Chapter 11: The Two Front War
Part III: Day of Reckoning

The year is 1252 PA, and the people of Tycoon have been locked in a bitter, two-front war against the Esthari to the West and Fiends to the Northeast. While things have been quiet on the Western front since the capture of Fisherman's Horizon, a steady stream of Trolls have been pouring into our territory from the North, and our troops are hard-pressed to fight them off before they plunder and pillage all that we've worked so hard to build.

Two Deinonychus parties maul two bands of Trolls outside Carwen and Kanark, while two of our Minotaurs each defeat a band of Trolls outside Fisherman's Horizon and Kanark. Even though all the Trolls invading our territory are dead, more continue to pour in from the North.

Not all news this year is grim, however. Tycoon Castle readies another Villager party and begins building a Marketplace to boost our revenue, and with the completion of the Iron Road and the acquisition of the knowledge of Feudalism, we begin upgrading all our Bangaa Trackers to Bangaa Gladiators (Bangaa Gladiator = 5,5,2 ignore movement accross mountains and hills, requires Bangaa and Iron), as well as switching the training queue in Tower of Worus and Carwen to Bangaa Gladiators. The training queue in Kanark is also changed to a Gladiator (5,5,1 requires Iron).

Word also arrives via diplomatic channels that Garden and Shinra have signed a peace treaty, which is good, except for the fact that we did not even know they were at war in the first place!

1258 PA, Science Advisor Cid announces that his crack team of political scientists have developed a plan for running a Monarchy. Queen Reina decides to put of changing the government until we get the Marketplace in Tycoon Castle finished (among other things). Ritz Malheur, the Foreign Advisor gifts Construction to Garden in order to keep them from falling too far behind in research.

On the battle front, this year is a day of reckoning for the Fiends: Two Deinonychus parties and a Bangaa Gladiator party mercilessly slaughter three bands of Trolls between Carwen and Kanark without taking a single loss.

The Bangaa Gladiator party North of Carwen is then attacked by three bands of Trolls, and while they impale the first two waves of Trolls on their spears, the third band kills them to the last Bangaa and more Trolls pour into our territory through the gap that is opened up with the death of our Bangaa.

Lonka builds its Temple in 1264 PA and begins construction of a Town Hall.... Graft and Corruption is already becoming a huge problem in the Kingdom, but switching to a Monarchy will help that somewhat. Tower of Worus finishes training another Bangaa Gladiator party and also begins building a Marketplace... The Kingdom of Tycoon will hopefully soon become a merchant's paradise, with Gil flowing into our coffers.

Two elite Deinonychus parties finish off the last two bands of Trolls in our territory. It would seem that the last of the Trolls from the Massive Horde of Fiends (yes, that does merit the capital letters) have finally been slain!

Cloud sends an emissary later asking to trade World Maps and Chief Advisor Takayama accepts immediately. The entirety of the Gongaga Peninsula, as well as the town of Gongaga itself is revealed to the North of 7th Heaven. The last nomadic Native Village on the continent is also revealed to the Northeast of North Corel. The emissary also reports that AVALANCHE has started building the Temple of the Goddess.

Merchant caravans traveling through the capitol later in the year also report that the Shinra Corporation has founded Rocket Town on the East coast of the Shinra Peninsula, while Galbadia has established the town of Nectar on the coast Southeast of Lonka.

They also report that Esthar has founded Shumi Village along the Fisherman's Horizon River to the Northwest of Fisherman's Horizon... Hopefully we'll have enough troops to capture the town (and its Iron mine) around the time our Military Alliance with AVALANCHE expires.

The influence of Jacole expands a second time during the year 1270, bringing more territory under our sway, as well as giving us a solid border with the Garden town of Timber. Carwen finishes training another Bangaa Gladiator party and begins building a Marketplace. The Bangaa Gladiators are sent to destroy a den of Fiends that likely served as the gathering point for the massive horde of Trolls that had so recently plagued our kingdom.

Another veteran Minotaur emerges from the Tomb of the Unknown King in Tycoon Castle in 1276. That same year, construction on the Marketplace in Tycoon Castle is finally complete and Queen Reina orders construction on the Ru'lude Gardens to commence. She then calls up Chief Advisor Takayama and Domestic Advisor Sarisa and tells them to start the transition from a Tribal Council to a Monarchy. They enact the Transition Plan immediately, plunging the Kingdom into a short period of chaos as they begin implementing the government reforms. (2 turns of Anarchy.... Boy do I love Religious civilizations!)

In the far North, the Settler party, escorted by a veteran Deinonychus party has finally completed their perilous journey through the Northern Frontier:

The town of Istory is founded on the Istory Peninsula, and a canal is quickly dug between the Istory Sea and the Wutai Sea. Now merchant vessels can travel between the Arctic Ocean and the Wutai Sea, and the best part is that WE control the access point! The town mayor tells his people to start building a Shrine as soon as the dust from the government transition settles.

In 1282 PA, while the chaos of the government transition is going on, the Weaver's Shop in Lonka produces another Treasure shipment, which is picked up by the Bangaa Gladiators in Lonka and hauled back to Tycoon Castle. Another Bangaa Gladiator party destroys a den of Fiends to the West of Jacole and collects 25 Gil worth of loot, however they spot a Ghost Ship on the Wutai Sea! (Ghost Ship = Barb sea unit in this mod and its stats are: 4,3,3, transports 5 units)

The Government Transition ends in 1288 with a well-ordered Monarchy established in the Tycoon Kingdom. Reina's first act as High Queen is to allot money from our HUGE stash of Gil to hire extra workers to hurry the Shrine in Istory and the Town Hall in Lonka.

The current plan is to have ALL towns have a Shrine, a Temple, a Town Hall, a Marketplace and a Barracks in them, followed by a Library and a Harbor for Coastal towns.

1294 PA, Fisherman's Horizon finishes planting its Rubber Plantation and begins building a Shrine. Lonka completes its Town Hall in record time and begins building a Marketplace. Istory finishes its Shrine and starts building a Temple, while Jacole finishes training a Bangaa Gladiator party and begins building a Barracks. The Bangaa Gladiators are sent North to destroy the Den of Fiends that spawned the HUGE horde that was spotted earlier by our ill-fated elite Deinonychus party. Tower of Worus also trains a Bangaa Gladiator party and begins building a Marketplace.

In the meantime, a pack of Bandersnatches is spotted in the forests South of Kanark, and we receive word that President Rufus Shinra has begun construction on the Morhen Lighthouse.

Villager parties building a road into the hills outside Fisherman's Horizon spot a band of wounded Trolls in the frontier between Fisherman's Horizon and Esthar, so a Bangaa Gladiator party is sent from Fisherman's Horizon to protect them, while the Knight party that was guarding them is sent to reinforce the town's garrison.

In the East, Kanark finishes training the first Gladiator party and begins building a Temple, while a Deinonychus party from Kanark kills the Bandersnatch pack spotted earlier.

A little while later, Cid announces that the Temple of the Ancients has paid off once again:

We have learned the secrets of Engineering and how to run a Republic from visiting scholars, so Cids research team begins studying Monotheism. Now that we have the knowledge of Engineering, we can build Trebuchets, plant forests, bridge rivers and train Velociraptor parties, as well as upgrading our existing Deinonychus parties.

Word also reaches the capitol that the Shinra Corporation has started building the South Gate (South Gate = The Great Wall).

Another Veteran Minotaur emerges from the Tomb of the Unknown King in 1306 PA, on top of which, the influence of Tycoon Castle expands for the third time, making it one of the most culturally influential cities on the planet! The Incense Manufactory in Carwen and the Iron Foundry in Jacole also produce treasure shipments this year.

Carwen finishes training a Bangaa Gladiator party and begins building a Marketplace, while Sephiroth begins mutating all our Deinonychus parties into Velociraptor parties. The Expansion of Tycoon Castle's Influence reveals yet another Fiend den in the area, and a Bangaa Gladiator party is sent forth to deal with them.

At this time, Rally-Bo, a dwarf known to Queen Reina appearst at Court and offers to establish a Dwarven Engineer's Guild in one of our cities, since we know the secrets of Engineering now. Queen Reina aggrees and authorizes Chief Advisor Takayama to change the production in Tower of Worus to the Dwarf Engineer's Guild. (Dwarf Engineer's Guild is a Small Wonder that boots city production and generates a Dwarf Engineer Squad every 15 turns. Dwarf Engineer Squads can either improve terrain at twice the speed of normal workers OR found cities.... I'm likely to use them to build a road to the selected city spot, then found the city, at least until all the territory has been claimed).

Chief Advisor Takayama also requests and is granted funding to rush the Temple in Istory and the Marketplace in Lonka.

The Bangaa Gladiator party outside Fisherman's Horizon finishes off the band of Wounded Trolls and then spots a fiend den nearby as well as two Esthar Warrior parties, one of which attacks and kills the Bangaa Gladiators. (how a 2,2,1 unit managed to kill a 5,5,2 unit is beyond me :spear: )

In 1312 PA, Istory not only completes its Temple, but its influence expands as well.... Soon the Spices in the nearby forest will be ours! Istory begins building a Town Hall to help keep Corruption down. The Bangaa Gladiators hauling the Treasure shipment from Jacole finally reach Tycoon Castle, bringing a much-needed boost to our treasury, while the Bangaa Gladiator party from Tycoon Castle wipes out the den of fiends in the South.

Ritz Malheur sells Philosophy to Garden for their World Map, and Literature to Shinra for their World Map.

A Minotaur that was guarding Fisherman's Horizon butchers the Esthar Warrior party that killed our Bangaa Gladiators, but two more Esthar Warrior parties move into position to attack Fisherman's Horizon. Since a majority of the citizens consider themselves to be subjects of the Tycoon Kingdom (2 to 1), it is our duty to protect them!

Fisherman's Horizon completes construction of its Shrine in 1318 PA and begins building a Temple. During what will be known as the Second Battle of Fisherman's Horizon, a regular Velociraptor party and a regular Knight party massacre both attacking Esthar Warrior parties. A veteran Minotaur destroys the Fiend den between Esthar and Fisherman's Horizon while in the far North, our Bangaa Gladiator party finally wipes out the Fiend Den that spawned at least half the Troll bands that attacked us during the war. These would be the last major combat actions in the Two Front War.

More importantly:

Tower of Worus completes the Dwarf Engineer's Guild, and its production now rivals that of Tycoon Castle. The town begins training a Velociraptor party. In the Southeast, Lonka's sphere of influence expands again, and another Fiend den is spotted between Tycoon Castle and Lonka.

Another Settler party has gathered at the Palace in Tycoon Castle, and they are sent to claim a nice spot to the Northwest of Tower of Worus. The site in question is along the Southern coast of the Wutai sea and is between two herds of Cattle and next to a freshwater lake. Plans have been drafted to build a Canal through the town to connect the lake to the Wutai Sea so that our Naval vessels can take refuge in the lake during bad storms or to escape pursuit by enemy vessels.

Chief Advisor Takayama hires extra workers to speed up construction on the Town Hall in Istory and the Barracks in Jacole.

Later that year, Commander Cloud Strife of AVALANCHE meets with Queen Reina and informs her that since our Military Alliance against Esthar has expired, he has no wish to extend it, and Queen Reina graciously aggrees... We were planning on ending this war soon anyways. We do, however, sell them the secrets of how to run a Republic along with our World Map for their World Map.

The year 1324 marks the end of the Two Front War when Ritz Malheur, the Foreign Advisor, brokers a peace treaty with President Laguna Loire of Esthar. No damages are to be paid by either side and we are allowed to keep the territory we conquered. Peace, with the exception of the ever-present threat of Fiend attacks, has returned to the Kingdom of Tycoon once again.

In other diplomatic news, we trade Territory maps with Commander Squall Leonhart of Garden, and find that despite us having a road linking us to their town of Timber, they don't have any roads going from Balamb to Timber and so we still cannot trade with them. Since we have a Right of Passage agreement with them, Chief Advisor Takayma considers sending a Villager party into their territory to help build up their infrastructure a bit, but we still have a lot of work to do on OUR infrastructure.

Ritz also notices that the Shinra Corporation has finally entered the Age of Chivalry (middle ages), so she meets with President Rufus Shinra, and it turns out that they have discovered Monotheism before anyone else did (Shinra Corporation is scientific, if you might recall, ant Monotheism was the free tech they got for aging up). Ritz quickly trades Feudalism to them for Monarchy and Cid begins researching a code of Chivalry (so we can build Lord Mi'ihen's Crusaders).

Jacole finishes construction of its Barracks in record time and begins building a Town Hall. Istory finishes building its Town Hall and begins recruiting a Villager party (we MUST get those spices hooked up!), while Chief Advisor Takayama spends more Gil to hurry construction of the Temple in Fisherman's Horizon.

A Bangaa Gladiator party annihilates the Fiend Den Southwest of Lonka and are promoted to veteran status for their bravery. They are then attacked by a second pack of Bandersnatches that had left the den shortly before. After a short battle that sees the giant wolves skewered on the lizard-men's spears, the Bangaa Gladiators are promoted to elite status.

So it is with the long, bloody war finally over and the Kingdom of Tycoon entering a new era of peace and prosperity that this chapter ends.

Here's the Territory map of the Tycoon Kingdom at the end of the war:

Chapter 12: 80 Years of Peace

The year is 1330 PA, and one of the longest, most bloody wars in the history of the Tycoon Kingdom, if not the world, had finally ground to a close. The results of the bloody conflict were several hundred Esthari troops dead, an almost equal number of our troops dead, several thousand Trolls slaughtered and only a single town, Fisherman's Horizon, changing hands.

Now that particular era of constant bloodshed is behind us, Queen Reina calls a meeting of her advisors to form a strategy on how best to take advantage of the most likely to be short period of peace.

"We need to allocate funding to ensure that, at minimum, each town in the Kingdom has a Shrine, Temple, Town Hall and Barracks before the next war," Chief Advisor Takayama states, "It would also be advantageous to have Marketplaces and Libraries in all towns as well... Goodness knows we could use both the money and research capabilities. Still, keeping our people happy, increasing our cultural influence, having places to re-fit and upgrade troops as well as reducing Corruption and Graft should take priorty." He scowls and adds, "ESPECIALLY reducing corruption and graft! I've received some anonymous tips that the 'nobility' in several of our more remote towns are stealing at least HALF the materials and Gil produced there."

Queen Reina nods and says, "Those are valid points, Hikaro and that seems to be a sensible plan of action from the infrastructure and political standpoint. I also agree with the need to keep those crooked politicians in check; I'm getting rather tired of them myself! Does anyone else have anything to add?"

General Sephiroth, the Military Advisor looks up and says, "Your Majesty, I feel compelled to remind you that we should not neglect the military.... Especially since we can now train our unique Berserker parties." Smiling he continues, "We can thank my former employers for giving us that tactical advantage, since they DID trade their knowledge of Monotheism to us." (Note: Berserker is Tycoon's first UU, and has the same stats as a Sell Sword (6,3) but +1 movement, and like the Sell Sword, it requires Iron).

