Field of View thing with the new BUG

I am sure we have all noticed that new Field of View slider in the newest BUG. I love it, and adjust it regularly throughout the game to encompass the area of vision I want.

But there seems to be a minor bug, that doesnt affect anything except visually. It occurs when you go into a City Screen window. The very first screen will be the same Field of View as your slider! It returns back to normal once you click to the next city, and is normal if you come back to the one you opened first, but the very first time you go from regular map-view to city screen view, the very first one is altered.

Let me show you what I mean. Here are 2 screenshots, the first, with the FoV turned way down, to 15. The second is the City Screen when I click on my banner in the GUI.

NOTE: THESE HAVE SPOILER INFO FOR THE HC LHC GAME!! PLEASE DO NOT LOOK IF YOU WISH TO PLAY THAT GAME WITHOUT THIS SPOILER (map and AIS)

Now have a look at the same screenshots, but with the FOV set at 69:

The "exact normal" number appears to be around 46. At 46, the first City Screen looks like it has the same perspective as the next.

NOTE: This isnt a complaint or rant post, I am just explaining what I am sure we have all seen, that first city screen being zoomed way out because our FoV is set above 60. Not sure its even a bug, sometimes seeing that extra row of tiles around a city is useful. Kinda posting because I am excited I figured it out, LOL, its been buggin me a while.

This behaviour was noted during discussion of the field of view (FoV) feature when I was adding it to BUG. We tried to eliminate it but there is nothing we can do. If you check the HOF mod (where we lifted the FoV from), they do not reset the city screen value when cycling thru cities - you stay zoomed out / in for every city.

oh - can I post about your city placement? :D

putting your capital 1 tile W would have included an extra hill and then you could have had a rocking city 1 tile S of the 2 Eastern most phants (4 grassland phants plus horses) with very little tile overlap. You probably couldn't see that far ahead when you settled - but it would have been nice.

Is there a way to turn off the FoV slider? It doesn't really help me and I keep accidentally clicking on it when I want to find the barbarian that just appeared :'(
Yes - call up the BUG option screen (Ctrl-Alt-O) and deselect FoV.

Ruff, feel free to toss those comments in this thread properly wrapped in spoiler tags :D

And you probably mean 1 W, for the description you give from city #2 :p

Sorry rolo, wasnt thinking about that. I made a big, bold notice to the pics so hopefully no one will have their game spoiled.

And I actually like it ruff. I keep the slider between 35 and 55 anyway, so its not super-small/big, so I dont mind at all. The HoF one would bug me though.

Sorry to derail, but what is BUG? I have seen it mentioned here and there in various threads as a good mod, but when I search for it I get nothing. I assume BUG is an acronym, but I have no idea what words it stands for. Thanks for your help.

It's just a Mod that essentially makes information more easily accessible. Very simple to use, and customisable so you can use it as much/little as you want. Searching for it is a bit tough beacuse its only 3 letters , but you can find out all about it here: http://forums.civfanatics.com/showthread.php?t=274636

Yeah, the 3 letter thing is a killer when you don't know what they stand for! :D There was another mod mentioned around here as being essintial as well, but it was also a three letter acronym...can't remember which ones now, though. Thanks for the link!

Thank you a lot for making this topic! :D I've been searching for days now, I've been trying lots of civ4 keyboard shortcuts thinking I had used one on accident, but I couldn't get rid of the zoomed out city screen. I noticed that going to the next city showed its city screen the normal way, and then going back to the original city, it was good as well etc, just like in your description. As I was reading your post, you can imagine that I was getting more and more hopeful.

Adjusting the FoV solved it, brrr it was so annoying, and not even knowing what to search for. Just in case it matters, my searches were:

"small city screen"
"city screen zoomed out"

Anyway, again, thank you very much for making this topic! :D
