Hi. I'm trying to install Civilzation IV from CD. Disc1 is returning this informational error:

Feature: DefaultFeature
Component: Civ4Component
File: F:\data2.cab
Error: Data error (cyclic redundancy check).

Since this is from a disc, it may just be that it's too scuffed to work (I've had it forever, and couldn't get it to play on WinXP, or Win10 but at least it installed).

Quite a number of hits for "feature transfer error" using the forum search: result
Indeed sounds like a damaged CD. data2.cab should contain most of the game's assets. In the DVD(?) installer (game version 1.0) I have on my hard disk, it's 1.25 GB. (Well, that wouldn't even fit on one CD, so I guess your cab files must be split up differently.) Seems like a likely place for a disc error.

If it's just the base game, then I don't think launching it will work anyway because its copy protection mechanism is no longer supported on Win10+. But I don't think this would cause an error already while installing, and, if it's BtS or a complete edition, the latest patch (v3.19) should remove the problem.

Maybe copying all the files to your HD and trying to install from there would help. Though I don't know how the disk switching would be handled; perhaps it'll let you pick a folder. Could also try to extract the files using an external tool. I have isxunpack.exe and UniExtract 2 here, but I don't recall which of those (if any) worked on the DVD installer. And just copying the extracted files to Program Files wouldn't be a full installation; registry keys would be missing.

Thank you for the suggestions. It's something to try this weekend. I kinda wrote off being able to play it again, anyway but I couldn't bring myself to throw the discs away.