Yuna, the Cultural Advisor speaks up and says, "Speaking of Monotheism, we can now build Churches, which will make a lot of people happy, not to mention increase our influence even more."

Queen Reina replies, "You both have valid points, therefore, since Fisherman's Horizon has completed construction of its Temple, have them start training a Berserker party, General Sephiroth. Also, have all Knight parties report to the nearest Barracks for upgrade to Berserker parties."

She continues, "Since Lonka has launched its Galley, Yuna, I want you to have them start building a Church there. Chief Advisor Takayama, I grant you permission to allocate funds to hire extra workers to hurry construction of the Town Hall in Jacole and the Marketplace in Carwen. I hope this strategy of yours pays off before too long."

Queen Reina then looks around and says, "Very well, this meeting is adjourned. You are all free to go about your business."

Trade Advisor Krile Baldesion is informed that the Rubber Plantation in Tycoon Castle has produced another Treasure shipment, so she has some Bangaa Gladiators haul it to the marketplace, where it is sold off for 300 Gil.

Word also reaches us that the SeeDs have started construction of the Alexandria Castle in Balamb, and Esthar has started building the Temple of the Goddess.

In 1336 PA, Fisherman Horizon's influence expands, and another Minotaur emerges from the Tomb of the Unknown King in Tycoon Castle. Carwen completes construction of its state of the art Marketplace and begins building a Town Hall. Jacole builds a Town Hall, and the mayor sends the newly-formed constabulary to arrest the biggest offenders involved in Graft and Corruption in the town. The town's productivity and income increase dramatically. The Mayor then begins recruiting a Villager party to get the surrounding terrain improved somewhat faster. (we're still about 4 Villagers short of our 2 Villager per town goal) Tower of Worus finishes training a Velociraptor party and begins building a Marketplace. Hopefully soon our money problems will be over.

Later that year, we receive word from roving Spice merchants that AVALANCHE has started construction of the Ru'lude Gardens. Since we're nearing completion of that project, nobody loses any sleep over this news.

A Galbadian Galley appears off our Southeast coast... We don't know if they're just exploring or if they're trying to swipe one of our potential future town sites down there....

In 1342, the Settler party that left Tycoon Castle a while back reaches the coastal location between the freshwater lake and two herds of Cattle:

Tule is founded and the people begin building a Shrine. Now our dominance of the Southeast shore of the Wutai Sea is virtually guaranteed. Workmen in the Town immediately build a canal through Tule linking Tule Lake to the Wutai Sea.

Kanark completes construction of its Temple and begins building a Town Hall.

We also learn through diplomatic channels that the Shinra Corporation has started building the Temple of the Goddess and AVALANCHE has started building the Alexandria Castle. We also hear that AVALANCHE has completed construction of the Morhen Lighthouse, which will give them a significant advantage in navigating the seas.

In the North, a band of Trolls appears in our territory near Istory!

1348 PA, our Minotaur in Istory sallies forth and hacks the band of Trolls to pieces, takes up guard over the Spice forest to prevent further fiend incursions. The Bangaa Gladiator party in the North finishes mapping the North coast of our continent and begins heading back towards Istory.

Jacole, our Native town finishes recruiting a Villager party and begins building a Marketplace.

President Rufus of the Shinra Corporation sends an envoy offering to trade World Maps with us and we accept. He also tells Queen Reina that the Shinra Corporation is also building the Temple of the Goddess.

the year 1354 PA marks another momentous occasion in the Kingdom of Tycoon's History:

We complete construction of the Ru'lude Gardens in Tycoon Castle, and this accomplishment of civic pride makes people all across the kingdom happy. (Ru'lude Gardens makes 3 people happy in the city that builds it and 1 person happy in all other cities). Chief Advisor Takayama, a.k.a "The Reverend" begins construction of a Church right next to the Gardens.

Istory finishes recruiting a Villager party, who is sent to build a road to the Spice forest, and begins building a Library.

Commander Cloud Strife of AVALANCHE sends an envoy to Queen Reina asking to end the Right of Passage aggreement with us, but Foreign Advisor Ritz Malheur gets them to extend it by giving them our world map.

We also get word that Garden is building the Temple of the Goddess

In 1360 PA, Tower of Worus finishes building its Marketplace and begins building a Library. The Deinonychus party in Jacole is upgraded to a Velociraptor party, and Cheif Advisor Takayama allocates funds to hurry production of a Library in Istory.

A Bandersnatch pack appears West of Jacole and is headed for our Villager party building a road there, and the Bangaa Gladiator party in Jacole is sent to block their path. The pack of Bandersnatches tries to sneak past our Bangaa Gladiator party, but they are spotted and some get spears hurled into them (All Bangaa and Dragoon type units (Warrior, Gladiator, Lancer and Dragoon) have Zone of Control) as they run past.

In 1366 PA, the Bangaa Gladiator party intercepts the rest of the Bandersnatch pack and finished them off before they can kill our Villagers.

Another Minotaur emerges from the Tomb of the Unknown King and is sent North to guard the town site along the river near the Goblins in the far North. Carwen finishes building its Town Hall, and corruption and graft virtually disappear overnight. The town Mayor, enjoying his new digs, has the militia commander start training a Berserker party at the Barracks. The Incense Manufactory in Carwen also produces another Treasure shipment, which the local Bangaa Gladiator party hauls back to Tycoon Castle and sells off for 300 Gil.

Up North, Istory finishes building its Library and begins buiding a Marketplace. Chief Advisor Takayama hires a bunch of day laborers in Jacole to hurry construction of the Marketplace there.

Later, General Sephiroth reports to Queen Reina that Galbadian troops have been spotted moving into our territory. It looks like our time of peace may be short-lived indeed! Queen Reina hears Chief Advisor Takayama muttering something along the lines of "I seems the AI is too stupid to learn anything from past mistakes," but she chalks that up to the stress that the Chief Advisor has been under lately, what with trying to get our infrastructure built up.

Word reaches us at the end of the year that the Shinra Corporation has begun building the Alexandria Castle.

1372 PA sees General Sephiroth along with Chief Advisor Takayama overseeing troop movements in the East to reinforce Jacole, Kanark and Lonka, the three towns likely to be targeted first by the Galbadians if they do, indeed decide to attack us. The Minotaur that was heading towards the potential city site in the North is re-routed to Lonka, and a Velociraptor party from Kanark is sent to reinforce Lonka, while one of the Minotaurs picks up the Treasure shipment that was produced by the Weaver's Shop and begins hauling it back to Tycoon Castle. The Archer party guarding Lonka is also sent out of the town to guard our silk forest... We cannot afford an interruption in the silk trade! Since a Galbadian Archer party is spotted in the Hills near Jacole, one of the Archer parties in Jacole is sent to guard the Iron mines in the Iron Hills outside Jacole. Jacole also begins training a Gladiator party since it has completed construction of its Marketplace.

To the West of Jacole, our Bangaa Gladiator party is almost in position to attack the Fiend den, when they spot more Ghost Ships on the Wutai Sea!

Tycoon Castle finishes building Chief Advisor Takayama's Church and General Sephiroth starts training a veteran Berserker party. Fisherman's Horizion finishes training a Berserker party and begins building a Town Hall. The berserker party begins the long trek to Lonka.

A Garden Deinonychus party moves into our territory near Jacole some time later (although that's no major concern, since we have a Right of Passage aggreement with them), and appears to be moving in on the Fiend Den spotted by our Bangaa Gladiator a while back. In the Southeast, MORE Galbadian troops are massing in our territory outside Lonka... Looks like we'll be dragged into yet another war soon.

Tower of Worus finishes building its Library in 1378 PA and begins training a Velociraptor party. Our Bangaa Gladiator party slays all the Bandersnatches in the Fiend den West of Jacole and collects 25 Gil worth of loot. The Bangaa Gladiators are ordered to guard that spot, since that is where our next Settler will be sent to found a town.... There's a den of Giant Spiders nearby which will make handy combat creatures in the future. The Minotaur from Lonka brings the Treasure shipment to Tycoon Castle, while the Minotaur from Tycoon Castle finally reaches Lonka and joins the Garrison, and in the nick of time, too!

Despte having a military that is WEAK compared to ours, Sorceress Edea, in her infinite "wisdom" decides to attack us, and our 80 years of peace come crashing to an end. The Bangaa Gladiator party and Velociraptor party in Lonka kill the two Galbadian warrior parties that are foolish enough to attack the town.

Thus it is, with the flames of war spreading once again, that this chapter comes to a close.

Galbadia are the biggest jerks. They sneak-attacked me constantly in my Lesalia game. They ended up getting Meteor'd by me. Too bad all their UUs are in the Age of Machina. I wanted to see the Ironclad in action.

Galbadia are the biggest jerks. They sneak-attacked me constantly in my Lesalia game. They ended up getting Meteor'd by me. Too bad all their UUs are in the Age of Machina. I wanted to see the Ironclad in action.

You actually had to resort to calling Meteor down on their sorry butts?! I've NEVER had to drop any Meteors on anyone (although I did it once in a test game to make sure that all the animations worked right).

I'm thinking that maybe I should kick the aggression rating back on some of the civs... the situation in the next chapter is going to be awfully familliar to those who've been following my Age of Imperialism story (which I'll get back to once this one's done), but with one MAJOR difference: THIS time, I'm NOT starting off as the smallest and weakest civ on the planet with the crappiest unit lineup.... FAR from it, as a matter of fact.

Chapter 13: The World War
Part I: Entangling Alliances

The year is 1384 PA, and the Tycoon Kingdom, the largest as well as arguably the richest and most powerful nation on the planet is at war with Galbadia, the SECOND largest nation on the planet, but one that is somewhat outnumbered and vastly out-classed by Tycoon's well-trained cadre of fast moving troops.

Unfortunately, due to the Kingdom's size, shifting its war machine into gear is going to take some time, but the critical front-line towns and resources are in no immediate danger of capture. As a part of the general mobilization of the Tycoon Armed forces, Carwen and Tycoon both finish training Berserker parties, who are sent along the Silk road to Kanark and Lonka. Chief Advisor Takayama shells out 160 Gil to hurry production of the Church in Lonka so that the city can begin immediate construction of a Barracks.

In the North, our Villager parties complete the road to the Spice forest on the border with AVALANCHE, and in the process, also link up with the AVALANCHE Highway, so we now have a trade route linking Tycoon Castle and 7th Heaven. The production in Istory is immediately switched to building a Spice Factory, and Chief Advisor Takayama allocates emergency funding to rush construction of the Spice factory. Our Bangaa Gladiator party which had been mapping the Northern coastline reaches Istory, and our last Deinonychus party and Bangaa Tracker party are ordered to report to the Barracks in Jacole for upgrade.

In Fisherman's Horizon, the Rubber Plantation produces a Treasure shipment and a Velociraptor party in the town loads it up and hauls it back to Tycoon Castle.

In war action, a veteran Berserker party attacks a veteran Galbadian Warrior party and cuts them to ribbons. An elite Bangaa Gladiator party from Lonka repeats this performance with another Warrior party outside Lonka, whike one of our veteran Velociraptor parties feels incredibly bold and defeats a Galbadian Warrior party just inside the Galbadian border. More Galbadian troops move into our territory, however.

Our one-ship navy is thoroughly disgraced, however, when our veteran Galley is sunk trying to send a DAMAGED Galbadian Galley to the bottom.

During an emergency strategy session, General Sephiroth and Chief Advisor Takayama agree that the target for our first strike in this war would be Galbadia Garden. The grove of Cocoa trees and Hot Springs in the hills as well as a grove of Rubber trees in the nearby forest would make that city a great asset, once it is developed. If taking that town is does not prove to be too costly, after a short rest to re-arm all our units, we would then press on to the next objective: Deling City, the Galbadian capitol.

In 1390 PA, Science Advisor Cid has some good news:

We have completed research into the code of Chivalry, which will not only allow us to train Chocobo Knights (6,3,2 requires Iron and Chocobos), but also to build the headquarters of Lord Mi'ihen's Crusaders. (Lord Mi'ihen's Crusaders = The Knights Templar, but the Crusaders produces by Lord Mi'ihen's Crusaders are 7,3,2 with Zone of Control).

Queen Reina congratulates Cid and has him start researching the mysteries of Magic. Since her sister, Domestic Advisor Sarisa, has just finished recruiting a Villager Party, she summons Chief Advisor Takayama and has him start building Lord Mi'ihen's Crusaders. The Velociraptor party from Fisherman's Horizon arrives in Tycoon Castle soon afterward, and the Royal Treasury gains another 300 Gil for the War Effort.

To the Northwest, Rally-Bo finishes training the first Dwarf Engineer squad at the Dwarf Engineer's Guild in Tower of Worus. The Dwarves immediately depart to improve the terrain around the Goblin city site in the Hasberry Plains, then, once a forest has been planted around the Goblin Village and a road has been built to the flock of Chocobos nearby, they are to found a new town at the selected site along the Crescent River:

Spoiler :

Lonka completes construction of its Church and begins building a Barracks. Istory finishes the Spice Factory in record time and begins building a Church, while our last Deinonychus party and Bangaa Tracker party arrive in Jacole and are upgraded to a Velociraptor party and a Bangaa Gladiator party.

A veteran Berserker party that just arrived in Kanark ambushes a regular Galbadian Archer party attempting to pillage the road leading to our Chocobo flock outside the town. The Archers are slaughtered before they can get off more than a single volley of arrows off.

The Galbadians, apparently realizing that they are doomed, sign the Shinra Corporation into a military alliance against us. Fat lot of good it will do either of them!

News also reaches us this year that Garden has founded the town of Roshfall Forest on the Northern coast among the Barrier Mountain range, next to some Iron Deposits and a large school of Fish. Roshfall Forest is Garden's first coastal town. AVALANCHE founds the town of Niebelheim on the West coast of the Gongaga Peninsula, between Gongaga and Fort Condor, and Esthar builds the town of Grandidi Forest on the coast, directly West of Esthar.

In 1396 PA, Queen Reina and Commander Squall Leonhart sign a military alliance between the Tycoon Kingdom and Garden to combat the Galbadian Threat in response to Galbadia's alliance with the evil Shinra Corporation.

The Galbadians respond to the news of our alliance with Garden by signing another alliance against us with Esthar.... Apparently Esthar didn't learn anything from the LAST war they fought against us. Since Esthar is already at war with AVALANCHE (and has been ever since we drew AVALANCHE into our war with them), that means that EVERY nation on the planet is at war with another nation. This tangles mass of interlocking alliances and wars will be remebered by history as the World War.

