Lately (since 1.21?) I have noticed that when a resource dissapears, it almost always reappears in the exact same spot. 90% of the time I'd estimate. The bigger the map, the higher the chance that is jumps; on small maps I havenm't seen a resource jump in some 15 games.

How is it for you: Do the resources jump????????

I only play huge maps (except for maybe GOTM) but I never seen it reappear in exactly the same place although I know it will reappear somewhere else on the map in the same turn.

That is what I expect after reading the manual. But I find I can rely on not loosing the resource and on never gaining one by exhaustion and reappearance :(

I think that if u discover a new source of iron in the industrial or modern age(and u haven't just lost one) u can be pretty sure that one of the other civs resource has just dried up.

But if your territory is large enough u can usually rely on getting it back somewhere in your territory.

Well I don't see that! I hardly ever discover a new one, unless it is in the exact same stop where one just dissappeared

I guess it's a BUG :(

Same here, Killer.
I had 5 ressources disappearing, all to be back at the exact same spot the very same turn.

The last couple of games I played were Tournament games, or one resembling similar conditions. Only one time did it happen that a resource reappeared in exactly the same spot.

In my last game, tiny, archip., 70% I had 3 oil when refining was discovered. When the game finished just one of those was left.

My guess is that when a resource disappears the likelyhood of it reappearing in a suitable tile is equal for all tiles that do not have a resource yet. So statistically it can reappear on the same tile.

I did some quick counting: there's 178 tiles suitable for iron in my game (that is not already iron on it, no iron within 3 tiles, no other res on it or within 2 tiles <-- assumption here that this represents the 'blocking distance')
.
that game, the same iron dissappeared twice to show up in the exact same spot out of 179 possibles.....

Killer, can you select my lottery ticket next time when there is a big jackpot? :D :D :D :D :D

Without kidding, I believe what you saw, hope you believe my observations as well. 1 : 31684 is a very low probability, I can't explain it either.

Sure I believe you! I guess the RNG is somehow dependent on the system you use. I saw something similar with Falcon 4.0, there i couldn't lanbd without crashing, then I exchanged my main board and suddenly the game ran smoothly.....

I also get strange strings for leader generation, I always have long waits at the beginning (around 40 wins or more), then get 3 or 4 quickly (every 5 wins or so), then it keep going at a 'normal' pace (4 out of around 65 fights).....

Some thoughts (while at work :) ). And in relation to the resource thing.

Could it make a difference if "preserve random seed" is selected? Mine is always on, because that is Tournament rule. I could imagine that results are different when yours is off.

On GL's, sometimes I get none, sometimes evenly spread over time, sometimes a couple in a row.

We should keep more statistics on all of this!

mine is on or off and it still happenes the same way.......

There's a nice thread by sumthinelse titled Only 1 leader from any given elite.....

My "preserve random seed" is ALWAYS off.
Still, on a large map, 50 % ocean coverage, pangea, I had a systematical rebirth of any ressource on the exact same place where they disappeared.

It could that when Firaxis implemented the full random seed that they did not implement it correctly.

I will keep an eye on it in my next game.

Feature. This works as intended. Whenever a resource disappears, the algorithm looks to place it in another location. There is a statistical probability that it could be the exact same spot (maybe your people actually discovered that they weren't digging deep enough to find the new iron...). Certain factors can influence this such as de-forestation or terrain changes due to global warming as there may be less viable tiles upon which to place the resource as the game progresses. I hope that answered your question.

Speedy, the resource almost always shows up in the same spot. the same one out of 179 in the above example. So your answer isn't really helpfull! Please read the thread again, then you'll see why that is so!

The 'Certain factors' you named - can you tell me how they should influence iron, huh?

No, you have just noticed it showing up in the same place a certain number of times, which is not statistically relevant. I played 1.21 for weeks before you ever had it and I am playing on a future version now in which no change has been made to that code and I can say that this is definitely not the case. Sure, it does happen from time to time (like as said, this can happen), but it certainly does not happen the majority of the time in my experience.
