FfH2 023 (Vanilla) Issues

I'm a little new to the FfH community, and have been having a slight issue. I don't have BtS or Warlords, so I can't use any of the recent versions, but I have been itching to dive into the vanilla version. I spent a week downloading the file, which took forever (I hate dial-up), and just installed it a few hours ago. I go into the Civ4 game, go into the Load a Mod screen, scroll through my list of mods, and I tell it to open the recently installed FfH2.023. It exits out of the game displays the screen right before the XML loading screen, and then nothing. It basically just quits the program and doesn't load what it should. I used the shortcut found in the file itself, and it does the same thing. Displays the start-up screen and then absolutely nothing. I have another mod that does this, but never thought much of it. I didn't spend a week downloading it.

So basically, I'm in a little rut here, and I'm wondering what I have to do to get myself out. Is there any code I have to change, or a patch I need to download? I haven't installed any patches (due to my bad internet connection) but am willing to attempt to if need be. I'm anxious to play FfH2... and after taking all this time to figure out what to do, it's getting kind of annoying.

Any help at all is appreciated, but kudos to the one who can tell me how to solve this.

Thanks to ANYONE who can (or even will, with my luck) help me,

With the old vanilla version I always had a similar problem. It showed the first load screen for a short time, and then nothing. But a minute or two later the XML loading screen showed up and FFH started. How long did you wait?

Oh, and try checking the 0.23 Bug Thread, maybe someone had the same problem. Patch c for that version can be found there aswell, it has only 3 MB.

like draconian said,

JUST WAIT!

this is normal, the loading screen disapears, but ffh2 is loading up, so don't worry.

the first time i tried ffh2 the same thing happened and i didn't know either. so i was looking at the trouble shooting for what to do and while i was looking suddenly ffh2 starts up! funny moment! :D

ffh2 .23 (fire 2nd phase, 2/4 of ffh2) is very playible and complete. but its missing all the cool stuff, changes, and refining that we have with .32 (shadow phase, 3/4 of ffh2) for BTS.

if u can, get faster connection, dial up is too slow, i could never wait that long to downlaod the ~300 mbs that ffh2 files are and get bts, cuz .23 is great but .32 is much better.

Well, it was worth a try, but I didn't get any progress. I started it up and let it sit for about 20 mins and got nowhere... so I figured i might as well try Patch C. I perused through the bug forums a little and didn't find anything similar to this, but I did dl and install Patch C. It still does the same thing... This is really getting confusing, I've never had this much trouble with any mod, even the ones I made, and those had plenty of issues.

Thanks anyways guys, just wished it woulda worked so I wouldn't still be looking for an answer.

Wow, um...dude, I don't think the Vanilla Version has been even looked at by the FfH team in ages. (Holy sh*t! Wat memories tho!) Anyway, it's prolly so out-of-date that your bug is a natural result of that.

Frankly, I'm surprised that the Vanilla link still works.

It requires Civilization IV 1.61 to play. There should be an icon in the "C:\Program Files\Firaxis Games\Sid Meier's Civilization 4\Mods\Fall from Heaven 2 023" directory that starts the game automatically (so you dont have to select Load a Mod).

Outside of that it should be fine. I would test mind but I cant even find my original Civ4 cd right now to try it out.

Now HERE we go... I kinda guessed it might be a lack of a patch, I'm already 30% of the way through dling 1.61 (of course it won't be finished until next weekend, but I might as well get a head start). Thanks for all the help and suggestions... well, what there was of em anyways!

If the patch still don't cut it, I'm really not gonna be a happy camper.

Thanx 2 All,

Hope it works for ya, man.

totally forgot about the civ4 patch version!!!

good job kael!

well, i guess u didn't even have any patches yet installed. but if u had a civ4 patch after 1.61 than it might not also allow ffh2 .23 fire to work on civ4 either.

u definately need that 1.61 civ4 patch to play ffh2 .23 fire. and this should be the only thing keeping ffh2 from not working...hopefully..

ffh2 is the best mod ever!!! pretty much its own game in its own right!! even more awesome that its still free and the ffh2 team is just doing it as a "hobby"!!!

Well, yes, since it still says 1.61, I'd assume so. So, you'll prolly have to uninstall everythin. Then, reinstall Vanilla and install 1.61. Painful and time consumin I know, but that's wat ya sacrifice I guess.

Tho, to be perfectly honest, that version prolly hasn't been updated in forever. (Hence, why it's still for 1.61 and not 1.74.) So, tho you might not think it worth it, gettin BTS is prolly your best bet, man.

And we are LIVE!!! Thanks for all the help guys, but major kudos to Kael for the solution! I was up till around 5 last night playing FfH, and I still have plenty of time to keep playing. Welp, back to work, I've got to deal with Orthus again...

Have fun, man. Peace!