Almost as if on cue, a Minotaur emerges from the Tomb of the Unknown King and is sent to the Galbadian Front. A Velociraptor party that has just completed training in Tower of Worus also begins the long trip to the front. The Iron Foundry in Jacole produces another Treasure shipment and a Minotaur picks it up and starts hauling it back to the Capitol. The mayor of Kanark recieves orders to change production to a Barracks... Getting Barracks in all our towns is the NEW development priority now that we are at war.

Later that year, some traveling scholars visiting the Temple of the Ancients in Tycoon Castle leave some books behind:

We now know the secrets of Invention. Not only will we be able to upgrade all our Archer parties into Ranger parties, but we'll also be able to build Cid's Workshop, which will considerably reduce the cost of upgrades (In the FF mod, Cid's Workshop, which halves upgrade costs, is a SMALL Wonder, due to the fact that the unit lines in the FF mod are more streamlined than in the epic game, thus upgrade costs, past the Middle Ages, are ASTRONOMICAL unless you have this wonder, and if it were a GREAT wonder, then the faction that had it would have an overwhelming advantage over the others, since it's still far more efficient to upgrade existing units rather than disband obsolete ones and train new ones).

In the year 1402, Tule, our newest town, finishes building a Shrina and starts building a Trebuchet, our first artillery unit. General Sephiroth is skeptical about the usefulness of the ungainly siege engine, but Chief Advisor Takayama replies, "Trust me: Artillery will allow us to win battles FAR more easily with far LESS casualties than if we didn't have any... I have plenty of experience in this area!" He then muttered something along the lines of "damn arrogant British never knew what hit them!" but nobody could figure out what he meant by that.

Jacole, after it finishes training a Gladiator party, also begins building a Trebuchet, as does Carwen since its latest Berserker party is ready for battle. General Sephiroth then begins ordering all Archer parties to report to the nearest Barracks. There, they are issued boiled-leather vests and thigh-high boots also made of boiled leather as well as heavy padded cotten shirts and trousers, which offer superior protection against enemy ranged and melee weapons They are then given brand-new longbows and improved arrows, which will give them greater range, accuracy and killing power. The newly upgraded Ranger parties then begin traveling back to defend their posts.

Chief Advisor Takayama allocates funding to hire enough extra workers to get the Barracks in Lonka built in record time, while the Minotaur from Jacole finally reaches Tycoon Castle with its Treasure shipment.

In an effort to show that they are willing to do their share, a Garden Deinonychus party and Warrior party travel through our territory to join the fight in Galbadia.

1408 PA, Fisherman's Horizon finishes building its Town Hall, causing all the local government officials to toe the line better. The town then begins building another Trebuchet, as does Lonka, since its Barracks are complete. Kanark's influence expands a second time, bringing more territory under our control. Carwen finishes building its Trebuchet and begins recruiting a Villager party. General Sephiroth receives a report from the Royal Quartermaster that all the Archer parties have now been upgraded to Ranger parties.

He thanks the Royal Quartermaster, then sends a dispatch to Lonka ordering the units massed in the town to move into position for the assault on Galbadia Garden.

Just North of Lonka, a Garden Deinonychus party slaughters a Galbadian Archer party in our territory, and Queen Reina sends her congratulations to the Garden Deinonychus handlers. We also get word that the Shinra Corporation has founded the town of Mount Niebel to the Southeast of Dollet.

In 1414 PA, Tower of Worus builds a Church and starts training a Ranger party. Istory expands for a second time, and now the Goblin Village falls into a narrow corridor of our territory linking Istory to Jacole. We can now train Goblin units, but the best Goblin unit available is still inferior to our Berserkers (Goblin Skirmisher = 6,3,2 -1HP, while Berserker = 6,3,2 and they both have the same cost), so we don't really gain much. Carwen finishes recruiting a Villager party (we ALMOST are at the two Villager parties per town goal) and begins training another Berserker party.

In the Southeast, the Battle of Galbadia Garden commences with our veteran Minotaur leading the way. A regular Galbadian Archer party tries to block the way, but our tough Minotuar shrugs off the wounds caused by the flying arrows and hacks the archers to pieces with his massive axe. A veteran Berserker party following in his wake charges into a second regular Archer party trying to finish off the wounded Minotuar and massacres them before they can react to the new threat.

With the last of the defenders dead, the Berserkers march straight into the town center and claim the town, along with 77 Gil, for the Kingdom of Tycoon. The Rest of the attacking force moves in to help occupy the town and rest up before the push to Deling City. The military governor orders the citizens to start building a Shrine.

So it is with every nation at war and a severe blow dealt to Galbadia that this part of the story comes to a close.

You actually had to resort to calling Meteor down on their sorry butts?! I've NEVER had to drop any Meteors on anyone (although I did it once in a test game to make sure that all the animations worked right).

Who says I *had* to? It was late in the modern age, I already had military dominance over every other nation, and I just felt like dropping some overkill on my enemies.

Author's Note: Sorry I haven't updated this story for the past two days, however, I just lost my job due to the wonderful stinking economy, and was too bummed out to write anything the past two days. On the up side, I'll have more time to work on Civ III stuff and this story now.

Anyways, now for:

Chapter 13: The World War
Part II: Drang Nach Sud-osten :p

The year is 1420 PA, and once again, Queen Reina Tycoon has called a meeting of her Royal Advisors in the Council Chambers at the Palace in Tycoon Castle. This meeting is about how to proceed in the war against the aggression of the Galbadian Republic.

Sarisa Tycoon, the Queen's sister and Domestic Advisor puts forth the first suggestion:

"The Kingdom has grown to the point that we should build the Hidden Palace to keep a better eye on things in the Kingdom," she adds.

The Queen's Chief Advisor, Hikaro Takayama nods and says to the Queen, "I think we should build it in either Jacole or Galbadia Garden... Jacole has the potential to become a production powerhouse, once we get the surrounding area developed, but Galbadia Garden, even without any kind of businesses or economic improvements, is already an economic and production powerhouse... Even as crippled as it is by graft and corruption, the city is STILL more productive than most of our outlying areas. If we built the Hidden Palace there, whoever is put in charge will be able to keep the local officials nicely in line!"

General Sephiroth, the Military advisor sits up and adds, "I'd also like to point out to your Majesty that Galbadia Garden is also in a STRATEGIC location for our Eastern defenses.... Having it as a second 'capitol' would be in our interests from a purely military stance as well."

Queen Reina nods and says, "Those are very good suggestions, but first we need to develop the town's basic infrastructure.... Chief Advisor Takayama, you are authorized to spend whatever money from the treasury is needed to hurry construction of a Shrine, Rubber Plantation, Cocoa Plantation, Hot Springs Resort and Town Hall. THEN you shall PERSONALLY see to the construction of the Forbidden Palace. Is there anything else that requires my attention?"

Krile Baldesion, the Trade Advisor announces that the Rubber Plantation in Tycoon Castle has produced another Treasure shipment, which has been sold off for 300 Gil. Cultural Advisor Yuna Reports that funds have been allocated to hurry production of a Church in Istory, while General Sephiroth reports that Fisherman's Horizon and Jacole have completed construction of some Trebuchets.

"Speaking of which," Chief Advisor Takayama says, "The General and I would like to invite everyone, especially your Majesty," he nods to Queen Reina, "to Fisherman's Horizon for an artillery demonstration."

The Queen replies, "I'd most certainly like to see this, so everyone is dismissed."

After the advisors pack up and take the several days to travel to Fisherman's Horizon, General Sephiroth begins the demonstration by explaining how the Trebuchets work, followed by his gesture pointing towards an irrigated field just across the border inside Esthar, he says, "And now, your Majesty, if you'll direct your attention to that field there, my artillerymen will demonstrate these weapons' effectiveness."

Sephiroth then draws his huge katana, and brings it down and forward in a signal for the crews to commence bombardment. Soon, the Trebuchet battery is lobbing one-ton boulders through the air in lazy arcs. The neatly-cultivated fields are pounded into mud and the road winding through them is obliterated by the bombardment. Sephiroth turns to the Queen once again and says, "These weapons should significantly reduce the number of our casualties in coming battles."

Queen Reina replies, "Very well, General, see to it that all available ones are deployed to the front."

In the Southeast, a Garden Deinonychus party kills an unidentified Galbadian unit, while more Galbadian Warrior parties move into the area around Galbadia Garden.

In 1426 PA, before the Galbadian reinforcements can attack Galbadia Garden, The first Trebuchet battery arrives in Galbadia Garden, and bombards the invading troops, wounding several Archers. Our troops in the town then charge out to meet them: The elite Bangaa Gladiator party kills a regular Galbadian Archer party and a regular Warrior party before retreating back into town. (Bangaa units, except the Tracker, have blitz ability). Two veteran Berserker parties following the Bangaa slaughter the last two veteran Warrior parties stationed outside the city... The Galbadian counter-attack is completly smashed!

Istory also finishes construction of its Church and begins building a Marketplace that year. Tower of Worus finishes training a Ranger party and begins recruiting a Villager party. Tule builds enough Trebuchets to arm a battery, which is tasked with guarding the town and begins building a Temple. The Incense Manufactory in Carwen produces another Treasure, which is hauled into Tycoon Castle by a Bangaa Gladiator party. Lonka finishes arming a Trebuchet battery and begins training a Bangaa Gladiator. The Trebuchet is put to good use bombarding a Galbadian Galley in the Lonka Bay. Several of the Boulders smash into the ship, causing heavy damage.

The Galbadians send an emissary requesting an audience with Queen Reina, but we laugh in his face: We won't stop until we take Deling City and Nectar as well as Galbadia Garden! ....And that's not even taking into account that we still have a long time before our Military Alliance treaty with Garden expires.

Late in the year, observers in Galbadia Garden report that Shinra Chocobo Riders have been spotted in the hills outside the town!

In 1432 PA, our troops begin advancing towards Deling City, and a veteran Ranger party is spotting guarding the Galbadian Capitol! Carwen trains a Berserker Party and begins training a Chocobo Knight party. Tower of Worus recruits a Villager party and begins training a Velociraptor party. Jacole recruits a Villager party, which is sent into Garden territory to help Squall build up his infrastructure. Kanark also finishes recruiting a Villager party and begins building a Marketplace. One of our Minotaurs clears out a fiend den South of Esthar and collects 25 Gil worth of loot.

A band of Trolls that had previously left the Fiend den tries to get revenge on our Minotaur for destroying their home and get slaughtered in the process.

In the Southeast, a Shinra Chocobo Rider party attacks Galbadia Garden, and takes some hits from the Trebuchet battery in the city before crashing into a wall of spears wielded by our elite Bangaa Gladiator party. After a short, fiece struggle, the Shinra Chocobo Riders are completely wiped out.

In 1438 PA, Galbadia Garden finishes building its Shrine and begins building a Rubber Plantation. A Settler party has gathered at the Palace in Tycoon Castle and is sent to claim the town site along the Wutai sea near a den of Giant Spiders (it's the site with the fiend den on it in the previous post), which is currently being guarded by a Bangaa Gladiator party. In the Southeast, a Berserker party arrives in Galbadia Garden and takes up primary city defense.

That same year, the Battle of Deling city commences: A veteran Berserker party attacks the veteran Ranger party guarding the city, but they are forced to retreat under a hail of longbow arrows. A veteran Velociraptor party charging at a regular Ranger party is also forced to retreat. Another veteran Velociraptor party attacking from the flank is able to defeat a third regular Ranger party and is promoted to elite status. A veteran Minotaur finishes off the veteran Ranger party, and a second veteran Minotaur wipes out the last of the regular Ranger party that drove off our veteran Velociraptors earlier:

....And the Galbadian capitol, along with 98 Gil and two Worker parties. Thanks to the delaying action of the three Ranger parties, Edea is able to flee to Centra, which becomes the new Galbadian capitol. The commanding officer of the army now occupying the city begins building a Shrine to commemorate the battle.

Later in the year, Queen Reina has Ritz Malheur, our Foreign Advisor, make contact with President Rufus Shinra and make the following offer:

Rufus accepts our 50 Gil and breaks their alliance with Galbadia and signs a peace treaty with us. Their troops immediately begin leaving the area around Galbadia Garden.

Later on, a pack of Bandersnatches appears to the South of Tycoon Caslte, but they will be dealt with soon enough.

Thus it is, with the war going extremely well, that part II comes to a close.

Chapter 13: The World War
Part III: The Fields of Galbadia

The year is 1444 PA, and the massive global conflict that started 76 years ago shows no sign of ending. The Tycoon Kingdom does, however, complete a great project that will be a big help in the war:

Tycoon Castle has completed construction of the headquarters for Lord Mi'ihen's Crusaders, and Lord Mi'ihen immediately begins training Crusader parties (Lord Mi'ihen's Crusaders = The Knights Templar), while Sephiroth begins training a Chocobo Knight party at the Barracks. One of our veteran Velociraptor parties wipes out a pack of Bandersnatches to the South of Tycoon Castle and is promoted to elite status. A band of Trolls is spotted in the area shortly afterwards.

Chief Advisor Takayama, who has been appointed governor of the newly-formed province of "West Galbadia," allocates funds to hurry planting of the Rubber Plantation in Galbadia Garden.

He also receives word that Galbadian forces are moving in to make an attempt to re-take Deling City, but due to the fact that they are outnumbered and vastly out-classed by our troops in the city, the Chief Advisor is not overly concerned.

1450 PA: Galbadia Garden finishes its Rubber Plantation, and starts building a Hot Springs Resort (Hot Springs Resort makes 2 people happy, produces 2 culture and increases tax revenue, but requires Hot Springs in the city radius and is fairly expensive, unless you're a Commercial, Industrious, Agrucultural or Expansionist civ).

Tower of Worus finishes training another Velociraptor party and begins building Cid's Workshop, which will allow us to reduce unit upgrade costs by 50%. In the area South of Tycoon Castle, our Velociraptor party spots the Fiend den the band of Trolls spotted earlier are using as a base. Bartz' Bangaa Tracker party (which has been upgraded to Bangaa Gladiators, but they still retain the honorific title from their epic victory) is sent to deal with the band of Trolls while the Velociraptors move in on the Fiend den.

Later in the year, President Laguna Loire realizes his complete and utter stupidity in getting suckered into an alliance with the Galbadians against us and asks for a peace treaty. We graciously accept, and the war is now a single-front one with Galbadia. The only action on the Esthari front was the Trebuchet demonstration that destroyed several acres of farmland outside Esthar.

Foreign Advisor Ritz Malheur then trades World Maps with Laguna, which reveals some more fiend dens, but not many near our territory. A band of trolls moves out of the Fiend den South of Esthar to threaten our Bangaa Gladiator party guarding two Villager parties mining the hills outside Fisherman's Horizon.

In 1456 PA, Tycoon Castle finishes training our First Chocobo Knights and begins building an Arena (Arena = Colosseum), while another Minotaur emerges from the Tomb of the Unknown King. Fisherman's Horizon also finishes training a Chocobo Knight party and begins building a Marketplace. The newly-trained units are dispatched to the Eastern Front to hammer Galbadia.

