From what I've seen, most people tend to build their empires toward the same goals and players have become somewhat specialized according to their preferred strategies... as such I was wondering what the community's favourite victory types were. :king:

I know that I personally prefer Spaceship victories. I feel that it gives the full experience of the game. You can use wars to expand your empire without feeling like a homicidal maniac, you get to experience all the ages of the game and the specific strategies that come with them. Being a sci-fi dork, I love the idea of space colonization and the cutscene is pretty epic. Looking back on it and thinking that most of the work was probably done in late 2000 and early 2001, its fairly impressive.

What are your favourite victories?

I tend to go for either Domination or Diplomatic. Diplomatic is for when I've played a game through and am satisfied with it. If I'm not unable to do that, I'll do space race. I sometimes do Space Race just to see the end video, though.

Diplomatic

But it is the kind of diplomatic victory where you establish yourself as the largest, most populous, most commercy, most advanced civ in the game, while still being in a position to be easily voted most popular kid on the block. :p

None of the above: Currently I'm around year 2100 picking off the last 3 of 8 opponents. I enjoy wars but only for 10 or 15 turns. I enjoy cleaning up between wars and securing my borders, especially when I leave opens tracts of land to the barbarians, just for the hell of it and to promote my units.

I like histographic, but I prefer to be able to choose between triggering more than one in-game victory conditions in 2050. I've had two games where all of them were possible, but usually I don't bother trying to keep one AI polite enough to vote for me.

I usually go for domination, as wars are fun. The other types have a certain amount of tedium attached.

Domination. I usually war for resources and to have enough room to be dominant. I'm always trying to get all luxuries and resources and that makes enemies. So then I have to destroy my enemies. And then somebody objects to my plan to be self-sufficient. When that's done I'm not that far from dom anyway.

Aabraxan's experience is exactly mine. I get to dom before conquest and then what's the point? And I agree with Overseer, the others seem to have a lot of tedium to them.

Domination. I love the feeling feeling of conquering the world, conquest seems to empty.

Well, my 20k vote is looking awfully lonely up there.

You don't have to feel so lonely any more. 20K is my favorite, too.

20K is not bad, if you want a good score along with a good finish date. I just finished one as England at Emperor level in 1768 and a score of 3700, had lots of warfare along the way to spice it up.

I don't know that I always plan for Domination, but it seems like I end up there an aweful lot. I have to practice a lot of self-discipline not to trip the limit in most games. And since I don't use any assisting programs, I often wander over the line even if I am trying for something else.

Lately I'm on a Diplo kick, but its hard not use all those shiny tanks against . . . . everyone.

Domination rulez

I don't feel secure until AI capitals jump to another planet not in the Alpha centauri system.

Sometimes try space but it's domination derived space

I like Domination because I like the game to be played an finished ASAP. I occasionally go for Space as it offers a different game.

I never do Diplo because I will not permit the UN to be a part of any game I play. The sooner someone nukes that place in real time the better the whole world will be. The concept that diplomacy is an honourable state is a joke. diplomacy is about who tells the biggest lies while beating the masses to death - we have enough of that in real life; don't need it in a game.
