Favorite Tech Quotes

"If you chase two rabbits, you will lose them both."

It's a great metaphor that can be applied to contexts other than hunting.

This one really surprised me. We have almost exactly the same proverb in France ("Il ne faut jamais courir deux lièvres à la fois"), and the last time I checked there was not many Native Americans over here.

For what I've red, that's an adage from Desiderius Erasmus, Dutch humanist, 1469-1536, published in his Adagiae in 1500. He never went to the New World, so I'll presume it's not an old Native American saying, or at least it wasn't until the Dutch came in America...

I also like Bronze Working's flavor quote:

It is entirely seemly for a young man killed in battle to lie mangled by the bronze spear. In his death all things appear fair. -Homer

I like the Ben Franklin quote..... in times where so many are eager to trade Liberty for Security ( normally other's Liberty for their Safety ;) ) it is good to hear the voice of probably the more inteligent American of all times ( well, technically he born British and worked lots of time for the British Crown ) remembering that trading them is a bad deal ;)

Nationalism of course

"A man does not have himself killed for a half-pence a day or for some petty distinction. You must speak to the soul in order to electrify him" - Napoleon Bonaparte

The man who moves a moutain, begins by carring away small stones.

I love Confucius quotes.

Bureaucracy cracks me up every time.

I also Liberalism and Hunting: "If you chase two rabbits, you will lose them both"....as one fateful Feb. 14th I found out the hard way. ahaha.

I really can't stand Sid's quotes in BtS....he is no Nimoy!

If only I can remember which tech has the one saying

"In time any technology could be considered magic"
So wish I knew how that one went.

Maybe, but I still like hearing him say the quote for Aesthetics.

Art for art's sake is an empty phrase. Art for the sake of the true, art for the sake of the good and the beautiful, that is the faith I am searching for.
-George Sand

There is none. HOWEVER, Fusion gives a simaler quote:

Any sufficiently advanced technologyy is indistinushable from magic

I have memorised all the basic tech quotes. Or, almost all of them...

Favorites:

"The buerocracy is expanding to meet the needs of the expanding buerocracy" - Buerocracy
"Beep. Beep. Beep. Beep. Beep" - Satellites

And my most memorable. I get BtS, and hear that they have new voices for some of the new techs. So, being me, I start a game, and bee-line Aethetics. Hearing Sid Mier say "Art for arts sake is an empty phrase, art of the sake of truth, art of the sake of the beutaful, THAT is the art that I am searching for" was one of the biggest let downs in the entire game :P

Its a pity that his worst example of speaking (Advanced Flight, and Fibre Optics are MUCH better, but no-where near Nimoy), was also the first 'new' tech you could research.

That said, my final favorite quote:

'Nothing travels faster than the speed of light, with the possible exception of bad news, which obeys it's own special laws' - Lazer. If it wasn't for the fact that Sid's voice rises a good 2.5 octaves on the word 'possible', it would have been an awesome quote :P

I cannot live without books

-Thomas Jefferson

I think Paper

can't remember which tech, but I like..

"Light a man a fire and he'll be warm for a night, set a man on fire and he'll be warm for the rest of his life"

I like the quote of Combustion best:

"Everything in life is somewhere else, and you get there in a car." - E. B. White

@TM Moot: Not a civ quote, sorry :p At least, not in BtS, or Warlords. Its likely to be in a mod that covers "Fire" as a tech, however... Or maybe "Napalm" :p

@6-Star General: The Communism quote is one of the few ones that made me smile, and suppress a chuckle. It is a good quote...

"Light a man a fire and he'll be warm for a night, set a man on fire and he'll be warm for the rest of his life"
That's a Terry Pratchett's quote from "Jingo". Not in the game AFAIK, but someone has it in his sign on the forum.

Another I like : "Sometimes it's better to light a flamethrower than curse the darkness." - Terry Pratchett, Mens at arms.

"Light a man a fire and he'll be warm for a night, set a man on fire and he'll be warm for the rest of his life"

That's not there but there's a very similar quote

"Give a man a fish and you feed him for a day, teach a man to fish and you'll feed him for the rest of his life"

"I have just one word for you, just one word: Plastics!" - From "The Graduate"

Part of why I enjoyed that quote so much was the fact at the time I first researched plastics, I had very recently seen "The Graduate" for the first time and saw the scene where Dustin Hoffman's character is grabbed by a drunken relative and given some vague financial advice. Then to later see it used as the quote for such an important modern age technology/development made me LOL for real.