Our Elite Velociraptor South of Tycoon Castle kills the Band of Trolls in our territory, while Bartz' Bangaa Trackers wipe out the fiend den.

In the Far East, our Villager party working inside Garden territory completes a road linking Balamb to Timber and Timber's Iron mines. Even more importantly, that also links the SeeD's capitol to our trade network and we can now trade resources with Squall. Queen Reina begins shipping Chocobos as a gift to Commander Squall to aid his war effort against the Galbadians, while our Villagers move South to build a road through the Trabia Marsh to link Trabia up to Balamb. From there, the Villagers are ordered to extend the road past Trabia down to Galbadia Garden, giving the SeeDs a means to rapidly deploy troops to the Galbadian Front. Plans are also in place to eventually move a Villager party from around Jacole or Istory to help Squall improve his infrastructure.

Another Fiend den is spotted to the North of Garden's territory.

Hikaro Takayama, Chief Advisor to the Crown and Governor of the Province of West Galbadia, allocates funds to hire extra workers to hurry construction of the Hot Springs Resort in Galbadia Garden... A nice, hot bath would definitely hit the spot right now... before ordering the elite Velociraptor party to attack the veteran Galbadian Warrior party outside Deling City. The Galbadians put up a good fight, but their bronze spears are no match for the tough, fast Velociraptors, and they are torn to shreds.

Unfortunately, while our troops were distracted to the South, another Galbadian Warrior party sneaks past and re-captures their two worker parties outside Galbadia Garden. Governor Takayama predicts that victory will be short-lived.

The diplomatic news is also not particularly good: Galbadia, despite being back-stabbed by Shinra earlier, decides to sign them into an alliance against Garden. Queen Reina now is beginning to wonder if dragging our allies into this war was such a good idea, after all....

On a more peaceful note, an Esthar Dwarf Engineer Squad is spotted repairing the damage done to their fields by our trebuchets... Apperantly they also have a Dwarf Engineer's guild.

In 1462 PA, Cid enters the Throne Room and makes the following announcement:

We have mastered the arcane art of Magic! Queen Reina thanks him and has Cid begin studying Theology. Chief Advisor Takayama's reports from the Province of North Galbadia are also good this year: Deling City has finally completed construction of its Shrine and is beginning to build a Hot Springs Resort. Galbadia Garden has completed its Hot Springs Resort and is starting to set up a Cocoa Plantation, on top of which, Galbadia Garden's cultural influence expands. (Cocoa Plantation produces a Treasure every 15 turns and boosts tax revenue by 50%)

To top that off, the report goes on to state that an elite Bangaa Gladiator party killed the invading Galbadian Warriors, while a Berserker party re-captured the Galbadian Workers. The two Trebuchet batteries are also being moved into position to bombard Nectar.

Closer to home, Carwen finishes training our third Chocobo Knight party and begins building a Library. Rally-Bo's Dwarf Engineer's Guild in Tower of Worus finishes training another Dwarf Engineer Squad, which is sent to improve the terrain around Tule. Tule finishes building a Temple and begins recruiting a Villager party at the same time that one of our Villager parties from Tower of Worus completes a road connecting Tule to the rest of trade network.

Lonka finishes training a veteran Bangaa Gladiator party and begins building a Library, while the Weaver's Shop in Lonka also produces another Treasure shipment.

Later that year, AVALANCHE asks for an alliance against Esthar, but we decline: We don't want to have to fight another two-front war! Instead, we trade some of our Incense and the knowledge of the code of Chivalry to Cloud for some of their medicinal Herbs. Some of the disreputable Herb traders bring news that Galbadia decides to start building the Alexandria Castle instead of concentrating on building troops to keep us from handing their asses to them.

1468 PA: Fisherman's Horizon's influence expands a second time, solidifying our border with Esthar... General Sephiroth reports that once the vast frontiers are eliminated, the endless Fiend incursions will be as well.

A Minotaur brings the Treasure shipment from Lonka to Tycoon Caslte, where it brings another 300 Gil into our treasury.

In the Northeast, the Dwarf Engineer Squad has finished the basic improvements ordered for the city site near the Goblins and reaches the designated city site:

The town of Crescent is founded between Istory and Jacole along the Crescent River, giving us a SOLID link between Istory and Jacole. The Dwarves begin building a Shrine in the town to celebrate the end of their labors.

Chief Advisor Takayama hires a bunch of migrant workers to speed up the cultivation of the Cocoa Plantation in Galbadia Garden, and construction of the Hot Springs Resort in Deling City.

A Garden Warrior party is killed outside Deling City by a Galbadian Gladiator party, but our units, including the two Trebuchet batteries, are in position to attack Nectar, on top of which, a Galbadian Warrior party FOOLISHLY decides to leave Nectar... Foolish because they'll need all available troops defending that city considering we have two veteran Velociraptor parties, two veteran Berserker parties, two veteran Minotaurs and a veteran Chocobo Knight party along with two Trebuchet batteries about to hammer that city!

We also receive news that AVALANCHE has built the Temple of the Goddess in 7th Heaven. Squall switches construction to the South Gate, While Esthar switches construction to the Alexandria Castle.

So it is, with our troops poised to strike another severe blow to Galbadia, and no end to the World War in sight, that this part of the story comes to a close.

Chapter 13: The World War
Part IV: Unending Conflict

The year is 1474 PA, and the global conflict continues to rage. In some cases, such as Esthar, Garden and AVALANCHE, the intensity of the conflict, coupled with ever-present Fiend dens near their territory, civilizations have all but given up on founding new cities. Not us, however: Our settler party founds the town of Lix on the Southeast shore of the Wutai Sea near a den of Giant Spiders... Soon we won't have to worry about Fiend dens popping up along the Wutai Sea. Unfortunately, there's still quite a few Ghost Ships prowling the Wutai Sea, but they are trapped and will be sunk as soon as Istory's Naval capabilities are developed.

On the Front, our troops begin the assault on Nectar, hammering the Galbadian town with our two Trebuchet batteries, which score solid hits on the two Ranger parties guarding the town. Our troops begin the assault as soon as the last Trebuchet flings its load of boulders into the town. In the heated melee on the outskirts of town, our veteran Chocobo Knights charge straight into an ambush, bud manage to put the hurt on the regular Ranger party before succumbing to wave after wave of arrows from the rangers' longbows. Chief Advisor Takayama, who was also military governor of the conquered Galbadian territory was overheard comparing what just hapened to some event on his world called "The Battle of Agincourt" that had similar results. The Galbadian Rangers are promoted to veteran status by Edea for their valor against our units, but they don't get to celebrate their victory for long: Leading the next wave of our assault is our veteran Berserker party, howling with rage over the loss of their comrades. The Galbadian Rangers, once again, unleashed storms of arrows into the charging maniacs, but to no avail. The Berserkers would pause in their headlong charge long enough to raise their shields against the hail of arrows before dashing forwards once again. Before the Rangers could loose the fourth barrage of arrows from their longbows, our Berserkers crashed into their line in a snarling mass, and the Rangers were mercilessly slaughtered. The other Ranger party, trying to get revenge on our Berserkers, is flanked by our veteran Velociraptor party, which leaps into the Rangers' ranks from behind. After a short melee with the Rangers pitting their long knives against the Velociraptors' sharp talons and teeth, the Rangers got ripped to shreds. A Minotaur that accomanied the attack moved to the South of Nectar and chopped the Warrior party there to pieces before they could make it back to town. The citizens of Nectar, seeing that all the town's defenders are dead and they have no hope of reinforcement, decide to surrender to our troops. Chief Advisor Takayama installs a new mayor and collects 58 Gil from the town's treasury before ordering a Shrine to be built.

So it is that we gain two cities in one year.

Chief Advisor Takayama meets with Queen Reina and Squall Leonhart to decide how to partition Galbadia. It is decided that the three currently occupied cities (Galbadia Garden, Nectar and Deling City), along with Lonka, will be added to a new Tycoon province called "West Galbadia". Galbadia Garden, once it builds the Hidden Palace, will be the Provincial capitol.

Winhill and Lenown Plains will be granted to Garden as a new Garden province to be called "East Galbadia", while the remaining three towns, Centra, Wilburn Hill and Monterosa will remain as Galbadian territory. Wilburn Hill and Centra, the current Galbadian capitol, will form a new Galbadian province known as "South Galbadia".

In the new province of "West Galbadia", Deling City completes construction of its Hot Springs Resort and begins building a Town Hall. The occupying soldiers and local citizens alike now enjoy a nice soak in the Hot Springs bath houses. Galbadia Garden's Cocoa Plantation is now up and running, with various chocolate products flowing out of the town and along the Silk Road and Iron Road to the rest of the Kingdom. Governor Takayama then has the town start building a Town Hall for him to stay at.

In the home territory, Lord Mi'ihen finishes training the first band of Crusaders at Lord Mi'ihen's Crusaders in Tycoon Castle. The Crusaders are sent to the Front. Cultural Advisor Yuna also reports that construction of the Arena is now complete, so Queen Reina sends for Sephiroth and tells him to start training a Ranger party.

The Rubber Plantation in Fisherman's Horizon produces a Treasure shipment, and a Minotaur delivers it to Tycoon Castle, where it brings another 300 Gil into the treasury. Tule has another Villager party ready, so they begin building a Town Hall.

In the Northeast, a Velociraptor party from Crescent exterminates a band of Trolls threatening the Garden town of Hasberry Plains.

In 1480 PA, the influence of both Deling City and Istory expand and the Spice Factory in Istory produces a Treasure shipment, which a Minotaur begins Hauling to Tycoon Castle. Sephiroth finishes training the Ranger Party in Tycoon Castle, and Domestic Advisor Sarisa begins building the Alexandria Castle (Alexandria Castle = Sun Tzu's Art of War)

In the Southeast, Governor Takayama orders troops and the two Trebuchet batteries to move into position to attack Winhill... Yes, it is promised to Garden, but nothing in the treaty said that Garden had to be the ones to take it.

Outside Trabia, deep in Garden territory, our Villager party that is building roads between Garden towns reports seeing a Garden Warrior party defeat an unknown assailant. Military intelligence analysis suggests that they were likely Shinra forces.

In 1486 PA, the Iron Foundry in Jacole and the Incense Manufactory in Carwen both produce Treasure shipments. A Minotaur in Carwen quickly hauls the shipment to Tycoon Castle, but the one from Jacole will take a bit longer to arrive. Another Minotaur also emerges from the Tomb of the Unknown King in Tycoon Castle this year.

In the Southeast, Governor Takayama dispenses funds to hurry construction of the town halls in Galbadia Garden and Deling City as well as the Shrine in Nectar.... The Province of West Galbadia will soon be almost as productive and prosperous as the central province around Tycoon Castle.

Later on, our Villager Party building roads in Garden territory reports seeing the Garden Warrior party defeat another unseen enemy. Edea, knowing that she's bit off way more than she can chew fighting against both us and Garden, rallies the evil Shinra Corporation against us.... AGAIN! You'd think Rufus would have learned by now that any expedition he sends against us is going to get horribly mangled....

An elite Galbadian Gladiator party moves into our territory South of Deling City... Time to make it abundantly clear just who this city belongs to now!

1492 PA, our Trebuchet batteries fling boulders at the elite Galbadian Gladiators and one of them actually scores a few hits. Our elite Velociraptor party sallies forth and engages in a savage melee with the Galbadian forces. The Gladiators are defeated after a long, grueling battle that leaves most of our Velociraptors severely wounded, but the Galbadian threat to our recently acquired city has been removed!

Deling City completes construction of its Town Hall in record time and begins training a Ranger party to defend against future invasions. Galbadia Garden also finishes its Town Hall and begins building the Hidden Palace, which will be Governor Takayama's new home/headquarters. Nectar finishes its Shrine and begins building a Temple.

Back home, Carwen finishes building its Library and begins training another Velociraptor party, and the Treasure shipment from Jacole finally arrives at Tycoon Castle, providing a much-needed boost to our treasury.

Later on in the year, our Villagers in Garden territory report seeing a badly wounded Garden Deinonychus party retreating towards Trabia. Hopefully our ally can hold out...

Governor Takayama also receives reports of a Galbadian Dark Knight party moving along our border towards Winhill (Dark Knight is what the EVIL factions build instead of Paladins or Sell Swords, and they have 7 attack but only 2 defense, as opposed to the Sell Sword's 6 attack and 3 Defense or the Paladin's 5 attack, 3 defense and +1 HP).

Fisherman's Horizon finishes building its Marketplace in 1498 PA and begins training a Ranger party. The Treasure shipment from Istory finally reaches Tycoon Castle, bringing some much-needed Gil into our treasury. Ritz Malheur, the Foreign Minister, presents the knowledge of Invention to Squall as a gift so that he will hopefully be able to fend off invading enemy forces better. She then trades World Maps with him so we can track his progress on improving his infrastructure.... Which, unfortunately is not much progress at all.

Now that the Trebuchet batteries have arrived at the gathering point, Governorn Takayama orders all units to move out across the Galbadian border for the assault on Winhill. Once the troops cross the border, they spot a Shinra Archer and Warrior party fortified in the mountains between Winhill and Trabia! Apparently they were the ones who put the hurt on the Garden Deinonychus party!

In 1504 PA, Lord Mi'ihen's Crusaders in Tycoon Castle finishes training another band of Crusaders, who are sent to the Front. The mayor of Tower of Worus appears before Queen Reina:

Cid's Workshop is now complete and all future unit upgrade costs will be reduced by half. Science Advisor Cid is delighted and moves into his new digs right away.

In the Northeast, Sarisa allocates funding to hurry construction of the Shrine in Crescent, while our Velociraptor party launches an assault on the last Fiend Den up North. They kill a band of Trolls in the den and are promoted to Elite status.

In the Southeast, Governor Takayama orders some of the troops to break off the assault column heading for Winhill and attack the Shinra troops spotted in the mountains earlier. A Minotaur leads the charge, but is skewered to death by the Shinra Warrior party, which is finished off by our Berserker party following in his wake. A band of Crusaders manages to wipe out the Shinra Archers, but they take heavy casualties in the process, and the rest of the units continue on towards Winhill

A Galbadian Warrior party defeats a Garden Warrior party, and yet another Galbadian Gladiator party moves into position to attack Deling City....

1510 PA, some travelling scholars from Galbadia and the Shinra Corporation drop off scrolls detailing theories on Theology at the Temple of the Ancients.

Realizing that we are, once again, falling behind on scientific research, Queen Reina has Cid start research into building a Printing Press (in this mod, whoever discovers Printing Press first gets a bonus tech, like you do with Philosophy), and dumps the entire budget into science. Even though we're running a 65 Gil deficit now, our semi-regular Treasure shipments will be able to more than balance out the loss.

