Dr. Strangelove is a classic, and Peter Sellers was a masterly performer. The humor incorporated into this movie is really legendary, and remember they did it at the peak of the Cold War.

Looks like no one has ever seen his first 6 films (nor have I).

And 3 people so far thinks Stanley sucks but haven't given a reason :p

The rest of the results so far don't really surprise me however. Even though there are those who complained about the Shining, the film has a lot of fans as well.

I am ashamed that I did not know Kubrick did Spartacus. Tremendous movie.

However:
1. 2001 -- perhaps the most thought-provoking movie of all time, even if you're just trying to figure out what the hell it was about.
2. Dr. Strangelove -- coming on the heels of Fail Safe, it make everyone find something funny about the Cold War and Nuclear Armageddon.
3. Full Metal Jacket -- "Whassa matter, Pyle, didn't mommy and daddy pay you enough attention?!?!" (Gunshot)
4. Clockwork Orange -- after 2001, perhaps the most brilliant movie of its day.
5. (Tie) Paths of Glory/Lolita -- made us examine what we had assumed was always true and right.

Honorable mention: Eyes Wide Shut -- terrible movie, but Nic Kidman sans panties. Oh my!

I also liked eyes wide shut. It was stressful, tense, erotic, and yes, Kidman was very hot. I don't know why folks dislike this movie, actually. Unless they feel uncomfortable.

I voted "Stanley Kubirck Sucks" although to be honest I haven't seen several of the movies mentioned and like Spartacus and Dr. Strangelove. 2001: ASO merits his sucking status in my book. Everytime i'm reminded of the film, all I can think of is: "A huge fetus in space? A HUGE FETUS IN SPACE????"

It is fun to sing the theme music with alternate lyrics created by a friend of mine.

Spaaaaacce.....Feeeee.....Tuuuuuus! FEEEEETUS!
boom boom boom boom boom boom
Spaaaaacce.....Feeeee.....Tuuuuuus! FEEEEETUS!
boom boom boom boom boom boom
Spaaaaacce.....Feeeee.....Tuuuuuus! FEEEEETUS!
SPACE FETUUUUUS! SPACE FE-EE-EE-EE-TUS!
etc.

I think that people often forget that 2001 was a book. I've always thought the opening sequence to the book is brilliant. Clark basically said, in no words, that man's evil is related to technology. Really makes you think. I haven't seen the movie, but I loved that book. Aside from the opening sequence, I haven't even tried to figure out what it means. There is just too much craziness.
