Female Pope!

I was playing the Custom Campaign Mod (i saw it in the launch browser)

as the Papal States, I get a new Pope when my old one dies. And this pope from Venice was rather interesting in the traits section.

btw doesnt anybody check the pope to make sure they r men? also couldnt they tell from the voice or did they just think the pope is sucking helium 24/7

They constructed a sort of seat (sedia stercoraria) with a hole in it. The new elected pope had to sit on it without underwear, after which the cardinals could check the sex of the pope, proclaiming: "Testiculos habet et bene pendentes" (use your imagination on the translation).

I guess "rational behaviour" is not something that belongs in the dictionary of medievil clergy. Something to do with inbreeding...

It all started because a Pope (don't remember which one) actually was a female. It was rumored that they found out when the Pope died and that's why they made the seat. The Pope isn't supposed to be female because you can't be a female priest, which is the first step towards being Pope. So a Pope being female means they lied at some point about their sex. I don't agree with the rule, but that was/is the rule (until we get it changed).