To the East, Kanark finally finishes building its Marketplace and begins training a Ranger party, and the Rubber Plantation in Tycoon Castle produces another Treasure shipment. Crescent finishes its Shrine in record time and begins building a Temple, while Tower of Worus finishes recruiting a Villager party and begins training a Velociraptor party.

In the Southeast, Governor Takayama receives report that all units have arrived outside Winhill and are forming siege lines for the assault. An elite Velociraptor party from Deling City attacks the Galbadian veteran Gladiator party South of the city, but is forced to retreat in the face of the Galbadains' Phalanx tactics. Our veteran Bangaa Gladiators prove to be better at Phalanx tactics than the Galbadians, and wipes out the remaining Gladiators. Governor Takayama promotes the Bangaa to elite status for thier valor in combat.

Later in the year, an AVALANCHE Goblin Skirmisher party wipes out a band of Trolls camped on the border between North Corel and Istory. They then tell our Villagers that AVALANCHE is building the Orbonne Monastary. (Orbonne Monastary = Sistine Chapel, but only GOOD and NEUTRAL factions can build it.)

Thus it is, with yet another decisive blow against Galbadia about to fall, that this part of the story comes to a close.

I'm hoping for an update of this story.

Well, you just got one :D

Sorry about the delay... I've been kind of busy with homework and playing Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles (that's a fun game to play, BTW)....

EDIT: And here is a map of the planned partitioning of Galbadia:

Chapter 13: The World War
Part V: Tycoon Über Alles

The year is 1516 PA and Hikaro Takayama, Chief Advisor to Queen Reina Tycoon and Governor of the Tycoon province of West Galbadia is inspecting the siege lines around the Galbadian town of Winhill. Since the fall of Galbadia Garden and Deling City, Winhill is now the second largest town in the Galbadian republic, but that is about to change.

Satisfied that all the Trebuchets are in position and the troops are ready for battle, Governor Takayama gives the order to attack. The Trebuchet batteries begin the attack, raining large rocks and boulders down upon the Archers and Rangers defending the walls, inflicting significant casualties. As soon as the Trebuchet barrage ends, the Tycoon troops surge forwards, led by a veteran Minotaur, who single-handedly wipes out an elite Galbadian Archer party. Governor Takayama, who is leading a veteran Berserker party, promotes the Minotaur to elite status before leading his Berserkers to victory against a regular Galbadian Ranger party. A veteran Chocobo Knight party forming the left flank of the assault crushes a Galbadian Warrior party that is the last unit defending the town. The citizens immediately surrender, and Governor Takayama takes control of the town and has the citizens begin building an Ivory Carver's shop (Ivory Carver is a city improvement that produces a Treasure every 10 turns, boosts tax revenue and requires Elephants in the city radius). Once the Ivory Carver's shop is finished, and the area cleared of Galbadian troops, the town is to be turned over to Garden, as per the terms of the "Galbadia Garden Agreement."

Several Galbadian units that had left the city to attack Garden turn back when they hear of the assault, but are unable to reach the city in time to do any good. Governor Takayama has some plans on what to do with those troops, but first he has a veteran Velociraptor party stay behind to guard the Trebuchets. At Galbadia Garden, which is soon to be the capitol of the West Galbadia province, the elite Bangaa Tracker party sallies forth and kills all the nearby Galbadian Dark Knights.

Another Minotaur emerges from the Tomb of the Unknown King in Tycoon Castle just before Queen Reina decrees that production in Tycoon Castle shall be changed to the Orbonne Monastary, since it is entirely likely that we won't be able to build the Alexandria Castle first. Meanwhile, Fisherman's Horizon finishes training another Ranger party, which sets out for Galbadia Garden. The Mayor then begins building a Library. Carwen finishes training a Velociraptor party and starts training another one.

Our Villager party in Garden finishes a road through the Qu Village in the Trabia Marsh and begins extending it down to Galbadia Garden, so that Squall's troops will have a direct route to the Galbadian front. The Villagers report that their visit with the Qu was a pleasant, but strange, one... The Qu are a genderless race of gourmands who live in marshy areas and consider frogs to be a delicacy. According to the Villager party's reports, when a Qu reaches adulthood, (s)he goes forth on a journey to sample as much of the world's cuisine that (s)he can as well as perfect the art of cooking. The leader of the Villager party also added a humble suggestion that Queen Reina should hire a Qu chef as soon as possible, since the food they got while building the road through the Qu Village was the best they ever had. (Qu Villages are bonus resources that increase food in Swamps and Floodplains by +2 and trade by +1).

In the far North, our elite Velociraptor party finishes off the last pack of Bandersnatches guarding the Fiend den and collects 25 Gil worth of loot. Another Fiend den is spotted further North, along the coast.

In 1522, the troops that took Winhill barely get enough time to rest up before they have to face the Galbadian troops trying to re-take the city. Governor Takayama takes personal command of the Trebuchet batteries and scores solid hits on the Galbadian Gladiator and Warrior party moving in on the town. The Velociraptor partythat was guarding the Trebuchets finishes off the Gladiator party, while the Chocobo Knights take care of the Warrior, and the area is rid of Galbadian troops once again.

On a more peaceful note, Deling City finishes training a Ranger party and starts building a Temple.

Back around the capitol, Tule Finishes construction of its Town Hall and begins building a Library. The Dwarf Engineer Squad in the area also finishes building a road to the Giant Spider den outside Lix, and several cities change their training programs over to Tarantula parties (Tarantulas are units that require Giant Spiders and have 7 attack, 3 defense and 2 movement)

Later in the year, a Bandersnatch pack is spotted Southeast of Fisherman's Horizon, and more Galbadian Warriors move in to try and attack Winhill.

In 1528, one of the Trebuchet batteries outside Winhill bombards a Galbadian Warrior party and scores a few hits, and the Berserker party garrisoned in Winhill moves out and slaughters the survivors. The valiant Chocobo Knights once again answer the call to duty and lay some serious "thwack" down on the last party of Galbadian Warriors outside Winhill, and the town is once again secure.

Governor Takayama, who is once again in his offices in Galbadia Garden, orders troops to start moving into Galbadian territory in preparation for the assault on Lenown Plains.

Further North, Jacole finishes building its Library and starts training a Tarantula party. Tower or Worus finishes training a Tarantula party and begins building the Alexandria Castle (which is a pre-build for a Mage tower), and a Berserker party from Fisherman's Horizon slaughters the nearby pack of Bandersnatches.

In 1534 PA, the citizens of Winhill begin rioting in the streets. Governor Takayama takes a fast Chocobo into town to address the people's grievances... Surprisingly, almost half of the rioters are protesting forced labor that Edea instituted to hurry troop training, while the other half are protesting our war against their former homeland. Governor Takayama reassures the residents that the war with Galbadia will soon be over and that the Kingdom of Tycoon will NEVER commit such atrocities as forcing citizens to work themselves to death. He then hires a few entertainers for good measure and the people begin to calm back down.

Lord Mi'ihen's Crusaders in Tycoon Castle finishes training another Crusader party, which is sent to the Front, while Kanark finishes training a Ranger party for town defense and begins building a Library. The Dwarf Engineer's Guild in Tower of Worus trains another Dwarf Engineer Squad, who are directed to build a road to the town site along the coast near the mouth of the Tycoon River, Irrigate the grasslands they will be building the road through and then found a city at the site... Soon the Southern Coast will no longer be a have for Fiends either. Queen Reina and Chief Advisor/Governor Takayama had decided long ago to only use half of their Dwarf Engineer Squads to found cities... The other half would be added to our worker pool and be used exclusively for improving terrain (this is our third Dwarf Engineer Squad, the second one is working terrain near Lix).

(Player's Note: one of the things I like best about limiting expansion by making Settlers type units only be spawned by buildings is that it keeps the Barbarians, a.k.a. Fiends, in play longer... In most epic-type games, the entire world, with the exception of some small, remote islands, would have been completely settled by now. This game is in the mid-Middle Ages and about 1/3 of the world is still an uninhabited wilderness.)

The veteran Berserker party from Fisherman's Horizon spots the Fiend Den that was home for the recently deceased Bandersnatches along the Southern Coast. In the Far North, our elite Velociraptor party kills a Troll in the Fiend den along the extreme Northern end of the continent, but takes heavy damage in the process.

In 1540 PA, our budget-busting scientific research pays off:

Cid's successful construction of a Printing Press in his workshop in Tower of Worus resulted in a breakthrough for our Magicians and Wizards: Earth Magic. Queen Reina tells Cid to start researching Alchemy.

Not long after our new printing presses begin circulating news of our mastery of Earth Magic, a group of odd-looking travelers arrives in Tycoon Castle and requests an Audience with Queen Reina.

When the Travelers arrive in the Throne room, Reina sees that their leader is a Moogle, but of a different race than most of the Moogles on this world: He is much shorter than most of the native Moogles and has much longer fur as well, making him look like a big fuzz ball. To his right is a strange human (or at least humanoid) wearing heavy robes and a face-hiding visored helm, and to his left is a blue-haired human male whose outfit practically screams "bandit", although he has a certain scholarly air about him. Standing behind the Moogle is a dark-haired woman wearing an outfit similar to those worn by members of Garden's Worker parties.

The Moogle bows and says, "Greetings your Majesty, Kupo! I am Stiltzkin, and my traveling companions are Jelam, the Yuke Elder," he gestures to the strangely clad man to his right, "De Nam, the Selkie Scholar," he indicates the blue-haired man to his left, "and Sheula, the Clavat Agricultural expert, Kupo!" He then indicates the dark-haired woman standing behind him. After his three traveling companions bow to the Queen he continues, "We are from the Garden town of Hasberry Plains, but more importantly we are all from the same world originally and have heard of your recent discovery of Earth Magic. We are prepared to make you an offer, Kupo!"

Queen Reina nods and says, "Greetings and well met, travelers, what is this offer you speak of?"

Stiltzkin the Moogle nods to Sheula, who steps forward, bows and presents a small chest full of strange, azure seeds. She then says, "Your Highness, these seeds were collected on our home world before the great cataclysm that brought us here... They have the potential to grow into Myrrh Trees, but we've been unsuccessful in our attempts to get them to germinate, your Magesty."

De Nam, the Roguish looking scholar says, "Then we read the newspaper articles about your Mage's discovery of Earth Magic, and some of the theories and applications they discussed appear to be the missing keys to getting these seeds to grow, your Majesty."

Queen Reina looks puzzled for a minute and says, "And what, exactly, is the value of these 'Myrrh Trees' to me?"

Jelam, the Yuke Elder speaks up and says, "Your Magesty, our world was covered with a toxic Miasma that would not only spawn various Fiends, but also kill anyone not protected by a town's Crystal or a Crystal Chalice. The Crystals' power would fade unless they were imbued with the power of the Myrrh produced by the Myrrh trees once a year, so each town would send out Myrrh Caravans every year to collect Myrrh so that the Crystals wouldn't fail."

"I still don't see what that has to do with us," Queen Reina replies, her look of confusion now mixed with a hint of suspicion, "Granted, we have had our fair share of Fiend problems, but there is none of that 'Miasma' that you speak of on this world."

Jelam replies, "Your Majesty is quite correct, however, our research has indicated that Myrrh would have other applications on this world, not the least of which is enhancing the effectiveness of your own Mage's magic as well as in various healing spells.... In other words, it will likely become a very high-demand trade commodity, especially since the tree's rate of Myrrh production is very slow."

"Oh excellent," Queen Reina exclaims, "If you're right that our Earth Magic holds the key to getting the Myrrh Trees to grow, then our treasury will get a much-needed income boost, especially if we can monopolize the Myrrh Trade! Very well, Stiltzkin, you and your companions should take your seeds and offer to Tower of Worus and present it to Cid's research team.... Also, be sure to send some of the Myrrh Tree seeds to Governor Hikaro Takayama in Galbadia Garden... He'll be sure to make good use of them."

Stiltzkin bows and says, "Thany you, your majesty, we'll make haste for Tower of Worus, Kupo!" Queen Reina nods and the travelers depart.

Two weeks later, Cid sends a report back to Tycoon Castle that they've figured out what combination of spells and soil conditions are needed to get the Myrrh Tree seeds to sprout, and the first seedling, along with some of the seeds, has been sent to Governor Takayama in Galbadia Garden. Cid also reports that construction plans in Tower of Worus have been changed from the Alexandria Castle to a Mage Tower (Mage towers give 4 culture per turn, reduce corruption, boost science, produce a Mage (20(16),2,2 with lethal bombardment) every 15 turns and cost 270 shields... Yes, they ARE a city improvement and not a SW or GW. Myrrh Trees are a city Improvement that basically is a half-price marketplace that doesn't require maintenance, and if you own 5 of them, you can build the Myrrh Trade GW that gives +1 trade in all trade-producing tiles of the city that builds it and makes 1 person happy in all cities. These all requre the Earth Magic tech that only NEUTRAL factions can research.)

Governor Takayama, receiving the letter and Myrrh Tree seeds, plants the seedling in Deling City since the town has finished building its Temple, and the Rubber Plantation in Galbadia Garden produces its first Treasure shipment, which a Berserker party grabs and starts hauling back to Tycoon Castle.

In Fiend action this year, the Berserker party from Fisherman's Horizon clears out the Fiend Den Southeast of town, and another band of Trolls emerges from the Fiend den in the far North, so our elite Velociraptor party retreats to a nearby forest to heal up.

Late in the year, more Galbadian troops move in on Winhill... Looks like they haven't learned their lesson yet. President Rufus Shinra also sends an envoy to us asking for a peace treaty, which we are happy to sign. Shinra also founds the town of Icicle Village near the SE coast of the giant continent that everyone is on.

Finally, we get word that Esthar has finished building the Alexandria Castle.... Now that all their towns have Barracks in them, they might be able to hold off the AVALANCHErs and Galbadians.

1546 PA, our troops in Winhill, once again, are victorious over the invading Galbadian forces. The elite Minotaur soundly thrashes a Galbadian Warrior party and our veteran Velociraptors get promoted to elite after wiping out a veteran Gladiator party. Once again, Winhill is purged of Galbadian forces. A band of Crusaders also annihilates a Galbadian Dark Knight party South of Deling City.

Back at Tycoon Castle, another Minotaur emerges from the Tomb of the Unknown King, and the Incense Manufactory in Carwen produces a Treasure shipment, which is hauled into Tycoon Castle. Fisherman's Horizon finishes building its Library and starts building a Mage Tower. Lonka also finishes building a Library and starts growing a Myrrh Tree.

Later in the year, we get news that the Shinra Corporation has completed construction of the South Gate in Midgar. Now all the Shinra towns have walls surrounding them, which means that it will be even more difficult for our ally, Garden, to conquer them. On a more positive note, the Shinra forces will have an easier time defeating the Fiends in the area.

In 1549 PA, a veteran Berserker party defeats a Galbadian warrior party in the forests Southeast of Winhill, but take heavy casualties in the process.

