FFH2 on a tablet PC?

I'm thinking about buying a tablet PC, and I'd like to be able to run FFH2 on it. Is anybody currently doing this? Could anyone recommend a tablet PC that would be able to run it? I don't have a firm budget, but $1,500 is the price point I have in my mind.

Sorry i don't know the specifics but a friend of mine runs FfH on his tablet. The biggest problem he has is that he can't type letters in while the game is up. Everything is still functional except when we played by LAN he was stuck with the defaulted user name.

I don't know what brand tablet he has but i do know he stuck a big Apple sticker on the back for a joke. It's definitely not an Apple but he gets a lot of questions from interested people asking him what kind of Apple it is, heh heh. Who says Apple people are smarter?!

I use a Toshiba Satellite that is about a year old and FfH works just fine on it. I don't play in Tablet mode normally because when I am gaming I want a full keypad. But my advice if you DO play it while in tablet mode is to also play in Windowed Mode (vice Fullscreen) so that you can still use the onscreen keyboard.


Hardware wise, it is quite capable of running the game, though it doesn't like being set to max graphical load (it is able to handle that, but doesn't like it).

Thanks for the info. I'm not that worried about playing it in Tablet Mode, though it might be nice. I want the tablet ability for other duties, and being able to play FfH would be a nice perk.

May I ask what model Toshiba you have, Xienwolf?

Sadly you may not. I bought one for my wife a year earlier, and so I can't count on the little bit of memory that I do have to be accurate. I think mine is the Satellite R25. It's not a 12" monitor, so that narrows it down considerably (or did a year ago at least).

I use mine mainly for notes in class (it rules), but am quite happy with it overall. Used to be that there were only 3 options you could go with to get larger than a 12" monitor, and 1 of those was a Gateway (they suck at Tablet Technology), other one was an Acer if I remember right. Sounded like the Acer was about as good as the Toshiba was, but I haven't used the company before, so my decision was made for me.

I suspect that by now there are more alternatives for larger monitors, but make sure you study up on how good the pen interface works before you decide which one to get. Some of them are HORRIBLE at the edges of the screen. Others have pathetic resolution, and a precious few have remarkable pressure sensitivity ranges.

I asked a question about a suitable notebook/laptop for FFH some time ago. I think you would have problems playing with the large/huge maps and quite a few civs...but, honestly, I have that problem now with my desktop. I really enjoy the massive games, but, sadly the late game is just so slow with the time it takes between turns that I have given up most of the games. The save files are over 1mb and even take quite a while to load. As a result, I have to go no bigger than the Large maps with the default number of civs.

I tried playing FFH2 on my laptop and could only play games on normal maps (stretching it) with the default number of civs.

I used to play on the largest maps all the time, but I would also play on Epic speed, and I cannot recall if I ever completed a full game or not. If I get a chance I'll run some AI AutoPlay games on larger maps to see if my system handles it fairly well or not.

There's no problem with me playing huge maps.; I usually play small or standard maps (with a couple extra civs thrown in) and rarely finish games at that size. The exploration is fun on larger maps, but the number of cities and units involved becomes unwieldy. With my play style, which is slow and deliberate, it would take me months to finish a huge map game.

I usually play until I have a clear advantage in the game, usually no later than turn 300 on normal speed. Once I have victory secured, the rest of game seems more like a task and I start over rather than spend a several long hours mopping up.
