Why is it an AI will come up to you during their turn and offer you a GPT deal for one of your luxs/resources/techs and then if you try and renegotiate for a better price they are either not interested at all or offer much lower GPT?

It's really annoying because sometimes you get a better price out of them and at others they just reject the idea of the trade altogether. Either they are supremely fickle or do they get to trade with others in between their offer and you proposing a new one? What the hell is going on with this? (C3C 1.00)

The interium phase to you is thier turn. That means if you do not do the the deal, they can go to the next player and try a deal. They offer discounts to other AI civs. This tends to mean they will peddle any resources or lux.

When you get control, the item may be gone and if it is a tech, they may have gotten what they need and now want full value from you. Also you may have less free gpt at this point, due to changes in your empire.

The AI is not fickled, you just do not have a complete grasp of its inner workings. BTW you need to get to 1.22 to fix the gold bug that yields double cash to trades for the AI. Many other important fixes really require the patch for sanity, such that it is.