Governor Takayama orders the assault on Lenown Plains to begin without waiting for artillery support. A band of veteran Crusaders leading the attack demolishes a Galbadian Ranger party, but a second ranger party forces our veteran Tarantula party to retreat. The Minotaur following in the Tarantula's wake slays all the remaining Galbadian Rangers and captures the town.

1 Gil worth of treasure and two Galbadian Worker parties are siezed along with the town. Governor Takayama orders construction of a Gem Mine in the town. (Gem Mines boost tax revenue in the city that builds them, produce a Treasure every 10 turns and require Gems in the city radius to be built)

Queen Reina then calls up Commander Squall and ends our military alliance with them against Galbadia, since the terms have expired long ago and Galbadia has been punished enough. To put Squall's mind at ease, she presents the knowledge of Chivalry and Magic to him as gifts.

Queen Reina then meets with Sorceress Edea Kramer of Galbadia and hammers out a peace treaty. After 177 years, the World War is finally over. As per the Galbadia Garden Agreement and the terms of the peace treaty, Winhill and Lenown Plains will be turned over to Garden once they have their appropriate treasure producing buildings (Gem Mine and Ivory Carver) as well as Myrrh Trees in them. (even though only Neutral civs can BUILD Myrrh Trees, anyone can gain the benefits of having them if they capture a city that has one built in it).

All four captured Galbadian Worker parties will be returned to Galbadia once they finish their current projects and go to Tycoon Castle.

Governor Takayama hires extra workers to finish building the Ivory Carver's Shop in Winhill, and our second Villager party in Garden territory finishes a road linking Hasberry Plains to our road network, and by extension, to the rest of Garden's trade network. The Weaver's Shop in Lonka produces another Treasure shipment, which is hauled back to Tycoon castle by the town's Minotaur.

So it is with the long, bitter war finally over and with the focus back on improving our infrastructure, that this chapter comes to an end.

Chapter 14:Eye of the Hurricane

The year is 1552 PA, and after almost 200 years of constant warfare, the Kingdom of Tycoon is once again at peace while the winds of war rage on all sides of it. Queen Reina Tycoon, ruler of the Kingdom, once again calls her advisers together to discuss the direction that the Tycoon Kingdom should take.

Governor Takayama, her chief adviser puts forth the first suggestion: "We should get back to the infrastructural development plan that we were following during the 80 Years of Peace, however I'd like to suggest the following changes: Instead of the build priorities being Shrine, Temple, Town Hall, Barracks, Marketplace, Library, they should be thus: Shrine, Temple, Town Hall, Myrrh tree, Barracks, Library, Mage Tower, Marketplace... We need libraries to build Mage Towers, otherwise, what are the Mages going to study and we're probably going to be needing the Mage parties trained in the Mage Towers in the near future, not to mention that they'll be the ideal units for Bartz' Army. The Myrrh Trees are also a priority due to the fact that they reach maturity faster than it takes us to build a Marketplace, they also do not require any upkeep, which means that any money gained from selling the Myrrh is 100% profit, but we should still try to get a Marketplace in every town and city... It never hurts to have more than one source of extra income," he said and then sits back down.

"Sounds reasonable, Governor," Queen Reina replies, "By the way, how is construction of the Hidden Palace in Galbadia Garden coming along?"

Governor Takayama answers, "The construction is nearing completion, but it will still be some time before they're finished, your Majesty.... I've been running the West Galbaida provincial business from Galbadia Garden's Town Hall."

"Good work, Governor!" Queen Reina acknowledged, "Anything else?"

Ritz Malheur, the Foreign Minister sits up and says, "Your Highness, Commander Squall Leonhart has been asking when we mean to hand over the East Galbadian towns as per the Galbadia Garden Agreement."

Queen Reina replies, "Good question... I believe the good Governor might have an answer for you there."

They turn to face Governor Takayama who says, "Not much longer... Winhill has completed its Ivory Carver's shop and I've just bought some of Sheula's 'Super-Duper Spee-D Grow' fertilizer to get the Myrrh Tree seedling to grow faster. I've also hired extra miners in Lenown Plains help finish building their Gem Mine, and once they get their Myrrh Tree established, we'll turn the town over to them."

"Excellent! Ritz, give the Governor's statement to Squall next time he asks," Queen Reina replies. She then looks at the various advisers and says, "Is there any other business I should be made aware of?"

"A Treasure shipment has just arrived from Lonka, that added 300 Gil to the Royal Treasury, Your Majesty," Krile Baldesion, the Royal Treasurer says.

"Good," Queen Reina replies, "That will help with the revised infrastructure improvement plan. Anything else?"

"Your Majesty, due to the number of cities we have now, coupled with the fact that we have FOUR Villager parties in Garden territory, we are falling behind on road-building and public works projects. Also, another Settler party has assembled at the Palace," Sarisa Tycoon, the Queen's sister and Domestic Minister says.

"Very well, I'll be sure to have some of the larger, more established towns and cities recruit some Villager parties in addition to their other various building projects," Queen Reina decrees, "As for the Settlers, send them to the last of the Wutai Sea sites selected on the earlier map... The one between Istory, Crescent and Lix. That will give us complete control of the entire Eastern half of the Wutai Sea as well as guarantee that no fiends can gather in that area anymore." She then looks at the assembled advisers and says, "Anyone else have anthing to say?"

When no one answers, she says, "Very well, then, this meeting is adjourned, everyone is dismissed." They all rise, and the advisers bow to the Queen before filing out of the council chambers after her.

Later on that year, Carwen's Myrrh Tree has finally reached maturity, so the town mayor starts building an Aqueduct, due to the fact that his town has almost reached city size (in this mod, towns have 1-12 citizens, Cities have 12-24 citizens and Metros have 25+... This helps combat the ever-annoying population pollution problems, due to the fact that most cities will never reach Metro size).

In the North, a band of Trolls passes our elite Velociraptor party heading South accross the Barrier Mountains into the Hasberry Plains. Our Velociraptors, despite being slightly wounded from an earlier battle, ambush and slay all the Trolls before they can reach Garden Territory.

In 1555 PA, Lenown Plains finishes building its Gem Mine, and plants a Myrrh Tree seedling. Governor Takayama tells the farmers to wait a year or two for the seedling to get established before giving it any of Sheula's "Super-Duper Spee-D Grow" fertilizer. Nectar finishes building its Temple and begins building a Town Hall. The Myrrh Tree sapling in Winhill has finally become established, so Governor Takayama mixes up a batch of Super-Duper Spee-D Grow plant food that he bought from Sheula, and gives it to the Myrrh Tree sapling in Winhill, so that it will reach maturity much faster. The Cocoa Plantation in Galbadia Garden produces another Treasure shipment, which is picked up by a Tarantula party and hauled back towards Tycoon Castle along the Silk Road.

In the Central Province, the Library in Tule is finally finished, and the town's farmers plant a Myrrh Tree seedling and begin nurturing it to maturity. Lord Mi'ihen's Crusaders in Tycoon Castle finises training another band of Crusaders, who are sent to help secure the city site near the mouth of the Tycoon River. The Rubber Plantation in Fisherman's Horizon produces another Treasure shipment, and a Minotaur hauls it back to Tycoon Castle, adding another 300 Gil to the Royal Treasury.

Tycoon Castle finishes a major project in 1558 PA:

The Orbonne Monastary is now complete and serves as an administrative center/library for all the Kingdom's Churches, doubling their effectiveness (Orbonne Monastary = Sistine Chapel). Sarisa then instructs the construction crews to begin building a Mage Tower. Tule's influence expands again, giving us, for the first time ever, a Southern land border with AVALANCHE (Wutai's borders touch Tule's borders at one tile along the coast of the Wutai Sea). Soon that patch of fronteir between Esthar, AVALANCHE and the Tycoon Kingdom will no longer serve as a Fiend haven either!

Lix finishes building its Shrine and starts building a Temple. Further North, the Spice Factory in Istory produces a Treasure shipment just as the town finishes building a Marketplace and starts building a Harbor.

In the province of West Galbadia, Winhill's Myrrh Tree has reached maturity, so Governor Takayama sends a messenger to Foreign Minister Ritz Malheur, who then contacts Commander Squall Leonhart of Garden. As soon as all our troops have left the city and formed a defensive perimiter against invading Galbadian and Shinra troops, Garden takes official control of the town. Governor Takayama then buys another batch of Sheula's "Super-Duper Spee-D Grow" plant food for the Myrrh Tree sapling in Lenown Plains so that town will also be ready in a few years to hand over to Garden, in accordance to the treaty provisions. Deling City's Myrrh Tree reaches maturity and the city militia's commander begins training a Ranger party.

In Garden territory, our Villager parties have finished building roads to link Dollet to the rest of Garden's trade network, and give Hasberry Plains an internal link to the other Garden towns and cities.

1561 PA, another Minotaur emerges from the Tomb of the Unknown King in Tycoon Castle and moves out to secure the city site between Istory, Crescent and Lix that the Settler Party is moving in on. Carwen finishes building an Aqueduct from the Tycoon River to supply the ever-growing population and begins constructing a Mage Tower. Tower of Worus completes the Kingdom's first Mage Tower and plants a Myrrh Tree seedling. The Tarantula Party from Galbadia Garden arrives in Tycoon Castle with the Treasure shipment, netting another 300 Gil for the Treasury. Sarisa announces to Queen Reina that all the road building and terrain improvement projects that can be done at Tycoon Castle are finally finished, so the Queen sends two of the Villager parties down to the town site near the mouth of the Tycoon River and the third Villager party over to West Galbadia to help improve the province's terrain. Sarisa then shells out 908 Gil to hire extra workers to rush construction of the Mage Tower in Tycoon Castle.

The Iron Foundry in Jacole produces a treasure shipment, which a Minotaur picks up and begins hauling back to Tycoon Castle along the Iron Road.

In the Southeast, Lenown Plains' Myrrh Tree has reached maturity, so once Governor Takayama moves all the defending troops out and forms what he jokingly calls the "Thin Pink Line" to block Galbadian Troops from capturing the city before Garden reinforcements can arrive, and the city is formally handed over to Garden. All the provisions of the Galbadia Garden Agreement have now been fulfilled.

Later that year, a band of Garden Sell Swords are spotted moving towards Shinra territory, and a pack of Bandersnatches has been spotted outside our border NE of Crescent. (Even though Garden is a GOOD faction, I gave them the NEUTRAL offensive unit line-up due to the fact that they were a Mercenary organization in addition to their primary purpose of combating evil Sorceresses).

In 1564 PA, Tycoon Castle completes its Mage Tower in record time and plants a Myrrh Tree seedling. Kanark completes construction of its Library and plants a Myrrh Tree. Jacole finishes training a Tarantula party and plants a Myrrh Tree. The Tarantula party is sent North to intercept the Bandersnatch pack before they can kill our Villager parties or destroy any of our roads or terrain improvements. The first two captive Galbadian Worker parties arrive in Tycoon Castle, and Foreign Minister Ritz Malheur arranges for their transportation back to Galbadia. The Treasure shipment from Istory also arrives and the money generated from it is used to hire extra workers to hurry construction of the Temple in Lix, the Town Hall in Nectar and a Harbor in Istory.

Later that year, Ritz brings word of another conflict ending:

Esthar and Galbadia finally signed a peace treaty, but both nations are still at war with other nations... Esthar is still locked in its eternal struggle with AVALANCHE and Galbadia is still duking it out with Garden, who would be pounding them into the ground if not for Shinra intervening on Galbadia's side.

Commander Cloud Strife of AVALANCHE meets with Reina to renegotiate our Incense for Herbs deal... They're only willing to renew the deal if we give them the secrets of how to build a Printing Press, so we fork it over.

AVALANCHE also founds the City of the Ancients on the West coast Northwest of the Esthar city of Kashkabald Forest, next to a grove of Cocoa trees and a large school of Fish.

In 1567, Tower of Worus' Myrrh Tree has reached maturity, so Jelam, the Yuke Elder and town mayor, has Sheula begin recruiting a Villager party. Tule's Myrrh Tree also reaches maturity so they begin recruiting a Villager party as well. Lix finishes construction of its Temple and its influence immediately expands. The mayor begins building a Town Hall. The Treasure shipment from Jacole, along with the last two captured Galbadian Worker parties arrive in Tycoon Castle. Foreign Minister Ritz arranges for the Galbadian Workers to be transported back to Galbadia, and all the provisions of the peace treaty are now complete.

Istory finishes building its Harbor and plants a Myrrh Tree seedling.

In the Southeast, Nectar finishes building its Town Hall and plants a Myrrh Tree seedling. Further East, a Garden Velociraptor party defeats a Galbadian Warrior party while Shinra troops move into Garden territory to attack Dollet.

1570 PA, Tycoon Castle's Myrrh Tree reaches maturity and Domestic Minister Sarisa begins building a Granary so that the city's population will grow faster. In the meantime, Lord Mi'ihen's Crusaders in Tycoon Castle also finishes training another Crusader party. According to Domestic Minister Sarisa, we now have enough Myrrh Trees to begin an attempt to monopolize the Myrrh Trade, but Queen Reina tells her to wait until Tycoon Castle's Granary is finished before starting it. (The Myrrh Trade is a GW available ONLY to Neutral factions that requires 5 Myrrh Trees to build. It makes 1 person happy in all cities and increases trade in all trade-producing tiles of the city that builds it by 1).

Tule finishes recruiting its Villager party and begins building a Barracks. Tower of Worus also finishes recruiting its Villager party and also begins building a Granary.

To the Immediate Southeast of Tycoon Castle, the Dwarf Engineer Squad has finally reached the designated site:

They found the town of Pirate's Cave on the Southern coast near the Mouth of the Tycoon River and on the Eastern edge of the Frozen Tundra. The dwarves then begin building a Shrine in the town.

To the North, the pack of Bandersnatches flee from our Tarantula party and into the waiting jaws and claws of our elite Velociraptors, who eat their fill of Bandersnatch that night.

In the province of West Galbadia, both Galbadia Garden and Deling City's influence expands a second time. Deling City also finishes training a Ranger party, so Governor Takayama has them start building a Library. Our Villager parties in the region also finish building a road from Trabia to Galbadia Garden, giving the SeeDs a direct route to the front against Galbadia as well as to their recently acquired cities of Winhill and Lenown Plains.

Later that year, an Esthar Warrior party defeats an AVALANCHE Archer party on Iron Mountain outside Shumi Village. To the Southeast, a Shinra Chocobo Rider party attacks Dollet and gets wiped out by the town's defenders. Garden also FINALLY gets a Velociraptor party over to Winhill to defend it. In the North, a band of Trolls is spotted outside our borders near Crescent.

So it is with the Tycoon Kingdom acting as an eye of calm in the hurricane of war around it, that this chapter comes to a close.

