Use this thread to talk about the general aggresiveness of the AI and appropriate declarations of war or peace in your games.

Hmm im at year 200 of my game with myself on an island(Khazad)(Runes of kilmorph) with the calabim (Octopus Overlords) and they havent declared yet.

Although that may be normal, just thought id throw an observation out there. ;)

(sorry about the spelling in advance!) totally opposite, been playing prince setting as the sheiam until i summoned hyborum. started on the same continent as 3 other evil races 3 good and 1 neutral. one of the evil civs is the dolivero who have been at war constantly. the clan have spent a good portion of the game at war. and the good civs (khazad, bannor, malikim) have been fighting dogpile fasion against whichever of the evil races they thought they could have a go at.... GREAT!!! (manes alittle to powerful though

I love the new WarScript. I prefer an aggressive AI, so when I see the AI players actually warring against weaker AI, it brings a tear to my eyes. Oh, and they'll dogpile now, too--in my one game where I went from Calabim to Infernal, the early game was rife with conflict--usually bi- and trilateral conflict (Capria-Cardith-Garrim vs. Alexis-Mahala-Arturius, in all manner of different combinations). It didn't end until Hyborem entered the scene..and suddenly Capria was more concerned with what was sitting no more than two tiles away from her third largest city.

I love the WarScript. Seeing the AI players actually maintain a war against one another is fantastic, almost unseen in any of my .16 games. With aggressive AI on it's challenging, I have had to really alter the way I play my early game. Never before have I had to concern myself with actually building more than a handful of warriors before I was able to upgrade, even on marathon. It's lovely. I have noticed that sometimes war seems to be declared without any reason at all however, maybe because I'm a weak player? All the AI players in my current game have seen me as their worst enemy since day one, which could be the cause? But I'm not sure why they all hate me..

Evil AI players will tend to go after weak players. Attitude is a big reason of why civs decide to dogpile you. The Trust spell is very cool now (although I know it doesn't come until later) and its also worthwile to build other leaders favorite wonders for a nice diplo bonus.

Greetings

I just played just now and I used worldbuilder to hop on the infernals early on. There were 6 civilizations on my map, sheaim (whom I used to jump to the infernals with mass prophets bubbling), falamar, hippos, alveric(SP?) and some other neutral civs that got massacred.
At the beginning of the turn 26, when my Hylorem found the hippos i noticed immediatedly that they were declaring war with everyone, maybe because it was a because of the armaggedon count? or because the ai tends to check on the POWER graph on every turn before declaring wars? but by that time turn 26 all the other civs only had like 2 or 3 warriors so I think the warscript´s AI is a little bit too........eager to declare wars. without a reason and to find itself declaring peace in 10 turns afterwards. (hippos declared war on me also, altho my power graph was definitively waaaaaaay higher than their´s)

Hyboream starts with enough power to take what everyone else is likely to have at turn 26, and he's the type to do it if he can. If you want Infernals right off the bat, try a second-age start.

edit: Ah, okay, thanks for the feedback then.

I meant that for the hippos (back then on that game) it didn´t mattered how powerful or underpowered my army was he would just declare war on me for the fun of it and he did so with the other AIs.

Mixed results so far. The first game I played, there was constant warring between all of the civs (Varn even declared on Cardith b/c they had different religions!). It was a warmongers dream. The civs were a mix of good, evil, and neutral. Religions were also mostly mixed between Runes and Fellowship.

The second game I started, Kandros founded Runes very early and everyone ended up with Runes, so even all the evil civs turned neutral and it seems like no one wants to found AV, so there hasn't been a single war yet even though both the Svaltar and th Ljosofar are in the game. They are also differnent religions with the Svaltar as Runes and Ljosofar as Fellowship. Still playing this one to see if war will ever break out.

So, so far, two very different games in terms of war. Not sure what caused the first game to degenerate into the constant warring that occurred (every civ involved in at least 2 wars, sometimes with with wars going on at a time for them). While the second game -- I thought the Svaltar were supposed to declare on the Ljosofar if they weren't involved in any wars? What deteremines if this happens or not?

The Svartalfar and the Ljosalfar start fighting if the Armageddon counter gets over a certain amount (I think its 20).

The mixed results you describe are exactly what we are going for. I dont want every game to be the same, I want them to play out differently based on whats is happening in the game.

Just want to confirm; Does all of this wonderfull warmongering occurs with agressive AI turned OFF? I usually turn it on to up the ante, and keep the politics interesting through the midgame, but I've never been dog-piled by the AI before.

This all sounds great! Can't wait to get a game or two under my belt.

Im playing a game atm, and as calabim (my original civ) I had contact with Garrim Gyr. Just a few minutes ago, Garrim Gyr declared war on me as Hyborem. Now, this might not seem strange, but I haven't had contact with Garrim Gyr before this as Hyborem. He's still not in my list-of-people-I've-met.

As soon as i met charadon in my new game, he declared war on me the next turn for no reason!

It was near the very beginning of the game so i dont know why. He didnt have anything besides a couple warriors defending his capital.

I'm not sure who declared war on who, but Jonas (middle of the pack score-wise) is destroying barbarian cities left and right in my current game. He's got 3 wolf riders, so it might be that he declares war when fighting animals?

Cool situation in my current game--Auric and Flauros both have no religion yet, and they have sort of formed an unaligned block, twice declaring war simuteaniously.

I have found that the Elohim are really good at keeping the peace (which is neat). In my game as them I noticed a lot of wars kick-starting after the Prophecy of Ragnarok was created but once I knocked the armageddon counter back down below 10 things calmed down a great deal. It's almost too easy to win an Altar victory with them.

I was the dominant civ( bya few points), as amurites, whenall of a sudden, both falamar and rhoana, who were pleased with me, spontaneously declared war on me... don't think that's normal...
