This won't help our civil rights reputation in the U.S. I expect more U.S. bashing, as that's everyone's favorite pastime. But in this example, it is an isolated event. Not indicative of the rest of the U.S. Unless you want to argue our violent media promotes this type of problem solving behaviour...

Actually I'm not sure the attack would be called brutal per se, but that's how the news organizations describe it. I don't consider it particularly brutal, but perhaps because the attacker is a woman, it seems more brutal.

here's the video, sound quality isn't great as its from a cell phone camera.

Link to video.

anyone here support the teacher? *crickets chirp* didn't think so :) I don't either. Kids are bad in schools today, but I just can't see how the teacher lost it in this case. I guess she felt the need to defend the younger girl.

Things were much better in schools when the women teachers just had sex with the boy students.

You've never been truely whomped-on unless you went to Catholic school in the 1960's.

 she seem to expect some serious resistance in the beginning.

It's all very physical, but does any of those blows really land properly?

Seems she's very angry with him but can't decide what to do.

The first comment on the site makes me angry

Spoiler :
"The 40-year-old teacher has been sacked and bosses have apologised to the youngster and his furious mother, Alesha Johnson£

That's all the sanction this brat needs to carry on with his undisciplined life style. Don't be surprised if his attitude towards other teachers, and other people in authority, becomes even more unbearable. He has just been empowered to do what he likes and stick two fingers up to anyone who objects.

Someout is out of a job...
I started to read the comments and what the hell:
The teacher involved is facing 2-10 years in prison. The others who saw it but didn't report it face up to 1 year in jail and up to a $4,000 fine if the Sheriff files charges, which will almost certainly happen.
Losing a job seems appropriate, but 2 years in prison for snapping out and giving some kid a black eye?
EDIT: Although, after re-watching the video I feel a shock imprisonment would be in order. For about the time it takes for those bruises to disappear.

There are students who definitely deserve this. The kids behavior in classes should be analized and only then they should decide what to do with the teacher.

I agree that teaching isn't beating up (like when you hit a kid for making a mistake, or for getting low marks everytime), but some students literally mock teachers and disturb a whole class because all they want to do is to go outside and be a criminal. If education isn't working with them, beat them. It's fair.

Man, thats nothing. We just had a teacher cleared of attempted murder after repeatedly beating a student with a dumbell screaming "Die, Die you little ----, Die!".

This is why I never became a teacher. While teachers should be able to control themselves there are kids who get out of control. There are tons of rules on how you're supposed to handle it but at the end of the day, this basically means the teacher has to suck it up. It seems like a no-win situation to me, and I never wanted to put myself through that aggravation. I have respect for those who do.

What did the 13 year old do? Was he assaulting another student before the teacher stepped in? And does anyone else hear a bunch of the kids laughing in the video and saying 'he was trying to get the girl.'

Edit: Looked up some articles. Sounds like he needed an ass kicking. Hopefully this will not be an isolated incident but will bring forth a new era. Public schools in America need a little more boot camp and a lot less pampering. He deserved it.

Being a teacher myself (yup, mostly 13, 14 and 15 year olds), I do wonder what happened before. I seriously cannot imaging flipping out like this.

Further evidence that going into teaching at a primary or secondary level is madness. I'm not surprised she was driven to this.