Looking back a bit at that horde of barbs... they had an attack of 8. What was the attack of your main unit at the time?

Looking back a bit at that horde of barbs... they had an attack of 8. What was the attack of your main unit at the time?

At the time the hordes of fiends appeared, the absolute best unit I HAD were my 4,2,2 +1HP Minotaurs, but they are only generated once every 5 turns by the Tomb of the Unknown King. The best Attacking units that I could BUILD were 3,2,1 Knights and 3,3,2 +1HP Deinonychus, and IIRC, 3,2,2 Chocobo Riders (I don't recall if I had Chocobos hooked up, though).

About halfway through the endless battles with the huge piles of Trolls attacking me, I got Feudalism through the Temple of the Ancients and was able to train 5,5,1 Gladiators and 5,5,2 Bangaa Gladiators, which gave me just the edge I needed to finally beat them back.

Still, I think I've lost more units to Trolls and Bandersnatches than in all the wars I've been in with other civs.

The Barbarians are so bad in this mod that half the time the AI is afraid to settle very far outside its territory.

Chapter 15: Filling in the Blanks

The year is 1573 PA, and the Kingdom of Tycoon is prospering thanks to the wise rule of Queen Reina and the sage advice of her Royal Council. A council, which happens to be in session.

"Well Your Highness, we've just figured out how Alchemy works," Science Adviser Cid said, "We have discovered the wonders of saltpeter and can now build Bombard Cannons, if we have a source of Saltpeter, Alchemist's Shops in towns that have access to Saltpeter and Hot Springs mineral water, and Munitions Plants in towns that are near Saltpeter deposits."

"Good job, Cid," Queen Reina replies, "Now that we know the secrets of Alchemy, I think it would be best to pursue mastery over the other Natural Sciences. By the way, does anyone know if we have any Saltpeter deposits in our territory?"

"As a matter of fact, we do, Your Majesty," Hikaro Takayama, Chief Adviser to the Crown and Governor of West Galbadia replies, "Some of the Villager parties working in the Lonka Desert discovered a patch of strange minerals about ten miles away from the Silk Road. Unfortunately, we don't have a road to the deposit, yet, but I'm sending all available Villager parties in West Galbadia to build a road in to mine the deposits. The Saltpeter deposits are also close enough to Lonka for us to build a Munitions Plant in the town."

"Excellent news, Governor, I'll be sending a few additional Villager parties that way myself... According to General Sephiroth, the Bombard Cannons will be much more effective than the Trebuchets you two demonstrated during the World War," Queen Reina replied, "Also, that Munitions Plant will do much to increase productivity in the Eastern region."

(Note: Alchemist's Shop is a cheap, 0 maintenance science building that requires Saltpeter and Hot Springs to build and anyone can build it. Munitions Plant requires Saltpeter in the city radius and is a Treasure building that produces a Treasure every 15 turns and increases tax revenue and production in the city. It also costs twice as much as other Treasure buildings).

General Sephiroth speaks up and says, "Your Grace, some of my troops killing Fiends in the South have also spotted a deposit along the coast near the banks of the Anduin river near one of our projected city sites... I recommend sending the fifth Dwarf Engineer party to claim that spot before Esthar does...."

"Good idea, General," Queen Reina nods, "Anything else I need to know?"

"The Rubber Plantation produced another Treasure shipment, your Higness," Krile Baldesion, the Trade Minister, pipes up, "That added another 300 Gil to the Treasury."

Nobody else speaks up, so Queen Reina says, "Good, this council session is adjourned."

Later that year, the Myrrh Tree in Lonka reaches maturity, and Governor Takayama has the town start building a Mage Tower, which will be switched over to a Munitions plant as soon as the road to the Saltpeter deposits is complete.

In the Northern areas, Crescent finishes its Temple and starts building a Town Hall. A Tarantula party from Crescent is sent to intercept a Band of Trolls threatening our Northern cities.

The Settler party finally reaches the last spot chosen along the Eastern shore of the Wutai sea and sets up shop:

The town of Surgate Castle is founded, bringing the entire Eastern half of the Wutai Sea under our control and finally ending any possibility of attacks by Fiends from that area. The town mayor begins building a Shrine to celebrate.

In the Central province, Domestic Minister Sarisa hires extra workers to hurry construction of the Shrine in Pirate's Cave and the Town Hall in Lix.

Near the end of the year, we receive word that Galbadian Troops are moving in on the undefended town of Lenown Plains, so Governor Takayama orders the "Thin Pink Line" to be deployed to block their advance. A Garden Sell Sword party near Dollet defeats a Shinra Chocobo Rider party, but is rode down and slaughtered by a second group of Shinra Chocobo Riders.

In the North, the band of Trolls attack our Tarantula party, but end up getting their juices sucked out for their trouble, however a second band of Trolls is spotted moving into Garden territory near Hasberry Plains.

In 1576 PA, Tycoon Castle finishes building its Granary and begins Trade Adviser Krile's plan to monopolize the Myrrh Trade. Another Minotaur emerges from the Tomb of the Unknown King and is sent North.

The Incense Manufactory in Carwen produces another Treasure shipmen, which is hauled back to Tycoon Castle to add another 300 Gil into the Treasury.

Tower of Worus finishes construction of its Granary and begins building an Arena. Rally Bo also completes the training of another Dwarf Engineer Squad at the Dwarf Engineer's Guild in Tower of Worus. Since this is the fourth Dwarf Engineer Squad to be trained, they are assigned to the kingdom's worker pool and are told to report to Governor Takayama for projects in West Galbadia.

Lix finishes its Town Hall in record time and plants a Myrrh Tree seedling. The Dwarves in Pirate's Cave finish their Shrine and start building a Temple. Two Minotaurs are sent North to deal with the Fiend problems in the area.

In the South, the Thin Pink Line is fully deployed, blocking Galbadia's route into Lenown Plains.

Up North, our Tarantula party is wiped out attacking the band of Trolls threatening a Garden Warrior party, but the Trolls are all severely wounded and suffering from severe cases of arachnid poisoning. As a result, they are hallucinating too bad to notice our elite Velociraptor party closing in on them from behind until it's too late. The Trolls are dispatched without further ado.

Later in the year, Garden founds the town of Heath between Dollet and Winhill, two Esthar Settler parties are spotted near our borders and a pack of Bandersnatches is sighed Southeast of Fisherman's Horizon.

In the year 1579, construction of the Hidden Palace is completed in Galbadia Garden:

Governor Takayama moves into his new digs and throws the most croocked politicians and officials in the area into the brand-new dungeon, and the rest decide to toe the line after that. The city's production and tax revenue almost double overnight. Now that Galbadia Garden is the official capitol of the West Galbadia province, Governor Takayama orders a Temple to be built to commemorate the event. The Road to the Saltpeter deposit outside Lonka is also completed this year, so Governor Takayama has the city switch construction from a Mage Tower to a Munitions Plant.

Further North, Jacole's Myrrh Tree reaches maturity and it starts recruiting a Villager party. Kanark's Myrrh Tree also begins producing Myrrh and the town mayor also begins recruiting a Villager party. Tule finishes building its Barracks and begins recuriting a third Villager party... Soon the ever-elusive two Villager parties per town goal will be reached!

Domestic Minister Sarisa pays to hire extra workers to hurry construction of the Shrine in Surgate Castle, a Town Hall in Crescent and the Temple in Pirate's Cave. She also has Tower of Worus switch construction from an Arena to an Alchemist's Shop.

The two Minotaurs in the far North spot another band of Trolls near the Northern Fiend Den, while a Berserker party from Fisherman's Horizon exterminates the pack of Bandersnatches to the South of Tycoon Castle.

Later that year, Shinra troops engage Garden troops in battle near Dollet. Shinra loses a Warrior party in the fighting. A band of Trolls emerges from the fog near where the Bandersnatches were killed by our Berserkers.

And so it is, with the blank spots on the map slowly getting filled in, but the Fiends still persisting in causing trouble, that this chapter ends.

Chapter 16: Sweet 16 (Hundred)

The year is 1582 PA and the Kingdom of Tycoon is prospering and steadily growing. Tower of Worus finishes building an Alchemist's Shop and starts recruiting a Villager party. Crescent finishes its Town Hall and starts building an Alchemist's Shop. Pirate’s Cave completes its Temple and begins construction of a Town Hall.

Surgate Castle finishes its Shrine and starts construction of a Temple. Tule, Jacole and Kanark both finish recuriting their Villager parties so they start building an Alchemist’s Shops.

In the far North, our elite Velociraptor party kills another band of Trolls and is reinforced by the two Minotaurs. Soon the Northern Fiend Den will be destroyed! In Southern Fiend action, the Minotaur from Fisherman's Horizon kills the band of Trolls in the area, but he's badly wounded in the battle. Our wounded Berserker party that killed the Bandersnatches earlier is ordered to retreat back to Fisherman's Horizon, and a Velociraptor party is sent out from Fisherman's Horizon to the only possible location for the Fiend den those two groups of Fiends came from.

Domestic Minister Sarisa buys a batch of Sheula's Super-Duper Spee-D Grow plant food to hurry the Myrrh Tree's Growth in Lix. General Sephiroth, the Military Adviser, upgrades all but one Trebuchet battery to Bombard batteries as part of his Military Modernization Program. The last Trebuchet battery will be upgraded once it gets to a town that has a barracks where the men can be trained on the new weapons, and the Trebuchets can be dismantled and traded in for some shiny new Bombard cannons.

Later in the year, a Garden Velociraptor party in Heath kills an unsee unit that likely belongs to the Shinra Corporation. A Garden Ranger Party is also spotted moving through our territory near Galbadia Garden, likely on their way to Winhill or Lenown Plains. Shinra Troops are also spotted moving in on Winhill, which Squall leaves undefended in order to attack the advancing Shinra troops!

Sorceress Edea of Galbadia arranges a meeting with Queen Reina to trade territory maps... Of course, thanks to Edea's "genius" war with us, she doesn't have much of a territory map to trade.

Fisherman's Horizon builds a Mage Tower in 1585 and begins recruiting a Villager party. Galbadia Garden builds a Temple and starts building an Alchemist's Shop. The Myrrh Trees in Istory and Lix reach maturity so both towns start building Alchemist's Shops. Pirate's Cave's influence expands, bringing almost the entire Southern coast under our view and leaving precious few spots for the Fiends in that area to gather anymore. Hopefully the Southern border will soon be fiend-free.

Tower of Worus' Villager party is ready and sets out for West Galbadia to help with the province's development, and Tower of Worus begins building an Arena. Lord Mi'ihen's Crusaders in Tycoon Castle finishes training another Crusader party, which is sent South to secure the potential city site beside the mouth of the Anduin river, near the two pods of Whales. When they've almost reached their destination, they spot the Fiend den that the two groups of Fiends previously killed came from!

General Sephiroth reports to Queen Reina that the last of the Trebuchet batteries have been upgraded to Bombard Cannons, and the entire military is up to date, for now. (Bombard Cannons are late medieval artillery in this mod that have 20 bombard strenght, 3 RoF, 2 Movement and cost 20 shields... Two of the ideas I borrowed from AoI was to halve Naval unit and Artillery costs, but boost their effectiveness so that human and AI players would make better use of them).

To the Southeast, a Garden Velociraptor party moves into Winhill to defend the town and Garden goes to town on the invading Shinra troops, killing a veteran Shinra Warrior party.

AVALANCHE pulls Galbadia back into their war against Esthar. AVALANCHE also founds the town of Corral Valley along the West Coast near Fort Condor.

Esthar founds the town of Great Salt Lake Northeast of Shumi Village, filling the remaining gap between Esthar, AVALANCHE and the Kingdom of Tycoon, eliminating the possibility of fiend attacks from that area. They also build the town of Tear's Point Southwest of Fisherman's Horizon, filling up the last gap between their Southeastern and our Southwestern territory. Soon the day may come when Fiends are but a memory... Queen Reina and Princess Sarisa, the Domestic Minister, certainly hope so.

The "Thin Pink Line" between Winhill and Monterosa reports seeing a Galbadian Ranger party in Monterosa defeat a group of Fiends.

The Munitions Plant in Lonka is finished in 1588 PA, and soon gunpowder and cannon balls are being sent to all Barracks in the kingdom to keep the Bombard batteries well supplied in case of war. Governor Takayama then orders Lonka to begin recruiting a Villager party to help develop the province's infrastructure. The Rubber Plantation in Galbadia Garden produces a Treasure shipment, and it is loaded onto the backs of a Tarantula party which begins hauling it back to Tycoon Castle.

The Velociraptor from Fisherman's Horizon wipes out the Fiend den near the Whale city site at the mouth of the Anduin River. Fisherman's Horizon is finished recruiting its latest Villager party and begins building an Alchemist's Shop. Princess Sarisa disburses funds to hurry construction of the Temple in Surgate Castle, the Alchemist's Shop in Lix and the Town Hall in Pirate's Cave

In the far North, the elite Velociraptor party kills a band of Trolls camped out in the extreme Northern Fiend Den, and one of the veteran Minotaurs accompanying them wipes out the rest of the Fiends and demolishes the den.

Later that year, a Shinra Chocobo Rider party defeats a band of Garden Sell Swords near Dollet. A band of Trolls is spotted near Monterosa, while another group of Trolls is spotted in the North near Crescent.... Looks like another Fiend den popped up while we were destroying that other one.

Shinra founds the town of Lucrecia’s Cave between Costa Del Sol and Icicle Village.

In 1591 PA, Deling City finishes construction on its Library and begins building an Alchemist's Shop. One of our Villager parties in the area working on building roads between Garden towns finishes one linking Heath to Winhill, and begins extending it down to Lenown Plains.

Governor Takayama and Queen Reina have the Royal Cartographers draw up-to-date maps of the Tycoon Kingdom's main provinces as well as the province of West Galbadia:

Spoiler :

Spoiler :

Another Minotaur emerges from the Tomb of the Unknown King in Tycoon Castle, while Tule finishes building an Alchemist's Shop and starts building a Mage tower. Lix also finishes building an Alchemist's Shop and starts building a Barracks. Pirate's Cave finishes its Town Hall and starts building an Alchemist's Shop.

Surgate Castle's influence expands at the same time it finishes construction of its Temple and they begin building a Town Hall. Lonka finishes recuriting a Villager party and starts building an Alchemist’s Shop.

One of our Minotuars in the North discovers a Fiend Den outside Istory's borders!

In war action, more Shinra troops are spotted moving into Garden territory, while Galbadia decides to use a Galley to bypass the "Thin Pink Line" in order to attack Lenown Plains!

In 1594 PA, Fisherman's Horizon finishes construction of its Alchemist's Shop and it plants a Myrrh Tree seedling, while the Tarantula party from Galbadia Garden brings the Treasure shipment to Tycoon Castle.

Jacole and Kanark both finish building their Alchemist's Shops and begin building Mage Towers.

