were taking 15 minutes for for the computer to run through.
Maybe when I get a computer that's faster than 400 MHz with more than 32 megs of ram…
I ended up reading three books, just on the AI turns, while playing that game.

I'm amazed that the game will run. I know that's below the minimum requirements for C3C. You must be running Civ3.
I give you an A+ for dedication.:goodjob:

As many as I can! It adds far more intrigue and conflict, and scientific research always goes faster. Just don't get left behind in teh ancient age, the only way to distinguish yourself as a world power in a game with tons of AI's is to do a little conquerin' :king:

(31) That's a lot of civs.
I play on a 240 x 240 map with 12.
What size map are you using?
Basically I like as much civ as possible with huge map. 24 on PTW, 31 on Conquest (sometime I got confuse :D) I played with 3 computers at the same time. Range from CivIII, Conquest and PTW. With the lag between turn, there is more than enough time. However, on conquest, I limit standard map with 16 civs for more playable time :D