In West Galbadia, Galbadia Garden finishes building its Alchemist's Shop and Governor Takayama plants a Myrrh Tree seedling in the town square. The Weaver's Shop in Lonka produces a Treasure shipment, which is picked up by the Minotaur stationed in the town and hauled back to Tycoon Castle.

One of our Villager parties in Garden completes a road linking Roshfall Forest to the rest of Garden's trade network and begins extending it to Garden's border with the Shinra Corporation. Our Villagers also build a road linking Surgate Castle to the rest of our trade network as well. Plans are drawn up for a road running directly south from Istory, through Surgate Castle and Carwen into Tycoon Castle in order to reduce transit time for Treasure shipments from Istory. Our Minotaur also wipes out the Fiend den spotted outside Istory's borders.

Later in the year, Garden Sell Sword and Velociraptor parties defeat three Shinra Chocobo Rider parties near Heat and another Shinra Chocobo Rider party near Winhill. A weak Shinra counter-attack sees a Chocobo Rider party kill one of the victorious Sell Sword parties outside Heath.

The Galbadian Galley unloads a Dark Knight party outside Lenown Plains, while a band of Trolls enter our territory between Crescent and Istory.

Carwen completes ist Mage Tower in 1597 PA and begins building an Alchemist's Shop. Tower of Worus builds an Arena and starts training a Bombard battery. The Treasure shipment from Istory finally arrives in Tycoon castle adding 300 Gil to the Treasury. Princess Sarisa allocates some of those funds to hurry construction of the Town Hall in Surgate Castle and the Barracks in Lix.

In the North, a Velociraptor party from Crescent slaughters the band of Trolls invading our territory between Istory and Crescent.

In West Galbadia, Nectar's Myrrh Tree reaches maturity, so Governor Takayama has the town start building an Alchemist's Shop.

Later on near Winhill, a Garden Sell Sword party defeats the Shinra Chocobo Rider party that defeated the other Garden Sell Sword party earlier, and a Galbadian Galley sinks a Ghost Ship off the North Coast.

IBT: Garden Sell Sword defeats Shinra Chocobo Rider near Winhill. Galbadian Galley sinks Ghost ship off N Coast.

In 1600 PA, Deling City completes its Alchemnist's Shop and starts building a Mage tower, and the Cocoa Plantation in Galbadia Garden produces a Treasure Shipment, which the Tarantula party picks up and begins hauling back to Tycoon Castle.

The Rubber plantation in Fisherman's Horizon produces a Treasure Shipment, and a Minotaur hauls it back to Tycoon Castle, adding 300 Gil to the Treasury. Lord Mi'ihen's Crusaders in Tycoon Castle finishes training another Crusader party, and Fisherman's Horizon's Myrrh Tree reaches maturity. Fisherman's Horizon then begins building a Church. Istory completes construction of an Alchemist's Shop and starts building a Mage Tower. Lix finishes building its Barracks and starts building a Harbor. Surgate Castle builds a Town Hall and starts building an Alchemist's Shop. Tower of Worus finishes training a Bombard battery and starts building an Aqueduct.

Foreign Minister Ritz Malheur trades our World Map and 15 Gil to the Galbadians for their World Map, which slightly increases our knowledge of the seas surrounding our continent.

Later in the year, Garden Sell Swords massacre a Shinra Warrior party near Mount Niebel, and a Garden Settler party is spotted Northwest of Hasberry Plains by our elite Velociraptor party. Queen Reina is glad: Hopefully our allies will start filling in the frontier and help push the fiends back now!

The Shinra Corporation signs AVALANCHE into an alliance against Garden, right before signing a peace treaty with Garden! General Sephiroth comments that such back-stabbing is pretty much par for the course as far as the Shinra Corporation is concerned.

Science Adviser Cid makes an important announcement in 1603 PA:

His crack team of alchemists have mastered the basic concepts of the Natural Sciences, so Queen Reina has him begin uncovering the secrets of Flight.

Carwen finishes construction of its Alchemist's Shop and begins building a Church. Crescent finishes building its Alchemist's Shop and plants a Myrrh Tree seedling, and the Spice Factory in Istory produces a Treasure shipment.

In West Galbadia, Galbadia Garden's Myrrh Tree is finally mature, so Governor Takayama begins building a Church. Lonka finishes its Alchemist's Shop and starts building a Mage Tower. Governor Takayama declares that since Garden is no longer at war with the Shinra Corporation and Lenown Plains now has a Ranger party defending it, the "Thin Pink Line" is to be officially dismantled, with the units forming the massive blockade given new assignments elsewhere.

Later that year, Garden troops are spotted moving through our territory towards AVALANCHE.

So it is with the alliances around us shifting and our cities and infrastructure quietly growing that this chapter ends.

To those who've been reading this story, I'm truly sorry about the lack of updates, however, two weeks ago I found out my mom had cancer, and had been spending as much time as I could visiting her in the hospital, and have been spending time helping her around the house as she recovers from her surgery... This is on top of the megaton of homework I get at college every week, so I just didn't have the time to mess with Civ III much.

Things have calmed down around here somewhat, so I'll try to post updates at least once a week, but we'll see how things go....

Chapter 17: Crystal Chronicles

In 1606 PA, some traveling scholars visit the Temple of the Ancients:

They leave scrolls containing the secrets of Education in the Temple's archives, and with the spread of Education, the Temple of the Ancients loses its importance as a center of learning, although it still serves as a point of worship, civic pride and a tourist attraction.

In the meantime, Tower of Worus finishes construction of an Aqueduct channeling water from the Tycoon River into the city, and the mayor decides to put our new-found knowledge of Education to use and starts building a University. Another Minotaur emerges from the Tomb of the Unknown King in Tycoon Castle, while the Incense Manufactory in Carwen produces another Treasure shipment. It arrives in Tycoon Castle shortly before the Galbadia Garden's Treasure shipment, and 600 Gil is added to the Royal Treasury.

In the Northeast, the Iron Foundry in Jacole produces a Treasure shipment, and our Velociraptors in the far North spot yet another pack of Bandersnatches. Princess Sarisa, the Domestic Miniser, allocates almost 1000 Gil to hurry construction of a Mage Tower in Istory, while Governor Hikaro Takayama does the same for the Mage tower in Lonka. Foreign Minister Ritz Malheur grants the secrets of Education to Garden at the behest of Queen Reina.

Later in the year, a Galbadian Gladiator party wipes out a Garden Velociraptor party in our territory... Governor Takayama is NOT happy about foreign troops fighting in his province, but until Queen Reina decides to acquiesce to General Sephiroth's requests to wipe Galbadia off the map, there is not much he can do... Yet. (In the industrial Age, the Intelligence Agency produces Turk units every 5 turns, which are Hidden Nationality, so you can snipe off annoying AI troops in your territory without starting a war).

Queen Reina also receives word that the Shinra Corporation has begun construction of the Five Ministries in Mt. Corel, but they most likely won't have it completed before we can build both the Myrrh Trade and the Five Ministries. The Velociraptor party in the Far North also reports that Garden has founded the town of Shenand Hill in the mountains directly North of Hasberry Plains.... This will definitely curb the amount of fiends popping up in the region.

Lonka finishes construction of its Mage Tower in 1609 PA, and begins building a Galley in the town Harbor. Nectar's influence expands again, solidifying our control over at least half the Galbadian Peninsula, which pleases Governor Takayama.

In the North, Istory completes construction of its Mage Tower and also begins building a Galley in its Harbor.... The days of the Ghost Ships ruling the Wutai Sea will soon be over. To that end, Sephiroth invites Queen Reina and the rest of the Royal Court (including Governor Takayama) to the hills outside Tule to "witness the power of this fully armed and operational Bombard battery." With the Queen and her advisers looking on, General Sephiroth orders the gunners to fire on a Ghost Ship that had carelessly sailed too close to shore and into Bombard range. The gun crews touched off their pieces and with a series of thundering explosions, the cannons hurled their 60 pound cast iron round shot in an arcing trajectory towards the passing Ghost ship.

As inaccurate as the guns are, most of the shots missed, but the ones that DID hit ripped the Ghost Ship half to shreds. Before the battery could get off another salvo, the Ghost Ship's undead captain, screeching curses at General Sephiroth and his infernal new weapons, changes course and sails out of range as fast as the damaged ship can go. Queen Reina, suitably impressed, aggrees with General Sephiroth and Governor Takayama's suggestion that we should add more Bombard batteries to the Royal Army. In the far North, the elite Velociraptor party devours the pack of Bandersnatches and reports back that they've spotted yet another Fiend Den.

In the Capitol province, the Treasure shipment from Jacole arrives in Tycoon Castle, and Domestic Minister Sarisa hires extra workers to hurry construction of the Alchemist's Shop in Surgate Castle.

Later in the year, traveling Gunpowder salesmen report that AVALANCHE has begun building the Five Ministries in 7th Heaven... That could be bad, since they could very well complete that wonder before we can.

A Settler party gathers at the Palace in Tycoon Castle and is sent to claim the last of the pre-selected city sites between Carwen and the Wutai sea, which will fill in the last uncontrolled gap in our territory as well as gaining us another source of Rubber. On top of that good news, the Dwarf Engineer's Guild in Tower of Worus finishes training another Dwarf Engineer Squad, which is sent to build a road to and settle on the coast near the Southwest Saltpeter deposits, which will give us a second source of Saltpeter.

Fisherman's Horizon finishes construction of its Church and begins training a Bombard battery. Surgate Castle finishes its Alchemist's Shop and the mayor plants a Myrrh Tree seedling, while the Treasure shipment from Istory arrives in Tycoon Castle. In the far North, our elite Velociraptor party wipes out the Fiend den they spotted earlier and loots 25 Gil worth of booty from the dungeon.

Later in the year, a Garden Velociraptor party wipes out the Galbadian Gladiator party in our territory near Galbadia Garden (appropriately enough). Governor Takayama wishes that our allies would keep their war in THEIR borders, but at least he doesn't have to worry about Galbadian troops romping around his province anymore.

Lord Mi'ihen's Crusaders in Tycoon Castle finishes training another band of Crusaders, which are sent off to defend the Dwarf Engineer Squad heading towards the second Saltpeter city site. Construction of the Church in Carwen is completed, so the city militia commander begins training a Ranger party. The influence of Lix expands again, ironically erasing the territory gap before our settler can arrive there, but we still have the Settlers move in so we can build a rubber plantation near the grove of Rubber trees in the vast Timber Forest.

Pirate's Cave finishes building its Alchemist's Shop and plants a Myrrh Tree seedling. Fisherman's Horizon finishes training a Bombard battery and begins building a University. Fisherman's Horizon now is a far cry from the small, impoverished, backwater village it was when we captured it from Esthar: It is now one of our military production and cultural centers, and all of the citizens now consider themselves to be loyal subjects of the Kingdom of Tycoon.

Lonka launches its Galley, which begins exploring along the Southern coast of the continent. Governor Takayama then has the town begin building a University... The province of West Galbadia is rapidly becoming a cultural and economic center for the Kingdom as well.

In the far North, our elite Velociraptor party discovers yet ANOTHER Fiend den... Some citizens wonder if the world will ever be truly rid of fiends, but Governor Takayama assures them that once all the nations found enough cities and their influence covers all the earth, the Fiends will have no safe place to gather, and they will be exterminated.

Later in the year, an Esthar Gladiator party near Shumi Village launches an unsuccessful attack on an AVALANCHE unit and is massacred in the process. Commander Squall Leonhart of Garden sends an envoy to Queen Reina asking for an alliance against Galbadia. She declines and instead, sends him some tomes containing the secrets of Natural Sciences in hopes that they can put the knowledge to good use.

In the far North, a Bandersnatch pack attacks our elite Velociraptor party and winds up becoming dinosaur food instead.

Queen Reina also hears from Myrrh Caravans that the Shinra Corporation has begun building Bugenhagen's Observatory... Looks like we're falling behind in science again.

1618 PA is a good year for the Kingdom of Tycoon:

The center of the Myrrh Trade is established in Tycoon Castle, making people across the kingdom happy as well as boosting trade in Tycoon Castle itself (Myrrh Trade is a GW available only to Neutral factions that makes 1 unhappy citizen content in ALL cities, increases trade in all trade producing tiles and requires that the faction have at least 5 Myrrh Trees in cities it controls to build).

As a matter of fact, the wealth and happiness obtained from our domination of the Myrrh Trade is so great that historians will remember this period of time as the Tycoon Kingdom's Golden Age. Queen Reina, not one to rest on her laurels, decides to see if she can beat AVALANCHE and the Shinra Corporation in the race to establish the Five Ministries (Five Ministries = Newton's University), and begins building it in the capitol. As if that wasn't enough for the citizens of Tycoon Castle to celebrate, the Rubber Plantation in Tycoon Castle also produces a Treasure shipment, which adds another 300 Gil to the Royal Treasury.

In the far North, the elite Velociraptor party continues its rampage by wiping out the most recently discovered fiend den.

In West Galbadia, Galbadia Garden completes its Church, and Governor Takayama has the citizens begin building a Library for the provincial captitol. Nectar finishes its Alchemist's Shop and Governor Takayama has the citizens begin building a Barracks.

In the meantime, Garden troops continue moving through West Galbadia to attack Galbadian territory to the South.

In 1621 PA, another Minotaur emerges from the Tomb of the Unknown King in Tycoon Castle and is sent off to patrol for Fiends in the North. Tower of Worus finishes buildign its University and starts training a Tarantula party. More importantly, however, the Mage Tower in Tower of Worus also finishes training the Kingdom's first ever Mage party (Mages have 20 attack, 4 def, 2 movement and a LETHAL bombardment of 16). General Sephiroth gives the Mage party special orders: They are to be the first unit assigned to General Bartz Klauser's Army... As soon as two more Mage parties are trained, they, likewise, will be assigned to what will be the most powerful army the world has ever seen!

Crescent's Myrrh Tree reaches maturity, so the town mayor begins building a Library. Carwen finishes training its Ranger party and starts construction of a University.

The settler finally reaches the last of the city sites marked out on this map:

Spoiler :

Shoat's Forest is founded and the citizens begin setting up a Rubber Plantation.

Domestic Minister Sarisa allocates money to hurry construction of the Harbor in Lix and to buy some of Sheula's Super-Duper Spee-D Grow plant food to hurry the growth of the Myrrh Tree in Surgate Castle.

In the far North, the elite Velociraptor party discovers yet ANOTHER Fiend den near where they destroyed the last one!! A pack of Bandersnatches in the den gets froggy and decides to jump our Velociraptors. They are handily dispatched by the experienced dinosaurs, and soon their friends in the Fiend den will meet the same fate.

Meanwhile, Garden troops contiue moving through our territory on the Galbadian Peninsula to attack Centra and Wilburn Hill.

So it is in the middle of a Golden Age it its history, that this chapter of the Kingdom of Tycoon's story comes to a close.
